  1. oh, i think my ceiling might a lath then??? this image is the ceiling in the upstairs bedroom. so one can only assume the downstairs ceiling is made the same way???
  2. i see. i can ask if the original plasterer can put in a temporary board with screws, when he comes to quote. good idea! thank you
  3. It cannot be helped! I'm still beating myself up...a few months ago, I hired a decorator who claimed to have 15 years experience to decorate my stairway, hall and landing...I could of done a better job myself! This guy CUT bubbles out of my wallpaper. Had hoped I didn't see them and only did something about it when I asked...but it never crossed my mind that he would CUT freaking bubbles out with a stanley knife. or patch up his work like a jigsaw puzzle. I decorated 3 bedrooms and I didn't patch or cut bubbles out or have bubbles, I only hired him because I cannot do stairway/landing and hallways (did it once but I was much younger!!)
  4. oh my I have asked him to remove. I contacted my original plasterer who did the bedrooms but he is not available until March 2022 - if you're wondering why i didn't get this guy in before. I tried and it was a 6 month wait, but i might as well of waited as November would of been his go date too! But by the time I would of booked him, it wouldn't of been November, so hence waited for four months for the one who turned up today. Anyway, the original plasterer was so angry for me! but i guess my question is, iff the PB is taken down, will it be OK until March 2022? He cannot come in any sooner and I really don't want to chance it on anyone else. My luck is I choose another cowboy!
  5. thank you! may I know if I should ask him (trust that he will remove it safely and not cause unnecessary damage or just be down right vindictive), or is it best for me to remove myself, if so, how best to remove and will it be difficult? touching the boards seems like it is firmly stuck, but I know this will not last. I just don't want to cause more damage and have to pay more to fix this when it comes off!
  6. i'm not sure what you mean by a lath and plaster ceiling
  7. thank you all for your advice, I very much appreciate it. I just feel so down at the moment with the entire situation. he is a nice chap but will he stay nice after all is said and done?I do not know. I am very anxious about how he will react and get abusive. I'm female so I think this increases chances of happening as I've read so many stories about this happening!
  8. i've asked him to come back and remove. and I just waiting for him to give me grief...:(, threaten or what not as I have heard horror stories...
  9. here is the side of the wall where it meets the ceiling
  10. ? sorry, i'm not up to date on the lingo?
  11. omg it is not normal is it?
  12. hi, there is a room above this ceiling, but he cannot go to that room to find the joists for the below as it has been newly carpeted. I am having the entire room skimmed. I had intentions for another job (skimmed, but probably skipping that entirely!).
  13. i am not sure he can find the joists from the floor above as that has been carpeted down (new). Here are some photos.
  14. he said he is not going to add screws, if i insist on it, how will he find the joists?as i don't want him to randomly screw into the ceiling? The plasterboard has been dot dabbed in small pieces, not the large sheets. I'm not sure I fully understand what you are trying to say in your last paragraph. The intention was always for him to board and skim the ceiling. just didn't know he was just going to dot dab!
  15. so, has this guy taken an absolute short cut with this? this was my worry too, but wasn't sure if i was just being paraniod. He is just sticking it on the current ceiling and so that weight is now on that and if the ceiling was in perfect condition, i wouldn't need it plasterboarded right, it's like sticking a bandage on a bandage and that new bandage will only tear off the old one...
  16. dot dabbed
  17. it won't be screwed in...
  18. hmm, how peculiar. I will ask if he will screw in as well or just leave it dot dabbed (which is to be skimmed).
  19. yes! that is the word/s - i googled it:)
  20. hi, it is going on the current ceiling
  21. Hi All, Please can someone tell me if it is normal to put plasterboard on a ceiling by putting blobs of adhesive on it (not sure exactly what it is called), and just sticking it on the ceiling? I am using a new plasterer and it is on the downstairs room. I previously had another plasterer plasterboard the room upstairs, below the attic, and while I did not see him apply blobs of adhesive, it is not the say he didn't - but he screwed the plasterboard into the joists of the frames above. I am assuming there are also joists on the ceiling downstairs, but I am not a professional, so I don't know if this is an alternative way to put the plasterboard on the ceiling. Please kindly offer up some advice.
  22. Hi All, Is it best to hire a plumber or a specialist bathroom renovator to install a entire new suite - rip out and install of a toilet too (which isn't in the current bathroom at the moment). I am reading conflicting opinions, some say plumber some say bathroom specialists/rennovator. I'm not having much luck at all with tradespeople at the moment. Having been let down by a bathroom installer way back in the Summer, now a couple of people I have contacted have just basically told me they will not entertain me as they will only do local jobs (I'm only 12 miles away in the next town). I wish I would be in a position to turn away business if I had my own business, I tell you! Or have the luxury to say I will not travel 12 miles to get to work. The installer who was contracted for the job said I needed to excavate an internal soil pipe (for the downstairs toilet), which would then be connected to the new toilet upstairs (the current toilet is directly below the bathroom). I am not sure if he was giving me the correct advice, as I had another guy who advised I didn't need to do that, that there were ways around it. But he is also the same person who suggested I use cladding instead of taking my walls back to brick and then doing the necessary and tiling - saying it would (cladding) would last me about 5 years. I think this second guy was more concerned about saving me money, but I didn't say that to him and to me, I feel he is cutting corners by saying he wants to save me money by using cladding - but I told him I want my new bathroom to last longer than 5 years. Ridiculous to think I pay a few thousand for a bathroom and it lasts only a few years. I am not made of money, but i rather it be done right and last me over 10 years at least. What does everyone thing of the cladding options for the walls? Any advice is appreciated. I have asked local forums, and they have suggested some plumbers over bathroom rennovator as well.
  23. it is a house made of stone, so it cannot take cavity wall insulation so I am told (too thick?). i am going to use wallrock on the external facing wall though
  24. Hi All, So hopefully, the plasterer is coming to plaster the walls and ceiling this month - and I just wanted to ask something. Is it normal to then line and paint the newly plastered walls after it has dried, or do you go ahead and just paint it? I only ask because I'm more about trying to keep the heat in the house and the lining paper would offer a bit more than just leaving it and painting on it? or are my beliefs on this absolutely wrong? I get that some people just plaster so they don't have to line, or plaster and just paint to save time - I'm not concerned about saving time, I just want to get it done right. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
  25. we run water every day - as there is always a smell of water treatment each day, so running the water on daily basis already - smell is still there
