A consultation from the Department of Housing, Communities and Local Government is coming to end on Friday.

 

If you agree that future homes should be built to produce significantly less CO2 than they do at present click the link and give your opinion.

AECB have uploaded a webinar discussing some of their objections to the Future Homes Plan.

Personally I skipped a lot of questions that weren't of interest.

 

Was sure to answer Q51 though

"Currently only a proportion of new dwellings are required to be airtightness tested. Do you agree with the proposal that all new dwellings should be airtightness tested?"

How different are those from current building regs?

I agree with the above 

Airtightness testing should be extended to All homes 

I think it’s 1 in 7 at the moment 

last year I worked on a large commercial building with offices in it 

We where informed not to leave for forty minutes as the air test was being carried out 

Sure enough three range rovers arrived with three massive fans 

We where still installing the fire proofing and had clear daylight along the roof line 

Later I overheard the site manager telling someone that the building had scored 2 and passed Tough score to achieve on such a massive building Even when fully sealed 

 

These tests are carried out by private companies and clearly tailored to the paying clients requirements 

 

Unfortunately in there present form these tests are meaningless

I was working on a 20 thousand square ft house, and the guy doing the test, did just one room, and issued a pass !!! When i was doing my daughters extension, BC wanted a sap test due to the amount of glass. The guy i used, asked me what result i wanted, and for £149 stuck the paperwork in the post to me. I bet a lot of them are just fiddled.
