Perhaps. Earthsave have only said that they think the above is the most likely problem, but the installer is denying liability too, so until I get it checked out I am caught in the middle. It looks like I can get someone out on Monday morning. Not ideal but at least it will determine where the fault is.

Not there yet. Earthsave have been having a look at the errors/code and think the most likely cause is installer error in the form of a loose connection wire. I'm waiting for a local electrician to confirm when he can come out to check the connections.

Due to the way the system is wired, that's easier than it sounds. The main unit can be switched off independently, but the only way to switch off the control panel is via the consumer unit, which also switches off the main unit. Earthsave have called me back today and they are going to arrange for one of their technicians to get to me as soon as possible, but no indication of when that will be as yet. Hopefully not too long as the temperature upstairs in the house is cooling rapidly without any heat being redistributed by the MVHR and the upstairs UFH isn't connected either. Thank goodness we kept hold of our old oil filled radiators - ugly but very effective and simple to use!

I'm going to speak to earthsave this morning and then see if I can arrange any necessary repairs, assuming the original installer of the system doesn't get back to me with a sensible solution. I will update on what earthsave say about it.

The unit is an ecocent air from earthsave products. The controller isn't brilliant, to be honest, as when the power is shut off (as it was frequently during what has been done of the second fix electrics) it doesn't automatically come back but has to switched on manually at the control pad. I don't know of any way to bypass the electronics but there is nothing on the unit to suggest you can. I should add that this wasn't a DIY install.

I'm waiting for a reply today. Agreed. Brief powercuts are not infrequent around here and I'd rather have a system that's robust enough ti withstand them than try and pursue the DNO every time there's a power failure or surge.

I've switched back on but there's still no change with the control pad display and it's not talking to the main unit. I will call the manufacturer tomorrow and see if they can help.

Not with all that up and down into the loft! I've already had 1 broken ankle in the last couple of years and don't want that again!

Okay, I've switched it off at the RCD and that has cut the power to thr control pad as well. I will give it long enough for a small glass of red wine then try it all again. Thanks, chaps.

The control pad has a user and maintenance interface but I can'tdo anything with these as i have never been given the logins.

Yes, the control pad is hardwired to the unit. Without taking off the internal panel covering the electronics of the main unit, I can't say whether there is a reset button. I don't want to mess with anything inside it as I have no idea what I would be doing.

I'm not aware of any battery in the main unit. The control pad is still on.

Okay, it did make it worse. The main unit is now giving out a high pitched alarm signal whistle. I've switched it off again. Update: and on again. Alarm gone but still not talking to the control pad.

None taken, Ed, but yes I did try that both at the control pad and the power switch to the main unit itself. I will give it another try - it won't make it any worse.

We had a brief power cut this evening with everything shutting down for about 5 minutes. Most things are fine but the MVHR won't come back on and appears to have dropped its link with the control pad. I've attached a photo of the messages on the pad. I have no idea how to re-establish this and the house is rather uncomfortable without it running. Can anyone help, please?

Any chance of some action photos? I will be making some changes to our system soon.

I had an alert appear on my MVHR controller for the pre filter. I haven't looked at these since the installation so took them out for the first time this evening. It appears that despite being clearly marked up for the direction they should be, one has been put in upside down. Is the filter fabric uni-directional? I need to put the filters back in whilst I await replacements (I have vacuumed them) but my concern is that if I mount them both correctly the crud from the one that was the wrong way around will get into the unit. Any advice, please?

My French doors (upstairs) are alu clad timber, triple glazed and outward opening. Not sure about orangeries, but could be worth giving my supplier a call - Norrsken.

Thanks, Jeremy. I will need to look at the potential solutions that can be fitted, but in due course as we are decirating our old house right now to get it on the market. Hopefully, I can find something that will improve matters and bring it up to the promised standard. Another one for the snagging list for the new place!

I think that this is the problem we have. I agreed to have the unit fitted into the loft space with the assurances that it would have anti-vibration installed and be as acoustically isolated as possible but this was never done. Hopefully a retro- fit will help reduce the vibration to some degree.

Be cautious about where in the loft you put the unit. Ours is in our loft space, directly above the en suite to our bedroom and even on a low flow speed it sounds like a ship's engine. Additional sound proofing may have made a difference but our contractor didn't finish the job so I will see if we can get it done as a retrofit and report back with any improvements. Much of the noise from ours is from the MVHR unit itself rather than the ducts and vents - these are compratively quiet.
