Backing boards for shower wet room.

Recommended Posts

I started another question on this but didn’t explain properly, I’ve asked that it be deleted.

wet room/ shower room

im looking for a board that can be tiled over in a wet room environment, but also 2/3 rds of the room will be painted, is there a board I can use as a tile backer, but then skim it for painting in the rest of the room.

it would be nice to board it without have to swap boards as I exit the shower area.

what’s your go to board on site @nod

cheers.

Ah I see. I just used moisture resistant plasterboard that was fully sealed at the joints and tanked. Saved any messing about with different boards.

That's all we used in each wet room (except ceiling) - but no tanking. Done the same in about 8 houses no issue. Where there are tiles we didn't tape at all.

Me too. The green gypsum board throughout, then tanked just the shower area up to head height, skimmed and painted the rest. Walls are all timber-frame, therefore tanking is essential I would have thought, at the very least around all corners.

Yes belts and braces with the tanking as paranoid about water damage and timber kit.

Fermacell powerpanel H20 is designed for this. But probably one of the most expensive solutions.

I used Marmox multiboard for shower area and then swapped to standard fermacell board for rest of the room, but all my walls are 2 layers anyway. Marmox do a nice pre-made niche for the shower area.
