Brick Pack mixing

Hi All,

To say I have been consumed by getting a decent brickmatch on ny house would be underselling it.  I have become so invested in getting it right I have gone to grat lengths to make it so.

Anyway I eventually with Vandersanden Hailsham Mix.  I needed 2500 for a side extension but in order to get a decent deal I got 3000 which included getting an extra pack for some work I am doing on the front of the house (porch extension).

I noticed as the brickies started to bump them out to work that they only seemed to initially open 2 packs...then as they noted some noticeable shade similarities and differences broke into the 3rd and 4th packs.  They left the 5th pack unopened.  I think they may have bot registered I would be using them for further work and figured it was easier to leave them as easier to send back wrapped and banded.

Anyway as the build has continued it became obvious to me that the brick mixing had not been brilliant...some areas where they go very one shade and other areas another.

As they have come towards being done (over 2 or 3 days) I noted that the front elevatiob to finish was left with probably the lightest shade and so dug into the 5th pack to see if there more variety and found rhe 5th pack to be predominantly if not almost entirely the darkest shade of the mix.  Meaning when we do come to do the porch etc its not going to match vwry nicely into existing beacuse it will be almost all the same shade.

I would like to get peoples views on what they think of whats been done.  Whether i have any cuase for complaint.  Should the 5th pack have been mixed in with the rest.

Anyway the crux of it is I invested a lot of time and money into getting it right and feel a little let down by the brickies.

Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately what is your option? demolish it? I had brilliant brickies but decided on a build change above bedroom windows and had to order another pack, yes the shade is a bit different and I notice it but no one else does ! I just get told I am OCD.

Joe90 yeah you are right...just annoying as had invested so much time into getting it right and feel less excited about it all than I did.  As you say the option would be demolish and start again...not an option.  Will just have to mute my own ocd.

Doubtful anyone else will ever notice. You are too close to the project so you see everything, don’t allow it to eat into you.

You are not wrong...far too close.. went brickhunting...sorted it all.  Just a bit gutted   I might just send the remains of the last pack back and them, if and when I need  any more I will go and get some and hope the pack is a good mix or ask them to mix some for me.

I second @Russell griffiths comment above.

Brick colour varies, bricks weather. Every build, large or small is an almost endless series of small compromises between plans and actual build.

You have bricks and you have brick layers.

Friday night - pub - relax, move on.

Good luck

Ian

Aren't your existing house bricks these... https://www.jewson.co.uk/p/lbc-heather-red-65mm-BRLBC062

All looks fine to my eye, and don't forget they will weather and darken over time anyway.

We look at Heather but it did not work.  These bricks are nuch better quality.  Just the last pack particularly was nearly all red and would not work.  Thankfully I know the sales manager for Nyes and she has said pick what you want...repack the pallet and send back what you don't want.
