LED tile trims? Not seen these before.
TheMitchells posted a topic in Electrics - Kitchen & Bathroom
I was looking online at tile trims for the ensuite that we are renovating. I am thinking that a square edge tile trim would be nice, to make a feature of them. however, I just saw these - LED square edge tile trims! Has anyone used them and are they any good? I am wondering how they are powered? Would they need a transformer somewhere?? Any hints on how I could use them to give a little wow factor in my fairly boring ensuite..... https://www.premiumtiletrim.co.uk/product/squarelight-led-square-edge-tile-trim-by-dural -
CT1 and/or Sikaflex for a shower tray installation?
TheMitchells replied to MAB's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
@Nickfromwales you recommend on this post, Ultra tilefix Pro primer. https://www.pureadhesion.co.uk/ultra-tile-proprime-it-enhanced-water-based-acrylic-primer-1-litre.html Can you tell me if you always use this and is it just to make sure the tiles dont fall off? we used Aquapanels on the walls and the Knauf website doesnt say anything about using a primer. is it 'belts and braces' or is it needed? thanks. -
CT1 and/or Sikaflex for a shower tray installation?
TheMitchells replied to MAB's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
We got our tray in too yesterday following the advice here. although we didnt use the primer.... Cringe....? seems completely set and no movement. Now just have to decided on which tiles to use - there is too much choice! Picture to follow..... -
shower trays - any recommendations?
TheMitchells replied to TheMitchells's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
we went for the Genisis 40mm tray (1600 x 900mm) and it is huge and weights a ton! goodness knows how we will get it up the stairs. all I know is that once it is down, it will not be coming back up again! I shall let you know what it is like once we get it fixed in place and start using it. We have to get the walls plasterboarded first and the drain hole made. then its ply, glued and screwed onto the floor before we can get the tray in. Maybe by next week......- 4 replies

Fabric vs bling
TheMitchells replied to Ed Davies's topic in Energy Efficient & Sustainable Design Concepts
when I mentioned RWH to an architect (in the good old days when I thought we had a plot...) he was quite dismissive of using them for the hosue toilets, even though he is veyr keen on 'eco' builds. he said in his experience with the few he knew, everyone said you spend more money on cleaning products as the toilet goes brown quicker and so it wasnt worth it. I would have liked it for the garden if nothing else but if we did it, it would be a homemade version with advice from here. -
Plasterboard or Aquaboard?
TheMitchells replied to TheMitchells's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
saw this at our BM and also their aquaboard - wasnt yellow so not sure if its the one recommended here. but Moistsure looked okay and was a little cheaper than the aquaboard. will get one or the other once I have decided on the tiles. Just to add to the decision making - I have been looking at those wall panels. that would be much less work for me; (I tile, he fixes wall panels....) but I'm not sure about their look. will have to take another look and make my mind up - tiles or boards. I know there are several fans of them here. -
Plasterboard or Aquaboard?
TheMitchells replied to TheMitchells's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Pictures to follow as we get started on it. shower is ordered, looking at shower trays now. will use plywood, glued and screwed on top of the chipboard floor, then the tray, with flexi tile adhesive, using @Nickfromwales's CT1 method of securing. then I shall start thinking about the tiles. I'm hoping it doesnt take as long as another bathroom renovation on this site......?? -
Plasterboard or Aquaboard?

What exactly do I ask for in the shop? and can I get them at any old BM? -
Plasterboard or Aquaboard?
TheMitchells replied to TheMitchells's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
so it looks like either; use green plasterboard and tank or use hardie or similar cement fibre baord and dont bother tanking. I think I'll got for the second option so I dont have to learn how to tank the room. I do recall @Nickfromwales saying its not as easy as it looks. thanks for all the advice. I'm sure I'll be back with more soon.?? -
shower trays - any recommendations?
TheMitchells replied to TheMitchells's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Screwfix sells this one - around the same price as the BM one. https://www.screwfix.com/p/mira-flight-low-rectangular-shower-tray-white-1600-x-900-x-40mm/7521x but there are no reviews yet. its stone resin which looks better than acrylic.- 4 replies

We are hoping the noise should be okay as the pump goes in the attic. Wasnt aware of the problem with cold water if stopped briefly. I am hoping that doesnt happen. Maybe its an older model - they certainly should not give cold shower! no matter how brief!

