  1. Any tips on how to do a wide silicone bead?
  2. Apologies for another post asking for help but at the minute I seem to have issues all the time that need addressing. I have a large oak glazed front that is in between 2 walls and I have only just think that it needs to be sealed from the oak the wall, either rendered or brick. I think this maybe the source of some dampness internally on the oak. I have used airtight foam and tape on the inside from oak to block but as you can see there is a large gap from the wood to the wall, at least 10mm in some places. what is the best way to ensure a good watertight seal? Spray in some air tight foam and then a thick clear sealant bead? as always any advice or ideas very much appreciated
  3. Thank you @S2D2 and @Redbeard I will be going with the Loft Legs XL Sorry for more daft questions, do you glue the boards together? And I'm guessing you can screw into the loft legs to fix the boards done Would it best to use the larger sheets? 18mm chipboard - 2400mm x 600mm I have around 66m2 to do (see attached picture)
  4. I will have a lot of rows, suppose I can just circular saw holes to access if need be. The most popular legs I’ve seen are only 175mm…would they be ok for 200mm insulation?
  5. https://www.dolle-uk.co.uk/shop/loft-ladders-clickfix-76g Still debating just to go for this, I read on another BH post (couple of years ago) that it was tested for air tightness up to class 4)
  6. Good Evening, as you can probably tell by my latest posts that I am working in the loft! My next dilemma is the loft boarding, I have 8 x 2” (200x47mm) @ 600mm centres ceiling joists upstairs and I am planning to install 200mm isover spacesaver in between the joists and then the same ran over the top perpendicular. What would be the best way to board the loft when insulating this way? Legs? Never used them before but I just feel they maybe be quite flimsy. Is there a way to firm them up at all? The only thing I am not too keen on is tongue and groove floorboards as they are pain to get access beneath if needs be. But if that’s the best option then so be it. Many Thanks
  7. This looks good and even does 1200x700 opening size which is perfect I can only find it on Irish websites, has anybody find it on a uk based website?
  8. I haven't powered up my MHVR up at all yet but I am open to anything that will help with this issue etc I haven't got any control vents on the outlets yet either, can I just power up the MVHR and let it run? Would it be best to remove the filters too? Any advice on this very much appreciated Many Thanks
  9. I have looked into this further and realise the only airtight one i can find anywhere near that size is the Wellhofer one and thats 1200 x 600 I decided on the loft hatch size without considering air tightness (naively) and went for the largest size to allow me to get my MHVR in and out the loft if required I might have to install the one I originally based it on and see if i can improve air tightness on the seal retrospectively Many Thanks
  10. Hi All My next job is to insulate my loft and install a loft hatch My opening is 1200 x 700 and was planning to install this loft hatch: https://www.dolle-uk.co.uk/shop/loft-ladders-clickfix-76g I am aiming for my house to be as air tight as possible and this loft hatch has good reviews but no mention of air tightness Would people recommend me install an airtight loft hatch as well? Could anyone please recommend an air tight loft hatch? Many Thanks
  11. Next weekend I’ll be installing the loft insulation
  12. Everything was starting to feel a little damp that’s all. I thought it might benefit with a bit of heat in the house
  13. I have bought 2 dehumidifiers to stick upstairs. As downstairs seems ok, I have no loft insulation though at the minute which doesn’t help either as it’s cold upstairs especially this week! would turning my MVHR on help at all?
  14. OK thanks @Conor When you say open the windows, is it ok to leave on the latch so its only open slightly? Many Thanks
  15. Good Afternoon I am currently at the stage where 95% is plastered and 70% plastered and I have finally got the ASHP up and running and got some heat in the house Saturday morning When I arrived at the house Sunday there was quite a lot of internal condensation on all the windows, enough to run down onto the window boards in most cases. What is causing this and is there anything I can do to help with this at all!? and is this normal...got me quite worried. Is it just things that are damp drying out? I have MVHR installed (but not on/commissioned yet) so have tried to make the house as air tight as possible, still have a couple of holes to address Any advice at all on this Thanks in advance
  16. Yes after reading some reviews and the link above I will be using dulux trade paints, with a young family I think dulux diamond matt would be a good choice for all the walls Many Thanks
  17. Thank you for the link @Kelvin, I found it very useful!
  18. Good Morning All I have finally got to the stage where I am considering paint! (been a long road so far to get here) I have bought some leyland trade matt white emulsion for mist coating but we also need to buy the emulsion for walls and ceilings. The mrs like some colours from Farrow & Ball, Lick and Coat, it was recommended me to take these colours to Valspar (B&Q) and they will mix it for me. My question is what is the quality of valspar paint like? Would people recommend it? I have looked at the website and seems 'premium walls & ceilings' is their 'best' emulsion Any advice/recommendations greatly appreciated on this topic Kind Regards
  19. Hi All I am needing to get some heat in my house, things aren't drying as they should which is causing a few issues All my heating system/tanks/UFh etc is ready to go I just need to connect my ASHP up to it, however I need to render behind it first but the rendered keeps letting me down/fobbing me off and with the bad weather coming up for the next couple of weeks there is no sign of it being done yet What are the best options to get some heat in my house? I am not living there but there most nights. Is it just case of electric heaters? Many Thanks
  20. Hi All I have 2 steel beams in my house, a smaller one that is in the middle of my house and one large one over my bi folds. The one is the middle of my house I was just going to plasterboard the ceiling where the beam is in fire line plasterboard is this adequate? The large one over my bifold, I was planning the plasterboard that wall in 38mm insulated PB. Would it be ok to just paint my RSJ in intumescent paint and board over it? Could any recommend any paint? Is this adequate? Any other ways to this would be very much appreciated Many Thanks
  21. Hi All The mrs has her heart set on some coving in our new kitchen. We ordered a sample and it came today, I was expecting some lightweight gypsum coving which I’ve used in the past! The coving is hard plaster coving and heavy! What is the best way to cut/fix/install this type of coving? I would like to get some mechanical fixings in but it doesn’t seem straightforward Literally any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!
  22. Thanks for the reply, I think I will link out the SL and rely on the built in humidity sensor to control it Also the wiring controller will be hidden around a corner in the kitchen so i can use that to boost when cooking as you mentioned Many Thanks
  23. I have installed a vent axia sentinel kinetic high flow MVHR, I have installed a fused spur next to the unit and also ran the cable in for the controller (copies for units controller on the front) I have just been look at the installation instructions and I naively thought there wouldn't as many control options as there is! Do i need a switch live or do i just link it out from the live so it runs constantly? Will the built in humidity control the speed when required? Is there any other form of control that people recommend? Any advice on this would be great! Thanks again all
