RIP Makita SDS

Today is a sad day, After over 5 years of dutiful service my Makita SDS has drilled its last hole :(

I have put this through some serious abuse over its time with me, its cored 6" holes through concrete, drilled probably tens of thousands of reasonable sized holes for me. broken down numerous walls, its been dropped in a river, its had no grease in its gearbox for months, and today I finally managed to burn out its brushes...... :(

Brushes.  BRUSHES.

Those are serviceable items. Just fit new brushes and it's good for another 5 years.

They don't seem to be on this model. To get at them I would need to take the entire casing off. Which I'm sure would end up in a terrible mess considering the amount of grease about the place.

Ill just let it die in one piece. It has done enough for me already.

My Lidl SDS wore through a set of brushes, had to open it up completely to change them, worth doing though cos it got me a good as new drill for £7!

Seriously, you should consider medical intervention, don't pull the plug...

im not doing it, its a company tool and I'm going to let it die peacefully

plus its only got about a foot of flex left now since i hacked off the rest of its lead with the back of my claw hammer. :$

Hardly any of my power tools have the original flex on them any more. They are always way too short even when new. Who wants a drill where the flex is not even long enough to reach to a standard height ceiling without lifting the extension lead it is plugged into off the ground?  So fitting a new, very much longer flex is a standard upgrade I have done to most tools.

This Parrot is not dead mearly sleeping.... however the saw that cut up the wood for the coffin is also now that small fraction nearer falling of its perch. Roll on brushless technologyO.o

That merely replaces cheap, (usually) easy to replace mechanical parts, for expensive, probably hard to get electronic parts to go wrong.

A but just remember what it must have been like for the man, was a man probably, who had been using a wheel brace when he was introduced to a pistol drill. Wonder if he thought ... That mealy replaces my elbow grease with electricity which is expensive and not that reliable. Tempus fugite ?

If you want to do this early Tuesday evening (set fire to things), I am going to be fairly close to you (well about 50 miles away).  We can video it then.

I suggested we get Hotpoint out to sort the drum bearings out but the wife's said no, she's quite happy sitting on it.....

Hans never mentioned making men redundant.

Being single, I find that I can just lean against it for the desired affect. :x
