Shower drain plug - does this need attention?
steveoelliott replied to steveoelliott's topic in General Plumbing
Sorry to sound daft but can the underside seal be disturbed from above if somebody fiddles (turns) with the top part? Mine is tight from the top anyway. -
Shower drain plug - does this need attention?
steveoelliott replied to steveoelliott's topic in General Plumbing
Thanks.. So in the top seal is basically redundant. Having had a feel around, I see what you mean. If the top part did leak it would just fall into the bigger bowl underneath and it's how this seals to the shower tray that's important. I'm guessing that twists on from underneath. -
Think I found it but reached out to them... https://www.plumbers-mate-sales.co.uk/dudley-dio-51mm-dual-flush-pneumatic-push-button---08001374-288-p.asp

Well in fact, the bottom part is broken and as you can see that part of the button is pushed in. Yes short press for short flush, press and hold for long.
-
I will do that but I assume they are as for the most part it does flush OK.
-
When it happens there is plenty in it as a second / third go normally gets it. The button does feel rather worn.

Shower drain plug - does this need attention?
steveoelliott replied to steveoelliott's topic in General Plumbing
Possibly albeit a little awkward... In fairness water pools around the plug and doesn't appear to seep in so most likely it is sealed but just the edging perished. Hopefully the previous owner / installer put plenty of putty on it. Do these literally just unscrew? I can imagine them getting disturbed by an overzealous cleaner! As an FYI this has to be the worlds smallest shower room... have no idea what the previous owner was looking to achieve as personally I would have had an extra wardrobe with the space. -
Sometimes the flush works and other times it only does a partial /weak / half hearted flush etc. I figured replacing the button was the most logical thing to do but should I be investigating the actual flusher also?
-
Hi, Whilst cleaning the shower tray in one of our en-suites this morning, I noticed that the seal appears to be perished. I presume this requires unscrewing / re-sealing? Is it much of a job? Thanks in advance...

Hi all, Sorry for the layman question but I have a defective flusher (intermittent) which I need to replace. I'm pretty sure I can muster this myself but just want to know what I need to order. Thanks in advance...

Valiant Ecotech Plus 637 - Error F76
steveoelliott replied to steveoelliott's topic in Boilers & Hot Water Tanks
I guess Vailant would carry fuses if this was the case but the labor to get to it might be prohibitive. I will check that quoted pricing isn't inflated Agreed on the failure pattern. -
Thank you all... He was happy either way to be honest. I was just thinking about the chance of catching something across the long landing, down the stairs and along the hall. Even with the best intentions accidents happen. Will take a view on it when he does it. One is an oak door and the other 2 are heavy / quality panel doors.

I apologize for my ignorance but I was wondering how much dust / debris to expect whilst planning 3 internal doors. We are talking taking ~3mm off the bottom of each door but given their location (upstairs end of long landing) and the fact it has been freshly painted, I am not overly keen on the carpenter taking this through the house and down the stairs etc. With the best will in the world it is going to end up knocking into something on the way. The room is essentially empty, just freshly decorated and will have new carpet down. So I was thinking large dust sheet to catch shavings etc. I've never seen an electric planer in action so just didn't know how much dust / debris to expect.

Valiant Ecotech Plus 637 - Error F76
steveoelliott replied to steveoelliott's topic in Boilers & Hot Water Tanks
Thanks... Now it has given up completely and always showing F.76. I spoke to Valiant and they do a package where you pay ~£300 for 6 months cover and as part of this they will fix the boiler unless beyond economic repair. If it is then they will either refund the money or give you £750 off a new boiler so it is a no brainer. I will be doing this before the winter but for now just using the immersion on the megaflo. -
With my very limited knowledge, one thing that has always concerned me is that a correctly installed VCL would prevent detection of a leak in the roof membrane. When we had a leak it manifested itself as blown plaster on the wall and water tracking back from the wall across the ceiling. We have a VCL; whether it is installed correctly or not I don't know as the work was performed before we purchased the house. With a VCL I believe a very slight leak may go undetected for sometime which may also cause problems for the roof I would imagine. Of course, that doesn't mean you should omit one but historically they weren't installed AFAIK.

I’ve contacted supplier and will just have to try. Hopefully it is obvious after the first two drops as at that stage easy to back out. -
Sealing Shower Enclosure
steveoelliott replied to steveoelliott's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
I was advised the same and on another shower where the wall profile are chromed some of the silicone has holes in etc. For that shower somebody else suggested I simply apply a thicker bead over the old instead of cutting it out to avoid scratching. I always thought this was a bad idea though. -
Hi Folks, Having a feature wall in one of the bedrooms and have my decorator hanging the paper for me... One thing he has brought to my attention is the white lines at the end of the rolls (as per photos). He is concerned that this may lead to visible white lines at the end of each strip. I've contacted the wallpaper company for comment. This is the product: Amara Panel Vinyl Wallpaper Dark Blue Belgravia 7375; https://www.worldofwallpaper.com/amara-panel-vinyl-wallpaper-dark-blue-belgravia-7375.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjw4PKTBhD8ARIsAHChzRJnjXZdjfKbTZQvLQP0mL1SI53R-OzrLfLZzwjGHH9I6uCtLOtbaAwaAu8mEALw_wcB Just curious as to your thoughts...

Thanks all… one end of the screw is in one pole and the other is just a pre drilled hole. If it had a steel thread in the female side initially I think it would be better. Anyway glue and or plugging seem to be way to go. Personally I don’t think it needs to come apart after. -

These poles aren't actually that old and match the rest of the room but I can see from the description why you've said that lol
