Ceiling Speakers Recommendations
richo106 replied to richo106's topic in Networks, AV, Security & Automation
Just looked into this and even gave Lithe a call (very helpful) The bluetooth versions of these look absolutely perfect for me! Thanks @crispy_wafer -
Hi All We are wanting to have some in ceiling speakers in a couple of our rooms ( kitchen/diner & snug room) I would prefer wired speakers (1st fixing now) but i have never installed speakers before. Do you wire the speakers individually back to an amp and then connect to the amp via bluetooth on your phone? Also can these be linked to play whatever alexa does? Apologies for the daft questions, could anyone recommend any speakers/ setups that I could look at? Many Thanks

Kitchen Downlights Layout Help
richo106 replied to richo106's topic in Electrics - Kitchen & Bathroom
Thanks all for the comments so far, certainly gave us food for thought! we like the led strip idea but not sure it would fit as we are going quite traditional with our house/kitchen style I have attached what the rough layout would be, the lightest blue is worktop and the darker blue full height units. Red is the dining table (not sure of shape or size etc yet) we are planning to have a L shape sofa in the TV area in green In the kitchen side we are planning to have wall lights (sconces) and plinth lighting to create ambient lighting in the area We are not toying with the idea of having a pandant (s) over the dining table area, we were originally put of this as not sure on what table we would be having, but I feel it would be a big open ceiling with no pendant breaking it up potentially. If people were to add spots to this plan where would they put, I am planning to wire this next week so nothing like leaving it last minute! Thanks again for all the comments -
Kitchen Downlights Layout Help

Hi all I am now first fixing my kitchen and trying to work out position/number of downlights needed in my kitchen/diner area I have done a layout on the pc as currently on holiday, I have marked on the drawings my rough spacing (joist position depending) The blue lines split up the room with the sofa and table being further to the left within the blue lines I don't want to install too many but on the other hand want to be bright enough, all 3 zones will be switched separately and also a separate kitchen plinth lighting/wall lighting circuit Any comments at all on the downlights would be appreciated Many Thanks

Thinking of a floor standing one, but a tall one to suit the opening. Am I ok to dot and dab normal plasterboard on the inside of the breast and then skim? I am guessing I am not so any advice on this would be great Many Thanks
-
I honestly think we won't ever bother doing it but i just wanted to be a little prepared if we were to, can i just use normal plasterboard and plaster or do i need to use cement board and plaster? Regarding the insulation, i have attached a couple of pictures One is a cavity in my chimney, its 100mm cavity with 90mm thermclass The other picture is my original idea in regards to insulating it 'temporarily' I was going to stick a bit 150mm PIR in and Air tight tape the edges to the block
-
Yes agree with comment regarding that chimney's are not ideal but we wanted to keep a balance between modern and traditional. It will be taking air from external when installed (through the back) I have attached a picture of the back of the house, there is no liner currently installed just a space for it to go. As you can tell I have never done anything like this before, the air tightness concept was something i decided on after the build had started so trying to make it the best it can be for my build.

Hi All We will be installing a log burner at some point (few years down the line at least) but have got a chimney built in preparation etc.. Please see attached photos of it currently As this will not be used for a while what is the best way to 'Seal' just above the visible chimney line in regards to heat insulation and air tightness Also what is best way to finish inside the recess in regards to plasterboard/plastering... is special board required etc.. I amp planning to use air tight paint to seal the block work (have a bit left over) Basically any information that will be useful when completing this section would be very much appreciated Many Thanks

Good Morning I have had to drill a few holes through my external walls to allow for installation of my outside lights I will be using my airtight foam and some tape to make it as air tight as possible internally What would be the best thing to use to seal in from the external side before I mount the light fitting? Could i use air tight foam or would clear silicone be better? I know this is a basic question but just want to make sure its done correctly Many Thanks

Good Afternoon I am just getting things sorted for my bathroom install company, I am planning to have a tiled in niche in the shower (around 800mm long) Could anyone recommend a LED strip and house that would be suitable? I have had a look on the internet and found something like this... https://arc-led.co.uk/profiles/1714-arc-tip-2-metre-flush-tile-in-led-profile-silver.html?gad=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIy8b6vea7gQMVRkVBAh3RaAtlEAQYCCABEgJxZvD_BwE Another note, I have always used 4000K light colour in bathrooms, but we want this shower niche and backlit mirror to provide 'mood/ambient lighting' but would 3000K be better do people think? But I don't like mixing light colours in the same room
-
Yes most of the walls are like this, just one wall unfortunately, annoyed because i would of sorted this before if I was there to check it!
-
The back boxes are currently 35mm so I could try and change them for 25mm
-
They have already skimmed this wall, and the boxes are still protruding by 3/4mm
-
Hi all I have been away all weekend and the plasterboarders/plasterers did a weekend for me, couple of the walls were dotted/dabbed by them. There is metal boxes on the wall but for whatever reason they have pushed the boards to far back and skimmed the walls but the front of my back boxes still stick out 3/4mm!! Has anybody got any ideas on how to sort this? One option was to trim the front of the boxes with a multi-tool or grinder and then easi-fill when needed. Far from ideal but I am not sure what else I can do I meant to take a photo to explain better, I will add one tonight Any advice/ideas welcome!

I was actually just looking at those! was also looking at single or double arms for the paint roller https://www.toolstation.com/hamilton-for-the-trade-4-piece-roller-set/p66743?store=EF&utm_source=googleshopping&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=googleshoppingfeed&mkwid=_dm&pcrid=&pkw=&pmt=&gbraid=0AAAAAD-vLcXGleCR_LSRyZ083-yp2ZJSc&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItqHl7_WRgQMVU-LtCh2aiwWPEAQYAiABEgILifD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

We will be start applying our mist coat to some rooms in the next couple of weeks and I just wondered if anyone could recommend some good paint rollers and handles/arms etc.. i have tried a few cheap ones in the past and they haven’t been very good. we have a full house to do so we don’t mind investing in some decent stuff to make our life that little bit easier! p.s. would you give newly plastered walls a light sand with 120 grit before mist coating or not? Many Thanks
-
The majority of our bedrooms have been plastered this week i was just wondered what people thought was the best order to do things in regards to skirting/architrave and painting etc.. is it best to at least mist coat first? Also what is the best way to fix it? Sticks like sh*t and nail gun? Just double checking you caulk it all up before painting? sorry for the basic questions but want to make sure I get it right literally any advice/information would be very much appreciated

MVHR 2nd Fix
richo106 replied to richo106's topic in Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)
Thank you @jfb I’ll trim my outlets about 3mm below plasterboard level. Then once they have skimmed I’ll push the grey bit in ready to install cowl -
This is the only thing I can find I think I might have to give the BC office a call to clarify
-
Good Morning I have first fixed all my MVHR and now have majority of ceilings boarded with the MVHR outlets sticking through. My question is when is the best time to trim them level? After skimming? I have 2 parts left ( see attached pics) and to be honest I’m not sure when/how to install them. If anyone could advise it would be greatly appreciated

Hi All I just wondered if there is any regulations regarding doors at the top of the stairs etc.. BC have had my plans but not mentioned anything. I have messaged my BC officer last week but no reply and no delivering. Please see attached pictures, I just wondered if anyone could advise on here before I fix the frame in properly. Many Thanks
