overdrev
I want to build a sliding door cupboard, consisting of several doors sized 210 cm x 90 cm my question is : what material is best and what thickness ? I can chose between MDF, Chipboard, or Plywood The most important for me is a feeling of stability and quality feel - plus that the door does not distort over time. Cost is not so important factor. .michael
nod
I built five sets Some in pairs and some triple I purchased the sliding door feet from Slingers at Preston Between £40 and £75 per set Great quality
SteamyTea
Birch faced ply. But it is heavy compared to normal cheap ply. Is the area going to get wet at all?
Conor
Plywood is definitely the most rigid. I use structural softwood ply all the time for little bits of furniture. Door panels will be a lot more rigid and light if you use ply sheets bounded by a thicker pine frame. But that's a whole load more effort.
Russell griffiths
Have you thought of shaker style this way you can have a lighter weight centre panel and heavy gauge styles. All mdf.
ultramods
why do you not want to buy pre made doors?
overdrev
Thank you everyone Super appreciated 1. I cannot get premade near us, and I also want to coat with Fenix. I will be able to get this done advantageously by a friend here otherwise it would be prohibitive 2. my wife loves a plain surface, I certainly understand shaker would be easier and I have done these before 3. The area is a bedroom so it is dry. So it is really a question as to which is the most stable material for this use. @nod What material are these ? They look great. . Gone West
Many years ago a friend of mine made sliding wardrobe doors out of MDF and routed grooves in it to look like T&G.
Russell griffiths
35 minutes ago, PeterStarck said: Many years ago a friend of mine made sliding wardrobe doors out of MDF and routed grooves in it to look like T&G. You can buy mdf panels now with the grooves already routered. So you could laminate two bits of 12mm to make a 25mm thick door.
Oz07
I would think mdf more stable internally than ply
