Today I Acquired...

So for my next unfinished project I picked up these bits tonight. Removed working. My mate was convinced by some snake oil salesman his kit needed "upgrading":

Along with 3 of these batteries:

Haven't got a Scooby Doo what it all is or what I can do with it but I've got all the manuals.

Best I get reading and learn. Then maybe some surplus panels...

Multiplus is a decent unit but more aimed at a boat as that can only really handle 12v charging so he must have had those batteries in parallel. It can also do multi loads depending on whether you’re on mains or off - useful as a UPS but again you can’t put that much power through it (not enough to run a house anyway)

So I could run the router off it and at least keep the kids happy in a power cut? ?

Someone check my maths please!
End of October I had 2000 litres /439 gallons.

Down to nom 454L / 100 gallons.

So in effect, in 4 months 1546L of heating oil used on CH & DHW.

That's £248 a month based on the previously paid 64.25p/L in October.

If it were at the new 92p/L it'd be £355.58 per month on heating oil.

That's sobering. I think I'm "in the lead" on here in that case! 😂

Tbh it's probably worse than that as the tank wasn't completely empty in October when I had the 2000L.

1480 kWh of electric used to heat my house for the last 12 months, at 21p per kWh that's £310  It was under £200 when we first moved in before prices went up and will be more like £400 next year.

But on the subject of "in the lead" I was called to the local gun club to work out why 1 months electricity was nearly £1000  That was caused by a 3kW panel heater that had been turned on with the thermostat down at it's minimum frost protection setting. Only the thermostat is broken so that was a 3kW heater running 24/7 using 72kWh per day or 2232kWh in a month.

There are going to be a LOT of people staring at their energy bills in disbelief.

Been a while. What did you do with all this kit? Very curious about the victron multiplus - like how much noise does it make when running?

When I find where I put it, connect it up etc I'll let you know! :)

Oh I hoard, it's like a disease. Probably why one of the kids is special.

Down to 1m2 of floor space in the double garage now.

What if it's the different strain? Anyway I don't want to go near germy people 😂

Stop worrying and re start living.

You don't have to get touchy feely with him.  Just get him to leave them outside and go and collect them.  Give them a wipe before you pick them up if it bothers you.
