Fantastic score there. You have skills to repair that, bloody eck id not know where to start. Mind you I couldn't use the thing even if it was working. I'd need 11 pages just to switch it on. I had thought of a good thread title in the BH 'lounge'.. "Best 4 things ever bought?" a quite interesting all-encompassing thread from niknaks to well houses perhaps, I thought as an idea. I bet this would be your no.4. (I also thought of another one.. "3 times you nearly died?" but could include illnesses, so maybe not. The idea for it was one of mine: listening to Peter Cook spieling away on my car cassette, we nearly drove off a cliff into the sea due to laughing- driver contorted/ in tears, couldn't see the road. JeesusH.) Anyway back to my shelves, back down to earth. Zoot.

A nice long shelf above the two.. & Im sorted for now. PeterW much appreciated/ great cheap find & able to do a super fast job. Ideal. Zoot.

Done a blitz job. For £32 its great, bins especially. It is quite "my first tool kit" aged 10! But sure tidies things up. The blue pegs annoyingly coming away with the tool tho/ not wedged in well, so alot of araldite work to do. It'll do for now & over time I can plan properly a proper diy osb/ nails hanger job I think with ideas from here. ProDave an oscilloscope? Groovy. One thing I need but far out of £reach, & would only use very occasionally. Thanks chaps. On to the next job.. & its a big'un! So buckle up chaps. Gulp. Zoot.

Here's link again.. not certain it can do my sloped roof. But a bit ambiguous wording may suggest possible-? https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07VD9VCW2/ref=pe_27063361_485629781_TE_item @PeterW And my roof pitch again here.. Thx zoot .

@PeterW All flue bits here today including roof johnny (& my placcy wall boards via UPS.. like xmas day here!). Now then your amazon roof rubber johnny.. can this be used on my angled roof? I thought the concertina part of it facilitated this.. but more rigid than expected, & isn't actually a concertina I find. Thanks zoot.
-
@Cpd That looks great. I think cpd wins the BH 'best workshop' cup.. some pots even levitating too (upon magnets I guess). So many flippin tools! My placcy wall boards already here, amazingly. Any issue adding to plasterboard ? (with typical wallboard rawl plugs). Im not sure what load you can add like so, only having hung pictures so far. zh
-
@Roys Hi there. Another fine workshop.. yes I do like the painted ply too, I might follow this idea/ joe90's. I've bought PeterW's placcy suggestion, plus another similar black/ blue from same place tho not entirely sure what it is, but so cheap nevermind. Will update with progress. Thanks all. Zoot

Hi chaps, great photo eg's/ excellent workshops.. actually workshop in general doesn't look so bad amongst this company. I went to Lidl but don't have much if anything tool related/ shop not a huge one. Shame, those would be ideal. Peter this looks a fab find! £15?! Right thats a definite, whatever exactly it has. Small bins are ideal for me too. So I think as the pro hole walls plus the costly hangers are a bit much.. I might go J's idea of diy OSB simply with nails. Though could I fashion some hangers for the holey pro board things, out of coat hangers-? I'll get this, & go from there.. fab help y'all. Zoot
-
@Onoff lidl? Well wel, that's ideal for the sidewall for sure & damn that's cheap too. I think maybe ours doesn't do tools though. But will go& see. Thanks zh
-
Hi Adam. That bott perfo looks ideal/ & size too is mostly what I need. So what then goes into the holes.. metal thingies specific to this particular board? Or a more general thingy. Its the thingies Im not so clear on/ hangers/ hooks is it I'm on about? I don't know. French cleat idea looks terrific, & if I had the time to make.. but I really need a quick fix/ board up to go. Appreciated. Zoot

No. But don't forget Tom Waits growling away too. Its got it all SAS.
-
@ProDave Aha got it. Now Im fully on board! Fancy that. After only 11 pages. Boid protect wire is a good idea, I asked my builder to shove some in my house main cowl.. but never had thought to do on this. Very easy access just a step ladder hop/ up onto roof.. once my blackbird's fkd off & fledged that is. So cold today Id have put the bloomin stove on I think. So I must then need a specific chinahat for my twin wall, the hat having an inner & outer pair of walls ( but without foam between) then these two fit down & slip over the twin wall, to cover -its- exposed foam.. it can only be. Then a clamp band. Finally got it! If I hadn't established this I'd have wasted a fair bit of ££'s going my cheapy way. So £200 for the 4 pipe bits inc two band clamps, & including PeterW's Chimfit roof jobby = a £chunk, but could be worse. Thanks. Zoot.
-
Hmm.. Id better double check, but afaik it joins with a band/ clamp. Ok Im ordering.. thanks. zoot.
-
Hi SAS.. thats useful thanks, & confirms my logic. So just need to check any other reason I cant get a cheapy 5" one.. & done. Sorted chaps, thanks.

