Do not go hacking anything off! Not what I meant! I had the idea you want to bring the inner sill, the OSB covered bit, up a bit higher? I was thinking something like this. Excuse fag packet and poor sketch: Thing is I don't know if its necessary but I can't see a big chunk of insulating material there would be a bad thing. To help guard against cold bridging at that junction.

This is why people get the ar5e with you! I ask for a better photo and you say no what's there is good enough! ? It's your opinion it's good enough for me! Let's be honest we're guessing as to the section through of that threshold unless you do a sketch. Any insulation would work I guess if packed in tight but you would need to support the timber top somehow with "blocks" or strips of timber here and there. I'd be taping all joints too where the door meets the surround. Tbh I'd expect foil tape to maybe split over time if used there as it's not got much give. Proper air tightness tape better. Best I guess in the absence of that is low expansion foam in any gaps, silicone then whatever tape; duct, foil etc.

I'm wondering whether you put a 50mm slab of pir the width and length of the sill then over cap it with say good quality exterior ply that you could varnish? Is that a gap under the doors I can see?Got a better picture? There is a specific load bearing insulation type slab but its bloody expensive and I forget the name. You could maybe insert some 50mm deep supports into the pir here and there to give some support for the ply to bear on.

?100A fuse carrier too. Nice if there's a 100A fuse in there. The backboard looks to have got a bit scorched perhaps looking at that black mark?

I'll go and have a look in my salvaged fittings tubs. I keep everything!

That is I believe the BS number.

Made by J E Adams. Can you give the exact numbers off the side please. Can't quite make them out.

SSE, in that the brown box and grey is "theirs". Don't go touching or rattling those grey cables any more between the brown and grey box either in case loose or something.

On the back of this somewhat fractious thread: My understanding with what's happening ref Covid-19, is that if you are required to self isolate in an otherwise healthy household you should confine yourself to one room. Would it be feasible to up the airflow from that one room to prevent spread of the virus to the rest of the house? -

WTF is wrong with you? Where did I mention damp? There you go again chucking in a statement ref damp and attributing it to something I said. I mentioned mould not damp. My inference was that it's down to a lack of the good, clean air flow/ constant air changes you get with MVHR. The presence of dust lends itself for mould spores to lodge and grow. You twist comments in an attempt to get your point across. Second time you've done it to my posts here. In the face of that why bat on about cost? You are just a very tenacious individual who has to have the last word. Are you on the spectrum may I ask? -

As in positive ventilation? I had considered that but tbh the upheaval might be too much for them at their age. I can't see it being long before we're talking care homes. Dad is so tight for instance he refused my offer to rewire the place some years back (would have cost him virtually nothing). Of late we've been trying to convince him to have the bathroom remodelled to assist the carers but he won't hear of it. Any talk of work in the house and just gets defensive and irrational (He's loaded btw ?). -

When looked at from a purely monetary point of view. -

I simply said that your assertion that MVHR is a luxury is wrong. I can only assume that by keeping on about it, in the face of people telling you how it works for them, how it's often secondary to the cost for them (because of the unarguable benefits) that you're a bit special in some way. "Since when did the number of posts otherwise make my case incorrect?" When did I say that? Don't quote me out of context or put words in my mouth please. -

Imo you couldn't be more wrong for the reasons I've already outlined. It makes for a healthier environment all round. -

All the facts, figures, calcs and arguments against MVHR are pretty irrelevant tbh in the face of the sheer numbers on here who have it, like it and see the benefits. I would have it tomorrow if I could and here's a big "for why": I reluctantly have to visit my elderly parents. The 60's built bungalow with latterly added insulation and DG stinks to high heaven. There is also dust everywhere and black mould spores. Mum is doubly incontinent and has mixed dementia. Yes they have carers but it's really not enough. MVHR would 100% have reduced the dust in the house. It would also greatly help with the smell. Taken further there is some evidence that mould spores can lead to neurological diseases possible even forms of dementia. Mum and Dad make a point in closing doors and windows. Background ventilation that they couldn't fiddle with would be a boon all round. -
There is no heating in my refurbed bathroom. I do get some condensation on the inside of the original double glazed, upvc window. I really sealed up the 4 sides also. The window is in the outer leaf which doesn't help! Saying that, the shower is used +4 times a day and the extractor doesn't seem that good. Must take the door off and trim up to a definite 10mm gap.

You can buy a cheap humidity meter off of Amazon etc for about a fiver to give an indication of where you are now with regards to it. Similarly it'll show it reducing if you do hire a dehumidifier. Amazing the amount of water they suck out of thin air!

Bath Surround / Boxing In, and concealed pipework
Onoff replied to Onoff's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Genuinely lucky enough to have been fairly well stocked prior to all this. Living where we do we were thinking we might get snowed in. Not having a 4x4 can make it tricky! Snowmobile.....yet another project! -
This has reminded me that maybe if I get some enforced time off I can I can relook at making a specific purpose, time domain reflectometer... Add it to the list of projects @Onoff...

Bath Surround / Boxing In, and concealed pipework

Took the rainfall shower head down to clean the other night and dropped it on the ceramic tiled floor! (I had had a beer). Slight dink in the rainfall head but so far no visible damage to the tiles. Back up after descaling and it's not noticable. Surprising how much rusty crud in the little mesh filter. -
I worry about similar as we have the sparrowhawks here take pigeons that land on our currently felted dormer roofs. The birds are attracted by all the moss and puddles where there's barely any fall.

I've read the Switchmaster has 6 wires whereas a standard say Honeywell has only 5. Found this: sm=====honeywell earth===earth neutral===meutral yellow===white white===grey red, join to orange===orange
