wall hung toilets/frames

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Are wall hung toilets and frames a standard fit?  I'm looking at this frame https://www.grohe.co.uk/en_gb/rapid-sl-3-in-1-set-for-wc-0-82-m-installation-height-38773000.html#  and either of these toilets https://bernstein-badshop.com/toilets/wall-mounted-wc/a-3570-00000000000000000000000000006949    or    https://bernstein-badshop.com/toilets/wall-mounted-wc/a-13973  and I can't work out if they work together?

cheers bud. I assumed I had to line things up like the water inlet and outlet pipes??

Nope. They're fixed on the frames, all you get to dictate is where the top of the pan ends up. Currently fitting 5 Geberit frames all at 520-530mm off FFL aka "comfort height".

I only fit Geberit as I've never had a single complaint with them. Fit and forget.

The instructions for our Geberit were in 'no words' international code, so it was quite hard work to follow.

It was actually easy enough once understood, because, as Nick says, there weren't as many variables as expected.

I expect numbers 2 to 5 become very straight forward.

The frame has not budged. Unfortunately the same was not the case for the pan, where a very long key tightens a very flimsy looking plastic lock nut onto the hanging bolts. We perhaps got scared of overtightening and cracking it, and it slowly loosened.

Next time was ultra tight and has been fine since. It is one of those undignified plumbing jobs lying on your back, holding up a heavy object while doing intricate assembly.

Yup, they are a joy, aren't they?!? :)  FYI, I don't ever fit the acoustic gaskets, as they create a friction slip. Instead, I mask around the pan, a few mm before pinching it up for the last time, and pump the gap between the pan and the wall with clear CT1. Once fully tightened, and levelled, the excess CT1 gets removed with baby wipes until it is no longer visible. 48hrs to cure, then a cosmetic seal up with white microban based silicone and job done.

Long time ago I made a spreadsheet to work out if there was a standard spacing for the bolts, waste and flush pipe. The result was that most are a common spacing BUT I did find two or three that were different and wouldn't fit.

I'm not on my PC at the moment but will try and find it later.

So from my spreadsheet the standard dimensions for wall mounted WC appear to be..

Bolts to FFL: Typically 320-330mm

Bolts to waste: 100mm
Bolts to flush: 35mm

Seat width: 360mm
Wall to front edge: 525mm but varies from 515 to 545mm

You can adjust the bolt height to change the seat height but beware as some wall mounted pans extend down quite a ways. If you reduce the bolt height some WC might touch the floor!

Example of standard dimensions:

Example of non-standard dimensions:
