  1. What size of shipping container Conor?
  2. We are in NI and getting a quote from Fenbro in Poland for our windows and doors. This is what I was told.. Is the purchase for an individual need? Or is this a business purchase (VAT 0%)? This is new build so we are exempt from VAT in the UK. I hope it applies with you too. Unfortunately something like this doesn't apply here, we have to pay VAT regardless of whether this is new building or replacement. (with fitting it's 13.5%) Presumably if we order direct and use their fitters we can reclaim the 13.5% from HMRC?
  3. Just waiting on the quote from Fenbro. Here are the reviews, they sound positive. https://www.facebook.com/fenbropl/reviews/ Regarding service, we have the window doctor here and they say they will send the parts. Keeping an open mind but I agree warranty and service is important.
  4. Thanks, yes QS has done that one. Just waiting for it.
  5. Cheers, thats great. I have emailed https://fenbro.com/product/ideal-8000/#product-specifications but will also check out your one. Cheers and good luck. Also saw https://www.aikondistribution.com/blog/windows-from-poland-why-it-is-worth-importing-windows-and-doors-from-poland-69
  6. On my never ending quest to lower costs and with some crazy window quotes that conform to the architects 0.80W/m2K standard, someone suggested I should look to Poland. Since we are in NI I am hoping it should be deliverable. Has anyone any recommendations for Poland?
  7. I see it on ebay! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394296114540?var=0&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338749386&toolid=20006&customid=GB_12576_394296114540.143192034695~1870896597768-g_Cj0KCQiA54KfBhCKARIsAJzSrdqSVzST1EN7NNThriyhR-NyhkeFlYLHkLkH3F0Sz-xSeeKBcZOo6I0aAo9dEALw_wcB
  8. Ah good ideas thanks. We are doing 2 houses so it makes sense to have own it. Floors should be grand but will check. Cheers
  9. Obviously will do it the right way but thinking about costs.
  10. Looked again and yup 'the development shall be carried out in accordance with the stamped approved drawings'. Fair enough, the planners were decent to grant us permission and not looking to cheese them off.
  11. Nothing regarding materials other than it notes the materials are high quality on the design.
  12. Same issue here, I thought it was because we are in the back of beyond. Hadn't checked Catnic, not given up yet just a bit frustrated.
  13. A builder suggested we change from standing seam on the plans to tile if we want to save money. Still awaiting quotes re standing seam but in the even it was too high could we use tiles instead without having to go through planning?
  14. What is the fastest charge you can get from single phase? Like if you have a 100 amp supply then is a 22kw not running at 32 amps? Or is that just wishful thinking?
  15. Er is that true? A digger we had in knocked a stay on our land which led to a cable hanging from the pole, I had to get the electric fella out to tie it up again. I was thinking I might get a bill, so you think I won't?
  16. That looks great, really impressed and you were able to put solar panels on it too. I thought some non metal roofing wouldn't allow that.
  17. The plans say 'VMZINC ventilated roof standing seam roof system: VMZINC PLUS standing seam roofing on 18mm exterior grade WBP plywood screw fixed to 50 x 50mm treated s/w battens fixed in line with rafters to provide 50mm deep ventilation path on VMZINC membrane laid in accordance with the manufacturers instructions over rafters of prefabricated trusses. Zinc roofing system to be detailed by VMZINC & agreed with Architect prior to ordering of material' Also To underside of sloped and flat ceilings provide 15mm plasterboard with skim finish fixed to 35 x 50mm s/w battens to provide 50mm deep service cavity over Pro Clima Intello Plus airtight vapour control memebrane with all joints lapped min 150mm & sealed with Pro Clima Tescon Vana airtight adhesive tape on 50mm thick Xtratherm / Kingspan PIR rigid insulation board (t/c 0.022W/mk) fixed in accordance with the manufacturers instructions to underside of the rafters. Airtight barrier to be turned down wall and sealed per manufacturers recommendations. Completely fill between rafters with Isover Metac Roll 031 (t/c 0.031W/mk).
  18. The architect gave us a zinc roof but it's too darn expensive. What is the least expensive alternative? Also he said we can use other things as long as they don't effect the u value. The roofer suggested trocal, waiting on a price, has it a better or worse u value?
  19. Just printed that out - it's going on the fridge. Wise words.
  20. I was in signing off my own self employed books and ran it by accountant. It was a big no. Hence todays announcement of him getting a new career. Tbf he was struggling with a medical isssue too. Probably best for everyone concerned, he doubted he would be able to finish the build.
  21. Spoke to a neighbour who is an excellent builder but only works for big companies in the big smoke. He told me to employ each stage separately, a groundworker, get someone to do the blocks, roof etc and to use good people. Them spoke to relation who is a QS for a highly thought of development firm who totally agreed, he is giving me contacts including a site manager who is on a sabbatical from them for a few months. He suggested we employ him a day or 2 a week. I honestly think this is a blessing, it was just hard to see it earlier today.
  22. We had really only started and he had done a small retaining wall but he explained he felt it was too much physically and was changing career. Fair enough really, he apologised for leaving us in the lurch. Ah well I guess best to know early. Gut punch though.
