Thanks for that, am strongly thinking of cavity batts(250mm) imagine would add to sound insulation inside the building but can see the convenience of beads.

So you would go with beads again on that basis.

Have heard of pigeons nesting under the frame mounted panels though not seen it. Very true I guess. Are the trays mounted direct to rafters or battens/counter battens?Great to hear the savings were as much as that.

Sounds like a lot of extra expense.

Would like to go for integrated pv panels for 2 reasons, 1 think they look better and 2 less slate to go on the roof thus reducing the cost. Recently been told that integrated panels do not perform as well due to overheating as there's no air travelling at the back like those risen off roof on frame. How much better do those mounted on frames perform and anyone here go the integrated route?

Hi, Initially we were going with a pitched roof but settled on a hip instead(think it looks better). Has anyone vaulted a hip roof if so was there much involved? The kitchen/living area to be vaulted.

Have posted on here a couple of times in past but never introduced myself(that I can recall) so here goes. Name's Tom, have a Mrs and 3 teens. Have recently received planning for house below. Will be going direct labour while doing certain elements of the work myself. House will be block built with 250mm cavity, wet dash walls, 3g windows, mhrv, uf heating off willis, pv panels facing southeast and southwest. Will have loads of questions over the duration, some will be silly but I know you are a patient lot. Located in Ireland BTW.

Ultimately it will be the engineer who makes the call but I would like to be in a position to offer alternative ideas incase he offers a potentially over engineered solution which will add more cost to project. I'll throw up a sketch at some stage tomorrow. The kitchen/living area is 34ft×17ft.

Hi all, In planning stages for new build bungalow and was wondering if any of you who have a 200mm plus cavity used 4" blocks for inner leaf or had to use 6" blocks or 4"block on flat. Reason I ask, have heard with a wide cavity and a vaulted ceiling the chances of the roof pushing out the 4"block on edge ad it wouldn't support the roof load? Pitch roof BTW.

Thanks guys, I was not aware of the roofing options you mentioned. The nulok is something that interests us, there is currently no insulation in the roof so I am guessing we would have to fit between the rafters like recoveringacademic. Just wondering what the roof build up would consist of from outside in then, tile(nulok) galvo sheet 50mm vent gap? Insulation? Would condensation still accumulate on insulation side of galvo sheet? Hi all, First time poster here. Am currently renovating a mid terraced house with an extension. There is a mono pitch roof with an 11deg pitch and flat tiles( i know its mad) approx 25x17'. We would like to re-roof(possibily fit some roof lights)but cannot go higher to increase the pitch. Currently there are a few water stains on ceiling hence reason to re-roof. Could the roof be converted to a flat roof or am I mad? If so what is the best covering bearing in mind we don't have telephone numbers to play with.
