VAT on Polish imports?
CalvinHobbes replied to KTB's topic in Self Build VAT, Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL), S106 & Tax
We are in NI and getting a quote from Fenbro in Poland for our windows and doors. This is what I was told.. Is the purchase for an individual need? Or is this a business purchase (VAT 0%)? This is new build so we are exempt from VAT in the UK. I hope it applies with you too. Unfortunately something like this doesn't apply here, we have to pay VAT regardless of whether this is new building or replacement. (with fitting it's 13.5%) Presumably if we order direct and use their fitters we can reclaim the 13.5% from HMRC? -
Anyone bought windows from Poland?
CalvinHobbes replied to CalvinHobbes's topic in Windows & Glazing
Just waiting on the quote from Fenbro. Here are the reviews, they sound positive. https://www.facebook.com/fenbropl/reviews/ Regarding service, we have the window doctor here and they say they will send the parts. Keeping an open mind but I agree warranty and service is important. -

On my never ending quest to lower costs and with some crazy window quotes that conform to the architects 0.80W/m2K standard, someone suggested I should look to Poland. Since we are in NI I am hoping it should be deliverable. Has anyone any recommendations for Poland?

What is the fastest charge you can get from single phase? Like if you have a 100 amp supply then is a 22kw not running at 32 amps? Or is that just wishful thinking?

Builder asked could we employ him?
CalvinHobbes replied to CalvinHobbes's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
I was in signing off my own self employed books and ran it by accountant. It was a big no. Hence todays announcement of him getting a new career. Tbf he was struggling with a medical isssue too. Probably best for everyone concerned, he doubted he would be able to finish the build. -

Spoke to a neighbour who is an excellent builder but only works for big companies in the big smoke. He told me to employ each stage separately, a groundworker, get someone to do the blocks, roof etc and to use good people. Them spoke to relation who is a QS for a highly thought of development firm who totally agreed, he is giving me contacts including a site manager who is on a sabbatical from them for a few months. He suggested we employ him a day or 2 a week. I honestly think this is a blessing, it was just hard to see it earlier today. -
We had really only started and he had done a small retaining wall but he explained he felt it was too much physically and was changing career. Fair enough really, he apologised for leaving us in the lurch. Ah well I guess best to know early. Gut punch though.
