  1. Afternoon all, wonder if anyone has any advice. we have engineered oak floor in our lounge which also has bifold windows. When the house was built last year I noticed a small amount of bowing in the center under the bifold but didn’t think much of it. With the recent warm spell it has risen up again and one of the corner planks seems to be lifting/ coming away. Being told the floor was installed as per instructions with 15mm expansion gap all the way around. Is this our fault for having the bifold door? Only options we have are: 1/ leave it as is and hope it does not get worse. 2/ Been told skirting can be removed at our cost and larger expansion gap cut in. (Room would need redecorating) Also thinking about getting UV film applied the the doors to see if it helps Thanks for any pointers
  2. That was the issue his engineer code was not working
  3. Evening all, We have Rehau Rio flush casement windows installed on the build with astragal bars. since the build was completed we have had issues with the bars popping away from panes. This has been on our snagging list since august last year but builder is only just addressing it. Rehau not that helpful at the moment. Independent fitter has been out today and said the bars need double sided tape to hold them down but the Rehau system is meant to be tapeless to keep the rubber seal in contact with the pane etc. In my opinion the bars have been cut too long allowing for no expansion gap making them bow in the heat. Some of the internal bars have been recut on-site to make them fit which also makes me think this. Has anyone encountered this type of issue before? i feel I’m being fobbed off by saying they should be taped, possibly need re doing each year is what we were told today!
  4. It has now all been sorted thanks guys. only remaining issue is they could not connect me to the texecom app and also left with back light on the external siren which we asked to be off, struggling to get them back to sort!
  5. Only issue is it’s a double socket and I need the other outlet to power phone and wifi hub etc. Will see if there is some sort of combination socket that can do both!? Many thanks for the help
  6. Yes thought the same, no one (possibly kids by accident) Just seemed a little odd, if it’s all good then I will leave it
  7. Morning all, Quick one, our alarm install is finally being completed today after a long wait. The main unit power supply just goes to a 3 pin plug then into the socket. Is this normal? I know it has battery back up but seems strange that the main unit could be switched off so easily via the plug socket? if it’s fine then I will leave it, if not I can raise it with them when they complete the install today
  8. Good valid points, I will continue to chase them then, just couscous that time is going by with no response it’s a texecom premier install
  9. Evening all, We have had our alarm system installed which has taken ages (in stages since December.) Everything seems to be wired apart from one door sensor for the garage door. They are meant to be returning to fit the last sensor then programming the new system but I’m now struggling to contact them. Is it possible to use another company to complete the programming or is this not really the done thing? Think we still owe £1200 for the programming (not sure if this is around the going rate?) Thank-you for any help
  10. Afternoon guys, Is anyone here running this Vent Axia setup? Getting fed up of having to leave the bathroom extractor on after the wife has been in there. Main concern is noise levels! Do you hear these units day to day and how loud are they on boost setting etc when located in the loft? Seems like a great idea and easy to fit just don’t want it keeping me awake at night!
  11. Many thanks for the reply Just checking to see if it was normal as half way through our 6 month warranty
  12. Evening all, Quick question if that’s ok. Our en-suite shower trap is fairly low profile with only approx 50mm of water sitting in the trap. Over a period of 2 weeks the trap tends to empty enough to allow smells into the bathroom. We don’t use the shower in the en-suite so could this all be normal? Looking at the soil vent pipe in the loft, the en-suite pipe has a vent cap on where as the main bathroom is piped to a vent tile in the roof. We have a vent tile on the en-suite side of the roof so not sure why this was never used. Take it the vent caps should flow fine not to cause siphon issues? Many thanks for any pointers
  13. 😂 Do I need to fill the bullet holes or just let them be skimmed over? i think the parcel is a lamp post but is a dodgy shape!
  14. OCD got the better of me and re did the 3 naff walls!
  15. Cheers for info Nick. That was reason for potentially painting the joists as treated so would look naff plain as you say. Kind of wish we had done fake beams in the main house to give some more character but sure that was looking quite pricey at the time!
  16. oak frame Dave so I’m leaving the beams exposed so boards will remain separate if that makes sense. Still toying with the idea of painting the ceiling joists and recessing the plaster board to give a beam effect but seems like a load of timber and effort and less room for insulation
  17. Thank you guys, Yes error on my part! Glad I’ve learnt this lesson on the walls and not the ceiling! Ive ordered some adhesive and will bond the edges. Think I should stick to my day job!
  18. Evening all, Please could I ask for some advice on plasterboarding. I have started to board out my oak frame/ wood clad garage. It has a breather membrane then 50mm celotex, then 12.5mm plasterboard on top. The uprights I’m fixing to are 600 centers but not really wide enough to fix two boards to. This means I’m ending up with approx 450mm overhang on some boards due to the spacing. There is no movement in the boards as they are hard up against the celotex. Will this cause issues later? Only thing I can think of doing is bonding the unscrewed section of board to the celotex. Thanks for any pointers!
  19. Sorry that was just an example was using the correct size 38mm version
  20. I’m afraid I don’t have a picture of the plumbing set up at the moment. Will look to pull it out for the 3rd time next week! It was a fairly cheap set up as could not find anything else at the time that was short projection. Would be easy if the tiler had not tiled the complete lower section as I would have had access from behind the unit. Below is the set up and joints I have been trying to use
  21. Evening all, Looking for some pointers on how to seal our cistern flush pipe. we have limestone floor that is un-even and it seams after a month or so the toilet must move slightly and cause the cistern flush pipe to misalign as it enters the pan then leak. The toilet has a built in sink unit so you cannot really access anything once the toilet is in place. So far I’ve tried all the different flexible pipes and none are short enough as the cistern is quite low. Also found they restrict flow so front of the pan is not washed on flushing. Has anyone found a flexible cistern pipe seal? Running out of ideas! Cheers for any pointers!
