Sealant and Toilet Holes
canalsiderenovation replied to canalsiderenovation's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Cheers @Onoff I'll have a play around with the Fugi tool first. And yes the pan needs to stay in place. -
Sealant and Toilet Holes
canalsiderenovation replied to canalsiderenovation's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Thanks really helpful I'll get stuff ordered. When you say clear CT1 to seal between pan and floor and then seal around the pan with the white do you mean the white goes over the top once the clear has dried? @bassanclan thanks for the link to silicone remover. That will help me get the existing stuff out without damaging things. I'll see if I can buy another toilet fixing kit as we don't seem to have one and just use the caps. -
Sealant and Toilet Holes
canalsiderenovation replied to canalsiderenovation's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Ooer I need to find these threads about where I should be sealing so I don't caus Yes I need to be super careful getting off the existing as it's on the tray and showerwall and I don't want to scratch it so I'll probably not use any blade. So clear CT1 to seal around loo but in the shower a white which can be Dow Conning 785, Forever White or BT1 or similar. I've ordered the Fugi kit, I aren't too bad at using silicone but anything that helps is a bonus! -
Sealant and Toilet Holes
canalsiderenovation replied to canalsiderenovation's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Thanks will look at CT1 or Dow Conning 785. I presume white for dealing shower but would it be clear for sealing round the toilet/floor? No, it hasn't been since last year. Just not got round to doing it and the plumber didn't do it but I didn't trust him to! -
Couple of questions: Our plumber didn't seal round the toilets (they can't be screwed to the floor because of the UFH). I'm more competent than him to seal round them however I still haven't got round to this. Can anyone advise which sealant I should use? I've got a Screwfix and Toolstation order to put in so I want to get it ordered. Also, is there anything I can get to put in these holes - I presume this is where they would be fixed to the floor normally. Second question, I don't think our shower is sealed properly as we have noticed a bit of water running out at the bottom. I think there is a bit of a gap in the corner and water is coming and I'm happy to reseal it all. Should I get rid of the existing? If so what's the best way of getting it up? It is looking a bit grubby/moukdy in places and we haven't used it for a while and I haven't cleaned it because I don't know I'd I should just get it all up and start again (SWMBO and various hair dye things haven't helped). Again, is there a particular sealant I should order?

Pipe off hot water tank
canalsiderenovation replied to canalsiderenovation's topic in General Plumbing
I think we may have been a bit heavy handed pulling out the bed. I mean I've put on lockdown weight but I don't think I'm that heavy! We certainly haven't been jumping up and down on it. We have a good 2-3cm now spare above it which is much better. We noticed an odd water mark so it did make me wonder if it's happened before but as there is two beds they may not have used this one much. We find it's the comfier one. -

I did it thank you all and @Nickfromwales who is probably rolling his eyes with my stupidity earlier on in the thread! -
Pipe off hot water tank

Sorry idiot question but if I put a new 90 degree elbow on like the one you linked how do I take the grey thing further away? I think I understand you, you just mean turn the grey think when it's connected to that new 90 degree brass thing so it isn't sticking up -

Okey dokey. Here are some pics. The end of the red hose looks like this so I think has the inserts already. When removing the plastic pipe I can't get the brass bit off it as it has a bit of a lip on the plastic thing they fixes onto the tank and even cutting it I don't think would reduce the height much. So cutting it I think wouldn't work. Hmmm, not sure what to do. -

Any idea where I can source these from? I think the best option is going to be cut down the plastic grey bit, new olive and refit and see if that's made it lower. Or alternatively if this doesn't give us the height we need do what @Nickfromwalessuggested and fit an new elbow and move the grey thing further down as well. We made it home safely either way for now so need to do a couple of jobs before our next trip. -
Pipe off hot water tank
canalsiderenovation replied to canalsiderenovation's topic in General Plumbing
Yes you're correct. Our hot water is heated by the engine and the tank is a calorifier. Bigger and fancier boats have water heaters but not for us at 26.5ft. We also only have 12v (fridge is 12v and oven is gas). We have found 12v is fine for us even for a week away as the only real things we charge is our phones. -

A lot of you will know we bought a narrowboat, though this is a plumbing question and hopefully someone can answer as it's not too dissimilar to what's on a property albeit smaller. We had a bit of an incident just now when we couldn't get water - pump working no water from taps. We soon discovered the problem and the red pipe had come off the tank filling up part of the bottom with water (now removed and there was quite a bit)! The jubilee clip was a bit loose but the issue seems to be that this is under the seat area which pulls out to be the bed and the bottom of the bed is almost rubbing along the top of the grey plastic/red pipe which I think has contributed to it coming loose. We ultimately need to make the pipe bit lower as without quite a bit of joinery work to higher the bed/batons though for now we have just tightened the jubilee clips and pushed the pipe on more. Any suggestions please?

Very much so, not helped by the fact I had to run over 2-3 times to check it was clear the other way. The 'narrows' up to the basin/marina were challenging too as it was one way.

We used a lot in winter, granted we didn't have our external insulation and we were we doing a lot of getting use to our heat pump but over the past few months our consumption has been far less. We had insulation and render sorted in July and our heating has been off since June and our water has been done by the solar immersion thingy aside from a week in August so far when the solar hasn't done enough for the hot water we had our heat pump on. I suspect by the end of Sept we will need to have the heat pump doing our heating and hot water again as the solar will be minimal and we will need heating soon. March 992 (no EWI insulation/render) April 732.7 (no EWI insulation/render) May 494.8 (no EWI insulation/render) June 130.4 (no EWI insulation/render) July 113.4 August (as it stands today) 132.7 I suspect our consumption Oct-March will tend to be about 700-900 units a month.

Plonking stuff on!

Phew it's all in, had to come in through the window. Here's some pics of what it looked like before it was moved. We just need to try and sort through it all and get it hacked in. Odd couple of scratches we may need to get magicman to sort and then a worktop but we have a dressing room/walk in wardrobe!

Internorm Window Seals
canalsiderenovation replied to canalsiderenovation's topic in Windows & Glazing
They already established the issue, there is no screw it is missing so the handle outside was moving! One has arrived in now so the are coming to fit. -

Yes they are large windows, hopefully they can sort out the seals and then make some adjustments. -
Internorm Window Seals
canalsiderenovation replied to canalsiderenovation's topic in Windows & Glazing
I wonder if it's the metal things here as this lines up with the damaged seals. It's as if they are a bit lower so are catching, in which case all the windows are catching. -
We have the Internorm distributor coming back this week due to an issue with our sliding door handle coming loose. I noticed last week that one of the seals on the bottom of the window was pretty much ripped away and emailed to ask when they come if they can take a look at this too at the same time (no response yet). I've just been cleaning and noticed that on all but for one window the seals are ripped on all of our opening windows (at the bottom). The one it isn't damaged is our cloak bathroom which isn't opened much so probably has had less use but this just from use over the past few months. Obviously since the install in October/November and us moving back in we haven't had windows opened much until recently. It can't just be the size of the windows (some are big single pane openings) as it's happening on some of the smaller ones too. Has anyone else had the same problem with tilt and turn windows from Internorm? Something can't be right for it to happen to all 8 windows!

Bonkers idea or a great idea?
canalsiderenovation replied to canalsiderenovation's topic in Landscaping, Decking & Patios
The mesh was bought already galvanised then cut to size. The steel frame were second hand fence post again ready galvanised with fence brackets on (took 6 posts with off cuts left over). Dad made it all up and welded up in situ then just silver can car spray on weld joints, mesh screw on inside frame to secure, then all bolted in and fixed.
