  1. They found that the face bricks they where using where going to be 20 plus weeks till the next delivery So decided to use a similar brick to build the rest and the four started
  2. A friend of mine fits Hacker and he loves them Ours is Nolte Looks identical to Hacker Great quality We used slate on ours May look at clay lookalikes this time A friend is managing a site in the Lake District and has built four upto chamber and is taking the face brick down due to long lead times
  3. Corporation tax is set to rise CG etc They will have to pull it back from somewhere
  4. Your right Ian The money could be better targeted Perhaps nurses should have seen some of the windfall I was offered two 10k payments the help with my yard rent and business rates I’d be quite happy for that to go elsewhere
  5. Yep Like most things The government didn’t think any of this through
  6. I don’t think all is doom and gloom A site of 50 homes we have just started has filled all the contractors parking with tens of thousands of bricks and timber Red Row and co are committing to large amounts of materials before they are made Stamp duty and also the Furlough payments ending will have an impact on the above Whilst Furlough was well meant It’ reportedly put most families 10k per year better off With nothing to spend it on Most Subbies I know have had 4x7.5 k payments while still working and interest free loans should they want them
  7. I’d say everything has gone up at least 15% Timber seams to have doubled Followed by cement products Bricks and Steel Laboure seems to have bottomed out Though the problem for self builders has always been that the available laboure are the guys who do private work Wanting the same or more money than the site guys With a fraction of the daily production At the moment these guys are charging more than established companies Weve a very good local builder near us who has built about 20 upmarket homes nearby and many self builds over the years He will only build the shell to watertight now Due to the hassle of getting trades and rising laboure costs Hopefully things will start improve towards The end of the year
  8. Welcome Having sold your own home Your in a great position When you find the perfect plot Move quickly As good ones arnt on the market long

The one far right looks like 3c 300ac 8.6 The one on the left looks like 300 ac It doesn’t seem to run to either property Just runs along the lane As you can see our new supply like both properties will come from the overhead across the road

  14. Wow A one acre garden plot Well done The stressful part of your build out of the way
  15. Thanks Watch this space then ?
  16. I’m preparing the sap and need to decide on heating I would have preferred ASHP on our first build But was over ruled due to there being gas right outside No gas on our next builds Easy decision No My wife thinks a oil fired boiler would be good A couple of builds nearby have been passed using oil boilers God knows how Just feels like a step backwards to me My question is Is there any RHI incentives out there Reading one of the build mags they seem to be changing things in March
  17. If your putting Wet UFH in You really need 75 mil screed to give you 50 mil coverage on top of the pipes
  18. I would tell them no and ask them to zero rate the kit
  19. We finished our five three bath two and a half years ago Third of an acre plot We have just purchased a 0.6 acre plot with a 3 acre field at the back We would have preferred this as one plot and build in the middle But the seller like most others obtain planning for two So it’s left us with little choice but to split the plot down the middle Ideally you could buy a smaller plot that has a paddock at the back Paddocks as non building land cost a fraction of what you will pay for your plot Good luck with your search
  20. Again 0.5 is pretty big plot for one in an expensive area You may find that the size (price) of The plot may dictate the size of the house
  21. I’ve had two enquires both medium sized housing sites We can also cut there labour costs by 50% Normally MF is slightly more expensive to supply
  22. Timber prices will have to fall once stocks start to mount up A 70 mil C stud has just gone up in price to 2.88 Less than half the price of equivalent timber
  23. Sounds like a bit of a sales gimmick Theres such a small amount of water in the concealed systems Ours have refilled before I’ve finished washing my hands
  24. I always use Ditra mat simply because my supplier price matches the cheaper Dura Ive used plenty of Dura It’s not as good to work with as Ditra But does the same job
