Contemplating the minor challenge of our foul drainage piping : and came across this little video of how to ensure the correct angle of fall. It's brilliant Nice bit of gentle weewee extraction too.

Want to go straight to the technique? 2:58

Recon my laser spirit level set up correctly in the middle of the pipe will do fine.

But I betcha @Declan52 will tell me how to do the same more easily.

I'm a bit more old school and used a length of builders string between the 2 ends with a peg driven into the ground but using the same principle. Obviously a laser is much much fancier!!!

Depending how long your run is an offcut of 22mm timber taped to a 6ft level is handy for short bits. Likewise I use 10mm packers on an 800mm level for even shorter bits. When the bubble says level the gradient is good

I found tape a bit of 1" batten to one end of a 1M long spirit level was about right.  Set the pipe so the level reads level. simple.

EDIT @Oz07 beat me to it.

My index finger under the downhill end of my long spirit level gives a fairly consistent 1 in 80 gradient. A tip given to me by my nearly retired building advisor.

Yeah, but did you shine the laser down the pipe - like Sean in the video?

Afraid not, just used the digital readout.