Plasterboard or Aquaboard?
TheMitchells replied to TheMitchells's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
sounds good - I just tile over it?? -
For the walls of the shower area, I planned to use aquaboards then apply tanking (Aquaseal waterproof tanking system) (https://www.bcprofiles.co.uk/aquaseal-wet-room-system-4-5m2-kit/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI3oHZyumk4AIVy7vtCh0FsgOqEAQYASABEgL0afD_BwE) . The shower tray will be set against the tanked walls using @Nickfromwales special method as on several other posts before tiling the walls. Do I need special waterproof plasterboard and if so, recommendations please? If not, can I use the cheaper green ones and just tank them well? thanks.

Okay, for our ensuite renovation - we have decided on the Aqualisa quart digital shower where we can have the control unit to the side of the enclosure so I can turn it on and off, without getting a wet arm. https://www.plumbworld.co.uk/aqualisa-quartz-digital-shower-concealed-qzd-a2-bv-14-2672-28388 So now, we need a shower tray. we are looking at 1600 x 900mm with a small shelf at the very end which I will tile. The room is 1660mm wide. Blanchards (my local BM) has a catalogue of QX bathroom Products which has a Genisis 40mm tray in the size we want, with a 5 year guarantee, http://www.qualitex.co.uk/Bathroom_PDF/index.html?pageIndex=200#p=204 They do have other types with a 10 yr guarantee but they don't come in 900mm wide. Has anyone any experience of these or any recommendations for better ones. The tray will sit on the floor and the drain will go straight down, through the ceiling of the kitchen, where the pipe will run on top of the kitchen units, into the SVP. That way, we dont have too much of a step into the shower.

-
its only about 40cm between the two so not a lot. this one looks suitable. I shall look for the Mira one too. https://www.plumbworld.co.uk/aqualisa-quartz-digital-shower-concealed-qzd-a2-bv-14-2672-28388

Thanks OnOff - much clearer now. and exactly what I'd like but the OH is still adament that he want digitial and as he will be installing it, I guess I have to give in on this one. At least I usually get my own way on the tiles....??. And I do like the look of your shaower - I may have to pinch that style. So - I'm off now to research digital showers. starting with Aqualisa.
-
@Nickfromwales- a couple of years ago you recommended one of these. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mira-Excel-EV-Thermostatic-Chrome-Mixer-Shower-1-1518-300-with-Riser-Rail-Kit/172225006185?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20140107083358%26meid%3D4f72a76edb6e4f279a0d46dff863a89c%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D302368407059%26itm%3D172225006185&_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850 would this be any good for us - and how would we have the control to the side, without the hose hanging across the gap??
-
So how do we fit something like Grohe mixers so that the controls are in the drier end. it is just a case of having the pipe work horizontal to the control unit? forgive me but I am not a plumber so keep the replies simple. The OH is far more knowledgeable but he wants to go digital......
-
It is gravity fed and old shower (NewTeam 1000) had a small pump in the unit which was noisy. this time, the OH wants any pump in the attic to minimise noise. Are we okay adding a pump into a thermoststic unit system without draining the tank? The Newteam was certainly okay for us pressure wise but we dont want the pump in the unit.
-
Can I resurect this post as the OH and I are disagreeing with what type of shower to install in our en-suite? He likes the digital Aqualisa ones as the gubbins can go up in the attic above the shower and the controls can be at the drier end of the shower so we dont get a wet arm, turning it all on. Which we all agree is worth doing.? However, I am reluctant to go digital as its just something else to break down and I would like an ordinary thermostatic shower with the controls in the drier end. we are going to put in a tray across the end of the room 900 or 1000 x 1600mm with a 1000mm fixed glass screen, leaving 600mm for entry on the right. I have been reading as many posts on this subject as I can but the question I'd like to ask is which shower to go for?? Digital or another system? The hot water tank is in the airing cupboard, to the right of the right hand purple wall. there is electricity in the attic above the room and currently, the hot water comes up from the floor and the cold down from the attic (cold water tank is in the attic). we dont want to use an electric shower but we do want a reasonable pressure. Its a gravity fed system says the OH.

Our CT1 went yellow after a few months so I was a little disappointed. I shall try a bit of bleach on it to see if it improves. We are starting to renovate the en-suite so will try out the Forever White stuff.

Shower drain, help required, please.
TheMitchells replied to TheMitchells's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
sorry about the delay in replying. we have both been full of cold so not doing a lot at all. I am not sure what measurments you would want @bassanclan. But the kitchen idea seems the best and as mentioned above, it means we can build in an access to it. so thats the way we plan to go. today is all about getting the old shower stuff taken to the tip and getting the shower tray out - its pretty heavy. then we can clear the whole area ready for new plasterboard/new downlighters and I think the OH wants to plaster the ceiling. All the ceilings in the house are artexed and while it doesnt bother me at all, apparently the OH hates it! and i still have to plan the new tiles. I havent decided on a look yet. Thanks for all the help!
