Hello. 3 years ago we had 2 new upvc bay windows fitted by an established company in the London area. The ground floor window has sealant between the sill and the brickwork, the first floor window does not. We have damp on the first floor interior wall below the window but not on the ground floor wall below its bay window. There are large gaps between the first floor bay window sill and brickwork and 2 packing strips can be seen from street level on both sides of the bay window. (cant get photos to upload to site). I have several questions and will appreciate any thoughts. 1. Am I correct in thinking that this is how water is getting in? 2. Is it normal to seal gaps under a ground floor window sill but not a first floor sill? 3. Should I ask the installers to come back and seal the gaps? Regards DaveAF

Apologies for making a topic just for a single question, did a search but can't find a decent answer. Sealing PVC ductwork... taking a look at the data sheets for the proprietary duct sealant products (e.g. Soudaduct), they just appears to be decorators caulk, with a little more flex. Has anyone just used caulk instead? In a domestic set up I can't imagine the sealant is under very much pressure. I would also be taping. Alternatively I could use general purpose silicone, which will seal anything.

Hi, My plasterboarding guy has recommended I use something to seal by new boards prior to painting. He recommended gyproc drywall sealer - which seems to be discontinued in Ireland. He said if you don't seal them there is a risk the tapes/joints will show through- we aren't skimming. Anybody any recommendations for a product for sealing and or priming new boards? I will probably get it sprayed on prior to final two costs of paint. Thanks

Morning folks. For this week's DIY challenge I need to make my own flat roof. The roof bit is not too difficult. I have almost settled on a design. Its the box gutter that concerns me. The closest I can find for the design is this YT video. (0:08) See the black stuff that's between the layers of OSB - what is it? Ta!

Hi all, Needing a little advice: We've just gotten a new bath fitted today, and new tiles put in at two (narrow) ends of the bath. The bathroom fitter is returning tomorrow to apply grout and seal the bath. I get the feeling he's wanting to finish the job in the shortest amount of time (somewhat understandable), but I thought some time had to be given in between putting the grout and the sealant? Can anyone advise how long should the waiting time be? Many thanks.

Has anyone needed to re-seal their shipping container door with new rubber seals? If so, which adhesive did you use, please?
