  1. Is that the garage? Looks completely out of context in terms of exterior finish, position in relation to bathe house and position in relation to the view (think the main view is that way). Also, what’s the random wooden clad box on the other side? Looks like a badly planned house that suddenly needed a bit extra that was slapped on last minute. I’m glad they like it, but I think it’s clear that everyone has different ideas of what ‘tasteful’ is. I certainly wouldn’t have built anything like that!
  2. Yes! I assume that if it was linked to the MVHR it would have an impact on the ability to balance the system?
  3. I was considering this too but linking it up to MVHR. If it’s ineffective I won’t bother with the extra expense/complexity?
  4. It was for the whole lot, house founds BC drawings etc. I agree. Tempted by my Upwork contact based in south London. Would do a site visit included in the $1500USD too.
  5. Really sorry to resurrect an old thread... trying to make a similar decision ourselves. Many people have used/recommended Tanners in Ireland. They obv wouldn’t be doing a site visit. Their quote to me was €8500 inc vat. Vs a similar remote cost from upwork of $650-$1500 usd. Absolutely!! Found someone on upwork covered by uk PII - will obv check this throughly! @Patrick did you go with a remote/upwork SE in the end?
  6. Our Flavel Aurndel cost £1100 inc installation, flue, cowel, vat... etc etc. No noise. Exceptionally good at making our bedroom very warm indeed!
  7. Go elsewhere then. They don’t deserve your business IMHO. There will be someone who can help. Just explain to the sellers and explore other options. Try Ecology, they seem well regarded by many here!
  8. Which company was it? We tried different companies to get a mortgage. generally people on here have issues with BuildLoan but get great service from Ecology. We certainly found this to be the case. good luck! Even if it doesn’t come off you’ll be in a better place for next time, but personally I’d persevere, but do your best to get finance in place.
  9. +1 but get the builders acknowledgement that it’s his mistake and will correct it in writing just in case!
  10. We used Estimators Online - about £100 but lots of detail, only issue is they don't do 'non standard' such as ICF etc.
  11. Undecided, but aiming for ASHP I think. Still required? Can it not switch between UFH and hot water if needed and can it also not be programmed to stay on for a minimum time?
  12. Ooo no idea if I’m going to need a buffer tank or not. How does one determine this?!?
  13. Sorry to drag up an old thread. would/could you use one of these as a backup for ASHP UFH? For example install it just in case it gets too cold for the ASHP to work either to take over or sublimely the heating or if there were any other issues? trying to build in solutions at source rather then scrabbling round when something does go wrong!
  14. Possibly, yes. Didn't realise they weren't the same thing! Specifically the Stroud planning site, however a brief check of others reveals the same issue? Anyone else having this issue or is it just me?
  15. Is it just me but I can no longer use the measure feature on the planning documents from the Planning Portal websites? It's a very handy feature which needs flash which apparently is being discontinued or something like that. I've tried different browsers but have no joy with any of them! Thanks!
  16. So... Option 1 - 1x combi for both hot water and heating (Vaillant EcoTEC Plus 938) £2000 Option 2 - 2x combi BAXI 228 GAS COMPACT COMBI BOILER (heating temp range 20’ - 80’) £600 And Vaillant EcoTEC Plus 938 (hot water) £2000 Option 3 - ASHP £5000 (12kw Samsung) 300l horizontal hwt £900 All obv plus installation and associated plumbing...
  17. Yes I understand that they are both different systems that need installing differently. I guess costing is the next step. If however we can’t use gas boilers for UFH without a tank then we may as well use a HWC in the loft anyway and just do it that way even tho it’ll be a bit more inconvenient for installation and maintenance but better on a day to day living.
  18. I had this as an idea too. Like a 10kw for UFH and a 38kw for hot water. I just need convincing that although ASHP seems lovely on the surface it genuinely is the best option for us.
  19. It is available yes. what other factors am I missing?
  20. Ok, so slight switch in thoughts... how does everyone feel about just ditching the whole ASHP/hot water cylinder thing and sticking with a plain simple mains gas combi? I know it’s not as brilliantly environmentally friendly, but the installation costs I assume will be much lower and running costs can’t be that much more expensive?!? Plus space saving....
  21. Nah... Thats just 'Shabby Chic'. All the rage these days I've heard! Or 'Distressed Industrial'.... your choice!
  22. Think more like utility/laundry/boot room. Place to come in with muddy boots and dogs before getting layers off and keeping house reasonably clean! Also dog food/bowls and beds. It’s a busy heavily used space in our house!
  23. Don’t worry, not decided yet. Think the preference would be loft if we can sensibly get 2x200l or a 400l one up there but exploring utility space as a backup.
  24. I followed your utility post @canalsiderenovation! Think we may be going down the same route... what size cylinder is that?
  25. That’s why I was v interested in their posts on this! I’ll have to convince my wife, a decent size utility was relatively high on her list... prv? Pressure release valve as a guess this for a vented cylinder? On a similar/separate note could you put fuse boards etc in this mini-plant-room? Or would it get too hot?
