  1. Ta. Was the just as worried about drilling the cistern in case it cracks or crazes. All I can find on Geberit sites is it's "one piece blow moulded plastic". So what sort of diameter should I be thinking about? (Tempted to try a teensy weensy drop of solvent weld on something that won't show to see if my Y branch mod would work).
  2. You can get armoured Cat-5E / 6 out of interest.
  3. Probably for the gatekeeper's lodge! I think he's meaning the 16mm2 is from the meter at the gate TO the house for the house supply.....but not sure.
  4. Really keen to do something like this and pretty sure the wife and kids would really appreciate it too! So....as I understand it I need for a start to introduce a Y branch into the flush pipe that comes down from the cistern? As best as I can ascertain (lost my vernier so circumfrence/Pi) it's 56mm dia. No idea what it's made of though.....some kind of "styrene"? Looks like it is solvent welded? So the way this works; when you flush water comes down the flush pipe, past the Y branch and "clears the contents". When the flush pipe doesn't have water coming down it the "smell" can be extracted from the pan via the branch? So wondering if I could add in a generic solvent weld branch like this: http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Plumbing/d20/Plastic+Solvent+Weld/sd2885/Solvent+Weld+135°+Branch/p23092 What sort of an idiot would start hacking into a perfectly good Geberit???
  5. Sorry, a bit lost tbh.....the 16mm2.....is that the proposed supply cable to the house? And you want to run the data and phone in the same duct? In the same "wiring system" each cable needs to be insulated for the highest voltage present. Or you install the cables in separate compartments like trunking. Or you separate with an earthed metallic screen but that screen needs to have the "equivalent" current carrying capacity of the biggest Band II circuit in this case 230VAC I presume. SWA provides no screening only armour. It's "leaky" between the strands. Screened cable is exactly that. Normal separation is 50mm for external cables but can be less if you install a non conducting divider. However..... The BIG consideration though is that segregation is meant to prevent mains voltage appearing on the telecoms stuff through induction which you REALLY don't want. A bit of plastic won't necessarily prevent that IMO depending on how things "lay" which is why separate ducts are a good idea. Your utilities company will likely have their own diagram showing trenching depths and segregation of services. Who's your DNO?
  6. Spotted a mistake! The eBay page shows the dimn from top of pan to centre of 100mm waste as 190mm but in fact its 175mm.
  7. Can anyone assist? I've "dabbled" in making my own small scale solar thermal panel. It worked, returned some decent temperatures and cost nothing. It was just a bit of fun with the kids. https://www.flickr.com/gp/122042403@N05/TYnTF6 Looking on another thread at all this talk of logging with a Raspberry Pi. In an ideal world I'd like to be able to look at a real time graph on my phone / pc showing: -Ambient temperature -Temperature at the output pipe of the panel -Temperature of storage tank Any pointers? My boy can code all day long.....if he can be bothered! I struggled with BASIC!
  8. Boasting again? I trust that's diameter not length?
  9. The seat looks decent. Soft close and quick release for cleaning with pull up rubber anchors all fixed from the top:
  10. Joking aside, is a fully open bottom a good thing? The ratchet does seem to have small increments. The Geberit fixing bolts seem made for this (both German?). A lugged plastic insert centralises in the hole in the pan. Veiwed from rear of pan: Then it connects the other side like this with large washer and nut:
  11. I've got the T-shirt:
  12. Even my sheds not finished! That's a shed? Seriously? It's bigger than many of the original properties where I live I kid you not and certainly better built. Sod my bathroom can I move in now? EDIT: Mods, this is needing to be hived off into it's own thread maybe?
  13. Here's my entry to the Buildhub shed of the year, I'll be living in it for a couple of years if I don't finish the bathroom :
  14. The soil on the pan is 100mm dia so I'll use the Geberit pan connector that came with the frame then the 90mm female to 110mm male kindly donated by @PeterStarck. I thought the heavy duty ratchet spanner that came with the Bernstein pan was a nice touch:
  15. Ordered some 110mm Hepworth solvent soil fittings off eBay. NOS according to the listing. Grey so the Sharpie shows up!
  16. Thanks all. Just called into the local PlumbCenter on the off chance (had to go to the motor factors) looking at 110mm solvent weld. Silly prices even on their own brand. Seemingly if I had an account I could get 50% off. WTF? They were very helpful but I came out.
  17. My wife doesn't know about Pinterest. Long may it stay that way!
  18. Could you pre-do the frog as a lump of tapered (oiled?) timber?
  19. This thread is "what it's all about" as far as I'm concerned. Ed doesn't "have to", could indeed take an easier route but wants to see "if he can". Rediscovering a lost art and some of his local history at the same time. Great stuff!
  20. "Indirect lighting". Search for cornice & coving uplighters.
  21. My firm was once asked to fix some protection tape to a parapet wall for a main contractor as we were there anyway fitting safety harness eyebolts and abseiling points hence had the drills etc. We did it then and came in one morning to find the lot had been nicked. All that was left was an inch square where the fixings were.
  22. The yellow "plugs" in @JanetE's pics above.....I presume they're "smell" tight and in pretty tight too? I only ask as we've occasional "backing up" problems (involves me down the manhole with a shovel ) Once the loo's in you get fair warning of course. But with me it'll be a case of get the frame in, wall boarded and it could be a while before I tile.
  23. So top of closed plastic SEAT to finished floor at 425mm NOT closed plastic LID. Ta.
  24. Trying to plan ahead for when I have to wheel myself in and slide off sideways onto the loo. Hence making the doorway wide and open wet room area.....they can just wheel me in and hose me down.
  25. A serious question....at what height should a toilet be set at? And is that height to top of porcelain or top of seat you sit on? Is it Part M?
