Hi All We will be installing a log burner at some point (few years down the line at least) but have got a chimney built in preparation etc.. Please see attached photos of it currently As this will not be used for a while what is the best way to 'Seal' just above the visible chimney line in regards to heat insulation and air tightness Also what is best way to finish inside the recess in regards to plasterboard/plastering... is special board required etc.. I amp planning to use air tight paint to seal the block work (have a bit left over) Basically any information that will be useful when completing this section would be very much appreciated Many Thanks

Good Morning I have had to drill a few holes through my external walls to allow for installation of my outside lights I will be using my airtight foam and some tape to make it as air tight as possible internally What would be the best thing to use to seal in from the external side before I mount the light fitting? Could i use air tight foam or would clear silicone be better? I know this is a basic question but just want to make sure its done correctly Many Thanks

Yes most of the walls are like this, just one wall unfortunately, annoyed because i would of sorted this before if I was there to check it!

The back boxes are currently 35mm so I could try and change them for 25mm

They have already skimmed this wall, and the boxes are still protruding by 3/4mm

Hi all I have been away all weekend and the plasterboarders/plasterers did a weekend for me, couple of the walls were dotted/dabbed by them. There is metal boxes on the wall but for whatever reason they have pushed the boards to far back and skimmed the walls but the front of my back boxes still stick out 3/4mm!! Has anybody got any ideas on how to sort this? One option was to trim the front of the boxes with a multi-tool or grinder and then easi-fill when needed. Far from ideal but I am not sure what else I can do I meant to take a photo to explain better, I will add one tonight Any advice/ideas welcome!

We will be start applying our mist coat to some rooms in the next couple of weeks and I just wondered if anyone could recommend some good paint rollers and handles/arms etc.. i have tried a few cheap ones in the past and they haven’t been very good. we have a full house to do so we don’t mind investing in some decent stuff to make our life that little bit easier! p.s. would you give newly plastered walls a light sand with 120 grit before mist coating or not? The majority of our bedrooms have been plastered this week i was just wondered what people thought was the best order to do things in regards to skirting/architrave and painting etc.. is it best to at least mist coat first? Also what is the best way to fix it? Sticks like sh*t and nail gun? Just double checking you caulk it all up before painting? sorry for the basic questions but want to make sure I get it right literally any advice/information would be very much appreciated

Thank you @jfb I’ll trim my outlets about 3mm below plasterboard level. Then once they have skimmed I’ll push the grey bit in ready to install cowl

This is the only thing I can find I think I might have to give the BC office a call to clarify

Good Morning I have first fixed all my MVHR and now have majority of ceilings boarded with the MVHR outlets sticking through. My question is when is the best time to trim them level? After skimming? I have 2 parts left ( see attached pics) and to be honest I’m not sure when/how to install them. If anyone could advise it would be greatly appreciated

On the topic of first first wiring, I will be clipping my data cables & twin and earth to the block work All the walls will be dot and dabbed, do people fix cable capping over the cables? pvc or metal? I have fitted plenty of capping in the past and found it painful, what have people found the best way to secure it? Any advice and information would be very helpful

Hi all I am just planning my cable routes and came onto smoke/heat detectors I require a heat detector in the kitchen, smoke detector in the hallway and one on the landing. In our previous house we had nest smoke alarms which we really like as we like the comfort of having notifications (hopefully none). I thought they might do a heat detector too but no such look! Could anyone recommend a smart smoke alarm and heat detector system that can be linked to our phones to send notifications etc? any recommendations greatly appreciated

Hi All A very random question, I have started my first fix wiring. On my stud walls I have plasterboarded one side to allow me to wire, on the walls that haven't been boarded yet I need to get the cables in rough position. What is the best way to fix them to the inside of the stud wall so I can reach them when I cut my back box hole out? I should be ok for the sockets but switches/thermostats I need to fix the cables higher up the wall I know its a daft question but this will help me alot with my wiring I've attached a picture of my stud Many Thanks

Unfortunately I think I have left it too late to do that, my screed has been poured a couple of months ago. would I need to hire a floor scarifier?
