I currently have a Megaflo system with the built in air gap. I've been offered a replacement or the alternative of a 36KW combi, controls and flue. The later is worth a significant sum of money even if I opt to replace the cylinder off my own back and then sell the boiler etc.

The question is, what cylinder should I purchase. I hear a lot of folks slating the Heatre Sadia megaflo and it's systemic issues with the air gap breaking down etc. I've been told that Gledhill are better. Any thoughts?

Who is offering you this combi replacement and why?

Many of us here are happy with Telford stainless unvented cylinders.

I have a UK Cylinder and it's done the job fine.

Have you posted about this somewhere else too, maybe a Facebook group? Sure I've read something similar recently, but I could also be going senile...

Yes on a DIY group but not exactly the same question, rather about whether a Combi would be a suitable replacement.

I would NOT trade a UVC for a combi.

If you have a defective UVC change it for a new, better make of UVC.  Who is offering this combi and why?

If Space not a problem, install one (UVC) with a external EV, if it is a problem install a OSO which does have a internal bubble but no daft baffle, you can always remove the dip tube and install a EV later.

Baffle broken down and very loud noise deduced to be internal to vessel.

Now not going for Combi but considered it for a while.

Don't come back complaining about the quirks and limitations of hot water from a Combi Vs an UVC.  You were warned.

Understood and this advice has been resounding which has changed my mind. I intend to stick with a UVC.

I've seen a good few posts  (re Gledhill LITE)) on various sites re noisy operation, in some, the cylinder was replaced, one batch were noisy apparently because the insulation hadn't been given enough time to cure properly on manufacture.

Sometimes if something is several hundreds cheaper than its equivalent rival, one has to ask how it is possible (when the nearest cheaper alternative is a market leading, reputable quality item anyways).

I need quality and reliability without question, so I stick to what I’ve been installing for 25+ years eg Telford.

Matters not one jot to me who uses what btw, just my experiences and advice, but I’ve been doing this for 30+ years and have kissed many frogs on the way…

Didn't Baxi? say they would replace the Megaflo FOC?.

They did but I don't want another Megaflo with a floating baffle that will only break down again in time. They offered a Combi, with Flue and Controls which I plan to sell to fund the cylinder swap.

Sorry - that just sounds like a load of work. They will not just give you a combi, they will give it to plumber to install. Even removing new, but now a second hand boiler isn't worth much. You will pay the plumber more than you will get for it.

Just take the UVC they offer and move on with your life.