Anyone know how a cowl fits onto a flue? @ProDave perhaps? The general way sections fit to the next, it seems, is the upper one is slightly smaller sliping -within- the section below. I think the reasoning being ease of access to adding joint paste (I cannot think of another reason.. as if smoke rises, it would seem logical to me to have the lower section slipping within the upper.. but access to add paste is more difficult). If this is the general rule, then the cowl also slips -within- the section below. But rain falling means this seems illogical. Thanks, zoot
-
Yup.. this idea would save me £30 (the hats actually £22 once you specify 150mm... the £3.95 figure is disingenuous). So Im on the same page as you as it were. But would one of these fit my twin wall is the Q. Thanks zoot.
-
Because apparently I need a 4" cowl, according to the company ( info of which I cannot make immediate sense of )... plus... the product info says "our xyz bits are only compatible with each other" on each bit bookmarked to buy. But I might just simply need a 5" cowl. Because the outside ( 4" twin wall flue ) diameter is 5" And so the company is wrong, & im right. That just cannot be likely. zh
-
Im needing clarity here in fact. If I have 4" twin wall top section, the cowl, one would assume, would go on the outside. Not tucked into the inside. Anyone know if this is correct? Now I know I have -one- metal locking band " spare " ( both my adaptor, & my twin bit come with one locking band each, & the adaptor > single flue area push fit... so I have one band spare. I think). So I can use this to clamp a cowl to my twin wall top -IF- that is, the cowl fits over the outside. If the outside diameter of my 4" twin wall, is 150mm ( known to be )... do I therefore, simply need a 5" cowl? If this is so ebay ones £16. And I could save £34. Any ideas?

Hi J. That's a damn good idea! Im thinking maybe go sensible/ lump it & buy the £50 cowell now. I miscalculated & its £200 all bits.. not £250. Im exhausted with calls & www searching. The issue's been getting the 4 bits compatible. Plus very few places actually sell 4" single AND twin. So you cannot take chance of 1 from here, next bit from there. It seems. And adding your idea to twin wall top... might not be so simple. If it was single.. I'd go with your idea. Jeepers this has been a trial. Hoping the actual install will not be. Thx zoot
-
Hi chaps, hope y'all had a good easter. I'll go through the water wheel info/ replies/ natter later.. interesting ( mention of Dick strawbridge & my ears are alerted). Buying my flue sections today. Thanks PeterW for roof collar suggestion- buying today. Tricky to get compatibility of sections. A battle! Thanks, zoot.

You can't have the BH shame cup, & the BH longest ever ever thread cup too. So greedy.
-
Hi J. Good q.. I can with a slight stretch. Made my tops fairly deep. I see your point it'll be annoying to stretch. The idea of the perf board stuff, plus whatnots you insert, isn't quite the affordable idea I thought. Im still trawling tho. So your idea here of an added sheet of ply & diy tool hangers, might be the sensible option. I do like the ease of popping in hanger whatnots wherever you choose to a holed perf board though.. it's sort of future-proof, if maybe not such a cheap idea. I'll trawl www over the wknd. Thanks chaps. Zoot.

Hi TBC. Well thing is partly I make my living in here, so the benches are as good as I want, but not the top here: with tools all in a bunch pushed to LHS I'm always digging about for a file or s'driver & so much swearing ensues. Im not doing my new workshop & new benches (both I made) justice. I saw this basement, on the tv show, so well organised & lit.. & got major yearnings for something similar. Even a french horn hanging up. Can't find a www photo eg of it tho. Thanks, zoot.

Hi Linto that's another two words I can use to search. Thanks alot. zh.
-
@Carrerahill Hi there that's useful to put a name to it thanks, perf board/ yup its this stuff indeed. I'll searc screwfix etc with these two words. What I need is a bigger 1400 x 80mm ( or so) 'perf' board. But are the hanger things specific to each Co's holes I wonder? or maybe a general standard " perf board Hammer Hanger" thing for eg, you buy & stick in.. Im just after the most cost effective way. Maybe if I wait someone might have done similar & recommend an eg. The hanger addition things seem likely the dearest part. Thanks, Zoot.
