  1. As @Russell griffiths pointed Out numerous times... if you dont go over the poured slab often and quick, again and again , you be ending up with a garage floor. So we had the concrete ordered for morning and ready with 4guys to spread and level, tamper and float. Pouring went smooth. Pumping was good. But when we started tampering and levelling the concrete, Murphys law kicked in: -concrete went off a lot faster than my groundworkers seen in quite a while -one Of the guys (concrete pump driver) had a stroke and needed medical attention:which took 2hours until ambulance arrived...taking out 1 labourer to take care of him So we where trying to get it done as best of my(our) skills. Managed levels and no massive dents (unlevel In a few spots but very minor /mm) . Managed getting it fairly smooth . But when it came to doing details/corners, concrete was already too hard to work it ... well , now we need to lay floor over it (later) anyways . Just thinking if that is already good enough to work with tiling on top or if we need to go over it with self levelling compound (I think that's overkill) ..
  2. In a roof . as a rule of thumb, without further looking into it, one can say: ventialtion ventilation ventialtion. There can be a lot of calculations made about where dew points are , about condensation risk assessments.... But at the end: More ventialtion has 0 disadvantages Less ventialtion has the potential to ruin your roof (rule of thumb)
  3. There s a 1.4m wide footpath.... so ...
  4. 6m . we can get it fairly level with traditional methods. just not on a powerfloated level -
  5. No Powerfloating on this one now- we can t get anyone who even halfway decent knows what they are doing... so need to do the best with the knowledge i can have on the day and that is oldschool slab . as straight as possible... Will need a tiled floor after i guess -wish me luck ?
  6. So its a "eco-just-in-the-name-build" ? . Welcome to the forum. It is the most helpfull source of information out there. The great thing about it is, that each can find their own type of "mentor" to listen too , some like it more technical - others, like me, are illiterate idiots and need everything explained with pictures or videos... Both can be found here.
  7. In July also the I-Beams for the timber frame and the OSB (or should i call it GOLD - prices went through the roof since i first had some quotes)arrived. https://tintabernacle.blogspot.com/2021/09/1-house-on-1-lorry.html
  8. After the Transport of the Materials was done , It only needed the beams spreading, bit of insulation in between and above , Underfloor heating in and a bit of a plinths wall built around the whole thing... and done. How long can this take - maybe 4-5weeks ? https://tintabernacle.blogspot.com/2021/09/plinths-wall-garden-wall-bricklaying_3.html
  9. So after the RingBeam was finally done, it was just a very quick and unstressfull small step to have the Block and Beam (or better block and insualtion) floor done. Just kidding: https://tintabernacle.blogspot.com/2021/09/plinths-wall-garden-wall-bricklaying.html
  10. How about metal shingles?
  11. I am , as always, grateful to have experienced advise from this forum (and @Russell griffiths as the most experienced simply due to age ?) Pumped reinforced Concrete is the way . Pumping at 8.00 Helicopter from 16.00 Should be a breeze
  12. 7m wide. Concrete pump it is . Edges are the brick walls, so dont think I need separate shutter. Only issue is that it takes a few hours before pumped concrete is dry enough to powerfloat ...
  13. Top man. I knew I did it right to cc you in. Also much clearer now . Apparently I dont need screed . It s my english - stupid foreigner. I need reingorced concrete topping on top of my block and insulation floor . Gonna buy a powerfloat and tackle the smooth surface myself . Wish me luck. ?
  14. Looking to screed my block and insulation floor. I know some of you...looking at you, @Russell griffithsARE not keen on liquid screed . But with 100m from nearest lorry access and 13cubes of screed, I really dont want to wheelbarrow dry screed into the site. So option left is liquid screed pumped. The challenge is, nobody in my area supplying that. They do pump concrete but say I'm too far out for liquid screed . I thought liquid screed is just a sloppy mortar (sand and cement)mix... is it not? Cause I was thinking about ordering just that ... concrete made with sharp sand , they are able to pump that ...what's the disadvantage of using this?
