That, and 2 of my 3 testicles.

How long have you had your numeracy problem or double vision?

Like the mighty redwood, just one of nature's aristocrats.

Just like Tony Hancock in the Blood Donor.

Had our first crop of runners the other night. Simply top and tailed, chopped with scissors and boiled. With some fish cakes. Very nice.

Somebody said you can eat them with butter?

I really want to try a runner bean chutney recipe.

Is that it the whole crop?

Now then, do you just top and tail or string the sides too?

No, they are just starting to get going.

I swallow them raw.

Snap an end off, and if it comes off clean, then no need to destring.

If a string comes with it then it needs to be pulled off.

If the end is bendy then past its best.

Probably worth a visit

I usually sneak in the back entrance.

I used to be a gynaecologist.

Then I got caught.

The beans are poor. Plenty of flower but not many turning to beans, so about 2 per day going into whatever veg mix we have. But courgettes good, and the cucumbers and tomatoes looking much livelier in the sensible temperatures.

What ails my runners?

These are some of the trenched ones? Some have green nodules on, I think there's an infestation in the nodules. Whatever "hatches" and leaves these damaged areas behind.

At the mo it's a minority but anxious to nip it in the bud.

Looks like a natural plant response to some sort of pest grazing damage. It's probably superficial and will scrape off when you wash them.  I'm going to say Capsids, but mainly 'cos I like the word. (Capsids...)

Whitefly somebody suggested. Going to get back spraying with peppermint oil.

Hmm... I'm going to stick with Capsids.  The Southern Green Shield bug is known to favour beans. Not sure how it feels about peppermint, but worth a try.

Neem oil seems to be the thing for shield bugs which we do have in the garden.

Wonder if it's any use to deter the lower hanging, bottom dwelling pocsteris bug that's plaguing this thread?
