benben5555 Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Hi, Bit confused about the required depth of the hearth in front of the log burner. There are two diagrams in Part J and I'm not sure which one to follow. It will be in a 'fake' chimney breast which is 420mm deep. Any help much appreciated. Thanks
ProDave Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 It's quite clear, the hearth in all cases should extend at least 225mm in front of the stove for a closed appliance (which I assume this is) How deep it is overall depends on the dimensions of the stove and how close it can go to surrounding walls.
nod Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 I’ve just done ours and come out 400 from the skirtings 1

Its not clear to me unfortunately! What is the meaning of this bit where it says 500mm
nod Posted November 20, 2024 Posted November 20, 2024 Our previous hearth came out half the distance of this one Around 200 Which was suppled and installed by the stove shop and Hettas certified by them So the diagrams probably just a guide BC will only be interested in the cert
dpmiller Posted November 21, 2024 Posted November 21, 2024 the constructional hearth is not the finished visible surface. 1

bassanclan Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 Just to addthat even if you can get away with 225, you need the depth of the fully open door as a minimum, just for practicalities
JohnMo Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 Bottom line is you have to follow manufacturers instructions. If the manufacturer says 600mm, as an example, that's what you have to do. Manufacturer instructions trump building regs. Choose log burner you are going to install follow those instructions.
Iceverge Posted November 24, 2024 Posted November 24, 2024 Practically I wouldn't go below 500mm from the front of the stove in any case. Stuff can fall out and you don't want it destroying your nice floor.
