Have to be honest once what I saw at a friends amazed me . They were having a new kitchen fitted and the so called electrician had wired ‘shortest’ route . He literally have wires crossing the wall ; not vertical from sockets . I wet myself laughing when I saw it . Sparky got angry and asked what was so funny . I said how the (expletive deleted) are you meant to fix any units ? . Guess where the wire is ??? He then got a bit pissy . So I told him on my friends behalf ( who seemed unaware of the issue ) to (expletive deleted) off . I believe he was paid ‘ up to date ‘ . Then the wiring was ripped out and done correctly. I thought it was just common sense !

True But ‘labour’ seems insanely expensive anyway - regardless of quality...

It’s like the Wild West . Just cowboys everywhere.

Title says it all Try where ever possible to do it myself but not always feasible . ’Fixed price’ is a myth ‘ It’s a lot of work will take 3 days ‘ . So it either takes 1 day or 2 weeks to finish Corners that can’t be cut always are Cost is always insulting! Cost always starts at least twice as high as you estimate ‘Tradesman’ who has been doing it for 30 years , seems to sometimes know less than you Argument always happens over work and payment Usually ends in verbal confrontation or a fight . Perhaps i’m Just unlucky ; perhaps my avatar photo attracts the wrong crowd ? Apologies to fair and reasonable tradesmen on this site .

Thanks ! Glad someone knows how to do it properly.... Think I might start a new thread ....... ?
-
Thanks . from the pic it has an ‘L’ top that actually sits into the slot ? Sad isn’t it the ‘roofer’ won’t do it , I have too ?
-
Yeah I agree . Think I’ll just do it myself - less hassle! So what do I actually stick in the slot ? Is it literally just a length of plastic trim so rain runs over the edpm rather than behind it ?
-
I’m probably worrying over nothing . Beneath ground has never leaked along that edge ; but niggles me . ‘Tradesmen ‘ said it couldn’t be done because there’s no way they can grind any accurate slot along the uneven wall .... I.e being lazy
-
This is what I thought!!! Too be honest though the stone wall as you see it is actually above the external below ground insulation which is 150mm thick. So 'technically' the stone wall is away from the build by some distance.....

Right ! Usual bollocks with trades ? Anyway almost finished but he hasn’t angle grinded a slot and put trim on the rough wall to make it 100% water tight . Just glued the edpm up the stone . It looks ‘tight’ but ‘worries’ me . Rest of the job looks good . Is there any easy way for me to do this for my own peace of mind ? Rather than cut a slot etc . Was thinking of fixing like a piece of guttering / tile trim along the edge and then ‘filling’ in behind it . But what should I fill with ? . External mastik ???

Can stick photos up later so balls up is clear ?

Meanwhile back on topic ? I have some issues ( personal and with the build ) . My down pipe will be on a concrete base but within the mot1 and sand ( i.e traditional driveway paving ) . Should I protect the pipe ? Like build concrete blocks either side of it and maybe over it to protect from the mot1 being vibrated ? Also , due to a technical error ( aka a (expletive deleted) up ) the horizontal roof water run off pipe will unfortunately run across a walk on sky light !!! ? . Can I reduce the pipe ? . What’s the min I can get away with ? . It’s a straight run with a decent fall just too wide ?

Mediation it is then!
-
Yeah I did guess it shows a favourable approach rather than just saying no . What I don’t understand is they could of made a sensible offer without me going down the ccj route . Perhaps it needs to be ‘real’ for them to take action . Not sure it can be done by phone though . Who chooses the location if we must meet ??
-
Update The company in question finally responded to the court . Naturally they state it’s all my fault and that the drawings are not “ unintentionally misleading “ . Needless to say they don’t respond to any of my points . They have suggested they would be willing to use the court mediation service which avoids a hearing . Anyone attended a mediation? ; my natural response is just straight to the hearing .