  15. What are the flanges you put around the service pipes? Where you find them?
  16. Some call it rise in value, others call it monetary inflation . ?‍♂️
  17. That's ridiculous. You have to be a slum landlord nowadays to make a profit I assume. Glad i stepped away from landlord game a few years ago ... Irrational panic is the mood of our times. If you're in the game of selling irrational panic , you have a solid business model as there is very high demand for it. Unfortunately i just cant sell it with a straight face so I'm no good as a irrational panic peddler.
  18. Just had to google EWS1. Just another bureaucracy step to rectify pencil pushers wages?. So just not going to have cladding then but a : " eco friendly environmental approved non flammable, Riba approved Facade shelling system " But anyone got that question ever answered: Does Rendered backing board fall under "standard" for mortgage/resale? o-o assume it should, but no clue and only spent 15min researching so far.
  19. Currently undergoing a similar problem. Was not worried about mortgage providers until recently . Now I see what you guys are talking about ... sad. @kxi mortgage providers Seem to have no issue with timber frame anymore (like mentioned, more than 30% new builds are now TF) BUT they have a problem in what you clad it with. Make it appear like traditional brick house ... all good. Anything else is non standard , doesn't fit into the tick list and therefore is super scary for any lender. The question I could not quite find out is: Are rendered backing boards considered a traditional finish aka are fitting the ticklist, or only rendered brickwork is in that category? They sure as shit are scared of timber cladding. Cause we all know, that all the high rises are dangerous cause of timber cladding . You sure seen the famous fire in the Grenfell timber clad. I just cant remember what they used back then , was it Cedar?
  20. Still alive and kicking ? sorry if you been waiting , we are absolutely crazy busy since last summer so if needing something urgent, it's always best to give me a call directly. number is on the website
  21. True. Just by coincidence it might be that somebody on the forum is having a similar setup and also has a similar HW system/amount of people and that I can then copy his/her choice . Like i said, it s only a small chance that this will work. @pdf27 phpp would probably give me some required figures, if I would use it (not planning to get certified) but that still does not solve the issue of infinity amount of brands/options.... so I thought I try and get some clever people advise on. And so far seems to work.
  22. Trying it this way: So this topic has been discussed 1000 times . I was reading a lot about it in 2019 - forgot 90% , re-read a lot in 2020 and forgot another 90% . Will need to spec up ASHP , unvented Hotwater Tank for Underfloor heating and hot water in a passivhaus . House is 175SQM . 125sqm groundfloor , 50sqm 1st floor Who has done this on a similar size? Just so i can copy their setup 1:1 ? Cant find a blog or topic by someone who done this in a similar-sized building . If you could point me in the right direction - search results throw a lot up but nothing quite fits.
  23. Sorted . I think I found the perfect guy. @Russell griffiths Facebook? Do I look like 60???
  24. Been a while. Had no time. Contrary to the rest of the world, i did not have a minute of rest in 2020 and even 2021 looks similar so far. Finally managed to update the blog... https://tintabernacle.blogspot.com/2021/03/the-ringbeam-is-in-or-above.html Clickbaity headline , but i promise... Shuttering DID burst (even though nothing fatal) and Concrete DID explode (again , nothing fatal) More in the blog . Cheers ? P.S.: @Jeremy Harris , i am still missing you and this place has become less of a fascination for me since you gone, so get your s**t together and help us helpless noobs out ? . @Russell griffiths trying his best to replace you, but he just doesnt have the endless depths of statistical analysis and tables ? (still a big help though) Not to forget the rest of the very patient and knowledgeable Buildhubbers -thank you all !
  25. Thats more or less what i m getting. I m getting 3.5m long sections out of I-Beams , all precut in factory. The issue is not the frame but the right guys... I m now finally at the stage to hire the team for this summer but builders are busier than ever
