I was looking at this one. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Böhler-AG-Petrol-Generator-3-8KVA-WX3800K/dp/B06W9DXZBX/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1537818534&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=Generator&psc=1 It’s just for charging batteries and power tools on site.

Can anyone recommend a good, cheap petrol generator? just had a look on eBay and there are loads to choose from. Brands I have never heard of though. Thanks

Scares the life out of me.

I looked at every possible option and this was by far the cheapest and quickest for my situation. My house is going to be ICF and clad in timber though. Can’t wait to get started.

Need a fair size machine to move them into place. I’m using local farmers. Best decision I ever made. Mini digger n driver £150 a day. JCB n driver £200 a day. They’re bloody good too. Some of the manouvers Adam pulls off in that mini digger are death defying.

I’ll take some tomorrow. The bottom two courses are 1.5mx0.6mx0.6m blocks, laid lengthways. The upper 4 courses are a combination of 1.8mx0.6mx0.6m and 1.2mx0.6mx0.6m laid horizontally. No need for any mortar as the blocks interlock. The foundation is 400m high at the front and 100m high at the back creating a incline. This massively reduces the required width at the base compared to a traditional gravity retaining wall. Here are are a few pics of the bank and blocks being delivered.

I got a eye watering £40k qoute for a 4m x 12m timber crib retaining wall. £4K worth of huge concrete Lego blocks done the job. If anyone needs a cost effective retaining wall I recommend concrete Lego.

It’s the eco tax just like with pv panels and EWI. Thats my biggest gripe with all these things. Tax payers subsidise it through grants and incentives so they just increase the price 1000%. I find it ridiculous that we have one of the highest percentage of pv panel uptake in the world when we have so little uv. Especially in the NW and Scotland. Its made a lot of people very rich though and gives idiot politicians something to boast about. This country is crazy.

I have a feeling rrp aren’t atainable anymore. The panasonic one in the link above for £2500 has a rrp of £7899.

Thanks for the heads up ?

My neighbour recently applied to build a house directly next to my property. I told him before he did I would oppose and explained my reasons as to why. It was rejected. I would not have opposed if it had no impact on me, but it directly overlooked the garden and was literally on the other side of my fence.

Mine is a xc60 d5 polestar. It’s nice, well spec’d and quick. One of the best all rounders I’ve had, but not the most exciting car. If i had another Volvo, people would think I’m one of those weird Volvo owner club types ?
-
It’s bad enough driving one Volvo. I couldn’t have 2 on the drive. I’m not 40 yet ?

Thanks for all the advice. It’s appreciated. I wasn’t aware that vans and pick ups cost more to insure. I’ll check that out tomorrow. I’ve been looking on AT and eBay all night. These things can escalate quickly. Ive made a offer on a 2016 ford ranger double cab. It’s cheeky so I’m not holding my breath. But I know from painful, personal experience of selling my second car in March, that private sales in this price bracket are very slow at the moment. If I can pick up a newish truck/van for a good price I’ll go that route. If not I’ll get something older and cheap (maybe an estate as suggested) that I can’t lose much on. I think buying something half way between increases my chances of making a big loss.

Looks like a bit of a minefield buying a old Land Rover. They all look a bit beat up and they’re not cheap. Could be a expensive mistake I can’t afford. Love the way they look though. Cool cars.

My groundworkers are farmers and love them. They go driving on roman roads?!? Whatever rocks your boat is suppose.
-
Can’t complain about that. My car is a 2.5 5 cylinder AWD with 250bhp so I would think it would be fine. Definitley worth considering. I was just looking at a old X5, but I imagine the repair bills could potentially be huge and their is a lot that can go wrong. A cheap car is definitely worth considering, but I was thinking if I’m buying another it may as well be a van or pick up. If I find a cheap, reliable one. I’d consider keeping it long term for moving crap and dirty jobs.

I guess I could be more careful and consider a trailer. ?

My site is just thick with clay like mud. My carpet mats are caked in it as is my boot. Im doing pretty much everything myself with assistance from skilled friends. I’m thinking if it’s this bad in September, what will it be like in a few months? I’m constantly on and off site grabbing bits and keeping everyone fed and watered. I just feel like I’m abusing my car. I’m even eating my lunch in it when it rains. Thankfully insurance is not a worry.

My car is taking such a hammering with mud and crap inside and out, it is untrue. I was driving back from the timber merchants today with 6 lengths of 400mm plywood touching my back window and resting on my dashboard. I’m amazed I didn’t scratch my seats or mark the soft touch plastics on my dash. I really need to buy a cheapish van or pickup I can use for the duration of my build, then sell in the new year without losing too much money. Can anyone recommend any good options? I love cars, but know little about vans and pick ups. I don’t want to buy anything unreliable, but I want to avoid something so new it will depreciate heavily in 4-6 months. Thanks

Don’t listen to the barefaced, lying, Canadian idiot.

I attended a durisol course this week. They mentioned that modern polymer renders were a lot better than k rend. I didn’t pay much attention to the polymer renders as I’m using timber cladding.
-
Thanks for all the replies. It will be for underfloor heating to the ground floor and hot water. My house will be 12m x 6m. Insulated slab a 99% sure I’m using durisol. Im not looking for a budget unit, but thought I might be missing a bargain. ‘My budget is tight so I’m scouring eBay 3 times a day ?

I keep seeing mentions of good value eBay ASHP’s. Is it a particular model or seller? Nothing jumps out when I do a search. Thanks.
