  1. I know. I know I have Time will tell
  2. My telling them my projected load is the route to a formal application, it has been passed to the team to survey and price. Time will tell
  3. Application is only verbal. I asked for a supply, they told me to give them a kVA estimate which i did. They said there is not enough and then quantified it as i described.
  4. Update: It appears there is an issue with 1ph. There is not enough power in the sub station even for 23kVA so they expect me to pay for an upgraded sub station regardless. I was told this afternoon that my house would account for 25% of the total capacity of said sub station. Even though there are 33 existing houses sharing the current supply. I find this difficult to understand. I have asked them to price up anyway and see how bad this is going to get. I will also ask them what i could get without upgrading. Ground solar array on the Horizon?
  5. There is no concern for 1ph. But when surveyed i was told that its only about £150 more for a 3ph supply. So i said yep lets go for that then. Then i got a phone call saying 'no capacity in the village for 3ph you can pay for a new sub station.' Single phase it is then.
  6. Thanks Dave. I have done a lot of reading in the past 24 hours. This is theoretically a very difficult task, Duty cycles, power factor etc. And i phoned them again to say i had prepared a list of all anticipated appliances and hours per day use. But, in practice all i need to do is quote 24 KvA!!! Which, as you say is a 100 amp main fuse x 240 volts. Its easy when you know.
  7. 3ph is not relevant becuase they wanted me to pay for a new substation for the village becuase there is not enough capacity ! Is there a service that can provide this for a fee? In a similar but different vein i paid £30 for a water usage estimate last weekend that was immediately accepted by Affinity water. Hoping there is similar for electricity and guessed this community was the likely place to find out.
  8. Good afternoon Guys I have tried to get a price today from UK Power networks for a temp to perm electrical supply to site. They came back and asked me to provide an electricl load projection/estimate. Does anyone have any advice on who or where i can obtain this for a building that obviously does not yet exist please. keith
  9. Where have i said that i am in construction phase? You will notice that i also said i dont think i can change anything from a levels/height point of view. The question was whether wet pour is preferable/affordable and whether anyone knew if mandating either option was likely to be true. Yes it would.
  10. Having read loads on here and elsewhere i have always thought that the way to go is 50mm wet pour screed. Structural house plans are designed with 75mm screed and the old fashioned 'dry' type. House kit supplier is telling me this is mandated. Because the depth has ramifications elsewhere i dont think i can chnge the 75mm figure. To use wet pour will cost 50% more. To have a 'dry' concrete dragged pour will take a lot longer to do and may or may not cost more then the wet pour. One suggestion was to just add another 25mm of insulation and do the wet pour. Is anyone aware of the truth of this statement that 75mm is mandated please? ( i doubt it) keith
  11. There you go then, i replied to the earlier post before seeing this. At £6 delivered i would not even bother to make one. In fact i might buy one just to measure what the resistor value is. My curiousity is getting the better of me.
  12. I had a feeling thats what you would say. In which case, its a resistor across two of the pins on the plug. If its only two pins it will be across both of those. 20p to make your own, Max.
  13. My potential ASHP and UFH installation company are very wary of cooling. I had settled on a Vaillant 7kw unit. Installer agrees but has an additional suggestion of a veissman vitocal. When i asked about cooling he was very, well , cool about the idea. In that he thought it was a bad idea. UFH and a large 75mm slab would provide a nice mitigation of summer temperatures i thought.
  14. I have been advised to steet clear of using the ASHP in cooling mode due to a very fine line between useful cooling and hitting the dew point with resultant condensation. Anyone got real world experiences good or bad to share please?
  15. It looks like i seriously underestimated how long it would take to get a water and electrical connection. 3-4 months apparently. I was sure i had read elsewhere and some months ago that it was about 3-4 weeks. Anyway, it rules out a static on site as i need to move out of my current house in 6 weeks. Private rental it is.
  16. Thanks so much for the responses guys. We had considered a little shed just outside the caravan for the washing machine. Trying to squeeze one into the caravan near to the sink might be possible but not easy. We have 2 options, one van at 12' wide without Washing machine and a second nicer one at 14' with a washing machine but 50% more expensive and possibly too large to deliver to site up the country lanes. Glad the water and electric are not considered an issue. Poo pipe should be ok, there is a foul drain run and access cover very close.
  17. For those of you that have done this or are living in one now. # How do you manage the washing machine ? not all caravans have one installed. # If we go the Static on site route we will be about 100 feet from the electrical point and water standpipe. I wonder that this might be too far for some reason. # How close to the actual construction works is 'too dam close' ?
  18. me too. and i fully intend to game the system if i can and in any way i can. It really grips my **** when this kind of practice happens and they get annoyed when you try to protect your own interests.
  19. Thanks guys. We are looking at Caravantastic, partly becasue they have loads in one site.
  20. Its looking like we may go down the static caravan route, Affordable renting of a house near us is sketchy. What brands of caravan to stay away from or recommend. Why choose x over y brand? Does anyone have any insight
  21. Thanks, i was talking to them directly yesterday, and have been responded to by Jewsons who they forwarded my enquiry onto. Early last year Bespoke brick gave me a price directly. I have no idea how that would have been fulfilled in actuality but it was a better price.
  22. Fascinating insights and i wish i had known this sooner. I am literally just in the process of reviving enquiries i made early last year for bricks i need. Need about 10000 so not in the discount arena. There are figures that can be jiggled like off load at site, part load charges, 'ooh we forgot to add delivery' etc. With regard to this sentence, can you or anyone say who actually makes for thebespokebrickcompany in Kent. I still want to try to better my recent price for some of these.
