  1. thank u! What rate of sand paper would you suggest please?
  2. thank you! I actually have a tin with the primer and undercoat in it, and a separate top coat. I'll do what you suggest thank you. Do I use the same procedure if I am painting over woodwork with paint already on it? A decorator who came in actually advised that I shouldn't have taken off the paint (on the woodwork I had already taken paint off) and said that I should paint over, sand, paint over sand to build up a layer. Can I do this on the painted woodwork as above or is it best to take it all off?
  3. Hi All, I would appreciate any tips on how to paint woodwork - namely the stairway banisters, the spindle area and doors and door frames. I am painting it with the undercoat, and it is left unsightly brush marks. Is there a method to use to avoid these? I'm trying to get it as nice as I can for my mum...but I am crap at painting and general DIY. We were let down from a tradesperson so hence, why I am having to do this myself Any tips would be appreciated.
  4. Hi All, Has anyone used or have any experience with Red Label insulation under liner paper? it is made up of polystyrene and you stick it on your walls to help keep in heat. I am in the process of removing it, and whilst it is relatively easy (albiet, it is leaving behind some bobble marks on the wall), the wall seems to either have paste or paint on it, and I cannot remove it i.e. it is not peelable. I cannot remember if it was painted before or whether it is the paste for the red label that is all dried out. It isn't peeling like the paint in one of my other rooms, and I am not sure if I can now just apply the new insulation liner on this unmovable paste - I am not sure if it will be securely attached on the wall for example. I had initially peeled all the peeling paint in the other room because I thought that just lining it, the paper would just stick to the peeling paint versus the actual wall, so I painstakingly peeled off as much paint as I could. In in the room with the red label, I scrap the wall and cannot get a patch to peel and it seems like the paint/paste residue is firmly on the wall - so is this OK to paste over with the new insulation paper? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
  5. thank u very much!! I just googled and it's a pack of 10, typical, I only need 2 ha ha
  6. He wouldn't come back just to bead is what I mean. He hasn't even come back with a quote to replaster a ceiling / just finished the job and left and didn't answer my follow up message about an additional paying job. I think not likely he will respond which is a shame because he is a good plasterer.
  7. thank you! do you know what the beading is actually called? because when i searched on the orange shop for costs, all I got was a bunch of wooden corner beads for floors
  8. Hi All, Is it possible for a complete novice to stick on some beading on a corner of a wall - like with some easifill or filler or even gorilla glue?! I had the plasterer in already and he beaded up all but two corners - which I didn't notice should be done to be honest - so hadn't actually asked him to do. I am thinking he will not come back just to that if I paid him. So just looking at some workable alternatives that I could perhaps do myself? Thanks in advance.
  9. thanks for the tip! but that would mean taking off the knob and all wouldn't it? I don't think it is easy to remove. Not sure if it is cast iron to be honest? p.s. loving your quote, 'my pressures' hahahha. It made me laugh!
  10. Hi All, Does anyone know that the difference is between these two products or do they essentially do exactly the same? I am looking to fill in any cracks and hair line fractures in the walls and holes before I seal it to then be lined then paper/painted. Any advice would be appreciated.
  11. Hello, Can anyone help? I am painfully stripping all the paint off some walls and doors in my house at the moment. I found a paste to apply the wood which has stripped to varying degrees of success. I applied some to the door knob and lock - it came off fine for one door but it was more stubborn on one door. I just tried a hot gun but it does not seem to remove the last stubborn parts. Does anyone have any ideas to get this off? Or if actually, it is possible to remove this type of lock and replace it with a more modern handle with relative ease. I have included a photo of the connecting part on the door frame. Thanks in advance.
  12. is Grohe the way to go for bathroom suites?
  13. thanks! the fitter actually suggested I get my suite from victorian plumbing lol I'll keep on looking but it might be I have more time to look now as my fitter has suddenly ghosted me for no reason. sigh. where are all the reliable tradespeople??
  14. @Temp hi temp, do you have any advice on this please?
  15. yes! this is what the man told me what happend. that the paint smelled of cat pee!! I recently used it to paint my ceilings and it doesn't smell of cat pee, so hopefully, Valspar sorted it out by adding back that addictive!!! Or I guess I will see soon in the summer months ha ha!!
  16. I managed to find the paperwork - does this also help with your initial diagnosis?
  17. Hey all, Does anyone know if one can have a whirlpool bath tub in a room that has no plug sockets? The fitter says he will have to connect to the nearest socket. He hasn't explained exactly how when I said that the nearest socket was either in the landing or the room next door. Anyone have any ideas please?
  18. Thanks very much for your advice. I appreciate it. I think perhaps the digital ones are a tad bit fancy for me ha ha!
  19. thanks very much for your advice. I appreciate it! I will be looking for a mira shower as this is the brand the fitter recommended. Are they really good? as I am now conscious about this, as when I went into the orange shop, I'd never heard of Valspar and they said that was the best, hence the bit central display. Then when I spoke to someone else about how to put up my insulated liner, they paused when I mentioned Valspar and proceeded to tell me it has been on TV for standards (albeit,, a few years ago).
  20. thank you very much!! Does a combi boiler mean I can choose any of the mentioned shower types? edit: to get hot water, we had to switch on a switch and wait about 15 mins for hot water.
  21. We previously had an old style cylinder that we would have to switch on to get water. But a few years ago, we had BG change out the boiler, now we have constant hot water when we want. We don't have the cylinder anymore but in its place in a different location is a ...not sure what they are call to be honest. A big white unit and several pipes coming in and out of it.
  22. Hi All, I was wondering if anyone could help with some advice. We're in the process of getting a new bathroom. I'm looking at suites and the like, but then when it came to choosing the type of shower to pick, I was so confused!! At the moment, we just have your standard two taps, one with cold water one with hot water, connected to a shower head. We set our own temps and pressure by adjusting the taps. Now, with the new shower, I see we have several options and this is wherein the confusion lies!! which one is suitable for our bathroom! I have been looking at Electric showers Power showers Mixer showers Digital showers Can anyone advise on how I can tell which one I can use on my property? I reached out to one of the suppliers of the showers and they suggested that I get a local plumber to check this. I'd be looking at a standard call out charge to find out this type of information wouldn't I? I don't think the bath fitter will even bother coming out to look and help determine this as he has basically more or less refused to come out to measure out the bathroom to make sure he gives me the correct dimensions on the products we need for the suite. Any advice would be appreciated.
