  1. Gosh, Jeremy I have been away and didn’t see this. So glad to hear that. your about but not about your problem. I have quoted you so many times.
  2. I was told to keep mixing the stuff during application which makes sense.
  3. +1 that’s rot, Just a natural defect in the tree and I wouldn’t worry about it, timbers are always over sized.
  4. I agree and still don’t see their objections as valid in planning terms, and why not have a gate? Yes the hedge can be reduced, removed or die 🤷‍♂️ models are always good, not everyone can visualise from drawings (mind planners should be able to).
  5. I would guess your builder is right, even with a velux window but it might be worth changing your permission (others here will know more about that) and include a dormer on that roof to give more room.
  6. So what is your planning permission for? And why isn’t your box room part of that application?
  7. As long as you can drain downhill then I can’t see why it won’t work.however the 45’ rule would apply surely.
  8. What’s the question? I guess a full rewire so connect up a temporary power network and lighting network I guess.
  9. It’s easy to piss money away on new stuff for anything. I am a firm believer in re cycling so good on you, if it’s being clad then who is to know anyway??? But is it “fit for purpose” I.e. will it do its job? If so the I would argue it’s still 100% 👍
  10. Just asking as if you’re not allowed to extend with PD then why should they? Have a look at the planning portal.
  11. Yes the above (IMO) is concise and addresses the points adequately. Others may disagree but in my eyes you are compromising. Does primrose cottage have permitted development rights?
  12. Requires money up front to buy the kit to harvest the “fuel” and if she is struggling with fuel poverty how would she afford the kit?
  13. All these options have up sides and down sides, most people would not entertain any of them but I find it all very interesting, from straw bale construction which I was interested in 30 years ago through self generated lekky to home made diesel. And, the start of this thread (which I am sorry to have miss directed) home made stoves and a rocket stove which I might make for my workshop just because I can. Yes biogas is yet another alternative but you need either the animals, compost or other “fuel” to run it so that would depend on your lifestyle.
  14. Oh I agree in reality, No cows and ,”the other stuff” Most definitely
  15. So the ultimate in non grid connection is a diesel CHP running on converted cooking oil to generate electricity and heat, and a classic diesel car (requiring no MOT or Road tax) running on the same converted cooking oi, oh and a chip shop 🤣 sorry back on topic
  16. Yes, I just googled it, HVO is 10% to 20% more expensive than heating oil currently and complicated hydrogen techniques are required so DIY is out of the question. Shame . Still red diesel In generators is allowed but just found this, In addition, the rules on permitted uses changed in April 2022, and it’s no longer legal to use red diesel in cranes, bulldozers, or for powering mobile generators on construction sites. so I presume non mobile generators for back up are allowed to use red diesel.
  17. Just need to run a diesel genny on old chip oil (and the boiler if it will). 🤷‍♂️the ultimate in re cycling.
  18. I agree especially when she actually told me I would more than likely win at appeal 🤷‍♂️ . They can be “fined” (financial compensation) if they have lied or similar but they argued it was about interpretation of rules and policies. I did consider taking them on but frankly I was so relieved to get planning I just wanted to crack on and not spend /waste more time fighting them.
  19. And that’s because as a self builder you are not running a business, it’s to be your home for you and your family, so it is personal, yes there are rules of engagement which are set out beforehand (planning rules and policies) and we should get to understand those before we even start the process. It’s the lack of knowledge of their own policies and through no fault of their own no time to deal with issues in a timely manner because of lack of staff and funding. In my case an authoritarian dictator of a planning officer with no interpersonal skills whatsoever. BUT revenge was sweet when I won and the LPA lambasted for not following their own policies 👍
  20. Then don’t, it’s a personal thing, but you will pay more for heating as your fresh air is colder. If you need to up the flow rate to meet your needs then by all means do that. Jeremy Harris years ago did experiments on different levels of ventilation, window open no MVHR, windows (plural)open no MVHR, MVHR only and measured PPM of co2. His conclusion was MVHR gave a more even rate of ventilation which with open windows was very variable depending on wind speed and direction and in so doing required less heat input (and the air was filtered.) don’t get me wrong I love having windows and doors open (in warm weather) and think MVHR should be controlled by air monitoring, a bit like thermostats control whether heating is needed or not. One person at home, MVHR not required , two or three people at home MVHR on trickle, having a party, MVHR on boost, all controlled by co2 monitoring. (Or by monitoring moisture levels which are also an indication of CO2 levels. The last few months I spent in my build during a hot summer i turned the MVHR off and was venting the house at night through open windows and closing them by day. Sorry I don’t get that.
  21. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 love it.
  22. But this is not social, this Is important multi disaplinamary business interactions with other sectors of the self build community in your location (dear!) 🤣
  23. Great news, yet another win at appeal well done 💃🎉🕺🥤🍸
  24. Personally I don’t think that’s a valid objection unless it led to overlooking someone else’s house/windows which it’s not.
