  1. Which direction does that window face? Also, are there any other houses in the terrace that current use their chimney?
  2. You will do whatever makes you happy. You don’t need anyone’s agreement from here or anywhere else. But I do look to government to set the parameters well so our beautiful country does continue, overall, to make progress towards a lesser footprint.
  3. But how far does one take this? A huge stash of bottled water, tinned food, iodine and an assault rifle á la many American NRA members? In my more fanciful moments I wonder about planning for a backup battery for life support systems (lighting, MVHR, internet and coffee maker) but in reality in civilised parts of Blighty power cuts aren’t that common. On the other hand isolate me from coffee and it’s not pretty. You can take my coffee cup from my cold, dead hand. 😉
  4. They are fantastic for masonry. For cladding I think battening where you know you’ll be putting a light is a really good idea. The windage on some lights is huge and a rattling light is bad news. I’d not go for ply myself behind the cladding as that might get wet from time to time, so a few extra treated battens in the right places is a good plan.
  5. A divided opinion huh?
  6. This is not a complaint, but it’s been a long while since I last looked out to sea and didn’t see turbines.
  7. I think it’s easy to forget that our society already contains many for whom the above is already true. Running a car is expensive to those on low income. Public transport isn’t cheap for a family and isn’t that easy to use now either.
  8. Perhaps they are in terms of the long term cost to our planet.
  9. I think he’s nonplussed. 😉
  10. I don’t charge for my time standing up either. I’m cheap, me.
  11. I used to do that all myself but got lazy and lost my workbuddy so now I pay a professional who does it properly, with no modern slavery required. I don’t charge for my time. Honestly, I really don’t charge for my time. We only have one on at once except anon Christmas Day, the rest of the time walking to another part of the house is bracing like one of those refreshing ice baths the Scandinorwegilanders take after a sauna. They must be bloody mad lol
  12. Ummm, with an ASHP with a decent COP lecky will beat gas just about methinks, especially if one factors in servicing. Oil is still wonderfully cheap, but requires annual servicing and space for storage and deliveries and methinks will soon-ish be targeted to push peeps towards lecky just for political boxticking if nothing else. So, I think given best guesses re future price trends lecky wins. So there. Or rather, so not therefore…
  13. Did they hoover out the place?
  14. That’s a petrol pump for an e-bike, you can see the 13a socket by the side.
  15. I’m sorry. I must rant harder. (And I am green tinged really, our current house has an oil boiler, a bottled gas hob, and three wood burners and the new one will have an ASHP and only one woodburner and we are debating whether to have a permanent or portable induction hob).
  16. Perhaps it can be argued that our society's base assumption of 24/7 electricity is not sustainable.
  17. That can’t be a workshop - there’s some floor showing!
  18. Good plan. Don’t forget the armchair and side table next to said woodburner. Oh and the stovetop kettle. And maybe a few snacks. And how about a TV on the wall on the left…..
  19. I like to be helpful but this early on a Sunday morning the phsyics leave me empty and yearning for more coffee. So instead I’ll offer my two-penneth of help in another area. I think in Blighty it’s either maths (plural) or arithmetic. Or are they calculations? OK, I give up, I’ll go make coffee.
  20. Oh ok, I will put loads of solar panels on the roof then…. then I can feel all smug…. just got to build the bugger first!
  21. I was told by the technical guy at the company who’ll be supplying our fire, etc. that mineral wool can smell rather when used to pack around an insulated flu. Given that peeps have used mineral wool round their flus did they find it stinky?
  22. If you're going to have the radiator/towel rail as drawn check you're not going to catch it with the swing of the door......that type are pretty deep Early morning sp deficit!
  23. Maybe I should put half a dozen of the same panels on my man cave at the bottom of the garden to use on the main roof if needed.
