  1. [I still can't seem to get notifications in my email inbox, of any reply.. can someone tell me how?]
  2. Great! ok that's a plan.. hope I find this void fingers x'd. Right, so I need some more info on doing the kingspan + 9mm p'board job: Is there any thread you know of, or link to someone perhaps doing a similar job? I get the principle, but in still practise not clear enough to start. I really need to gather the info today if I can on this idea > to maybe start this week. For eg, how are both materials attatched to wall faces? what do I do re. the wall 'in' bits around windows? & going around the plug sockets:, or is it a Q of removing these & attatching to the new face 1" fwd? once done.. do I need to then get a plasterer in, & before the new worktops on?
  3. Coving.. ok will rip out, but is it easy to fit new stuff? or what's your suggestion/ not replace at all? What I don't know about Peter re the insulate job, is apart from 1" celotex (I know what this stuff is) is how it fixes onto plaster > then what goes on the face of it (assuming s'thing does to then tile or paint etc onto) > what do i do about the two sockets, & then the window areas.. Although I have no idea about this job whatsoever.. I am pretty sure I could do it fairly well. Another Q: is the idea to remove these units to do the whole wall with insulation.. or to leave in situ/ insulate wall areas above & around only..
  4. Chaps- I'm thinking of doing a 'proper' job first: ie, add insulation to inside walls (2 walls to do only/ 2 adjacent to EXT). Would you be kind enough to help me on this? I'm thinking 1", 2" will lessen INT size too much. These 2 walls in pic 1.. I've also got foam ceiling corner curve things as you can see.. should I rip out, or (as mostly firm) leave in place/ keep/ work around? thanks.. zoot
  5. Ok progress/ renovation underway: worktops here, knots all over I wasn't expecting.. but for £30 I can't complain- homebase VG to me too. 1) Ceiling paint stripped to bare plaster. I must now think about adding to the walls with 1" or so of insulation etc (before I strip walls/ a terrible state, a heck of alot of work to prep). Only 2 walls adjacent to exterior: sink wall, & laptop wall. The other 2 have two adjacent small rooms: behind. All 3 rooms within the simple square 80's single story extention, w'pitched roof (insulation added/ job done last year to loft above all). I need info on the insulation/ wall addition job if you would chaps.. I'll weigh up if its in my skillset to attempt then. I guess it does mean taking out all the units these 2 wall sides? Thanks, Zoot
  6. Joe90 a gentleman you are, thanks/ just as I would do, a photo of a sketch much easier to visualise than a pc image. All makes alot more sense now I can see this & sort of what I thought of after your suggestions. I think this (sketch B) might be just the ticket: but others' opinions would be welcome before I go with this as final idea. What I'll do is pass this onto my builder.. he'd never heard of groundscrews, at a guess maybe a recent 'invention' of sorts for him. He & I could do easily I'm sure.. but prefer if a pro on board with me/ alot (in my world anyway) being at stake to sit ontop.
  7. So are we talking leave slope as is, fire in three biggest 850mm GS's right in so they protrude a normal ~ 6" or so.. then add a really major HD pier on top: & as much as 1m would be ok? what about somesort of cross braces to fix across from the top of the timber piers up from the low sides, to the other (high side) GS top points?
  8. In principle the Gscrew idea seems the best.. but its just this considerable slope which concerns me, & the ground bank above the close stream in which the 2 lower/ prob ones will go is hard now.. but usually soft & not so stable. IE unless, I'd surmise, I can whack an enormous depth screw in these 2 low ones (or 3 probably sensible) of say I don't know 1.5m in.. then I'm not so sure. *I wonder if I should be considering, from a sensible pov, putting in a retaining wall barrier > levelling off the slope as best I can -FIRST- before then putting in Gscrews? what do you think? I can only envisage some sort of concreted-in posts, maybe those HD concrete H-shaped posts (?), then slotting in barrier sections (again what concrete again?).. then pulling the soil across with a pick/ hard work. I don't know enough about loads/ basic xyz pressure pooints enough to forumlate an answer. I MUST do this right, once, even if its a bit OTT (this will give me peace of mind).. but not so OTT as to being £1k+ or more (with piers ontop) Ive been quoted. I really neeed opinions on whether this * idea is sensible, stupid, not needed, OTT.. any opinions if you please.
  9. I can get a mini digger in (but wouldn't even a 1 ton small one bodge up my new lawn??). So tell me about your telegraph poles, as these I saw this exact cabin I have in mind sat on at my friends' place.. albeit not on a big slope. How are they fixed into the ground? how deep are they into ground? what load have you got ontop? how many/ on periphery square, like my idea?
  10. Many thanks for replies chaps (took a few days off- needed a break form n'bor probs). All info taken on board & considering. Alot of options.. its a Q of choosing the -correct- one for the ground I have. The thing Im concerned about is why the builder I had here to weigh up his opinion 'easy- mini digger > holes > concrete 40cm sq blocks > piers [I do s'how] on top // Quote: £900'.. doesn't chime with any of the suggestions here. That concerns me (seemed little consideration- just 'trust me- I have 40 yrs experience') his suggestion, who am I to disagree with being not even a building novice??
  11. Im giving the ArchC chap a wide berth tbh at the mo: last time I heard from him he was a bit uppity demandeing 1/3rd of his final fee.. I will get current PP position, somehow myself. There are only a few builders artound here. Ive approached them, but so busy I can't get them to follow up on a quote without obviously them getting a bit grumpy (as I havent got a clue what Im doing/ how to/ what to do). What is an LA? Calling a building officer again, he said "once Im about to start, ask us to 'come out with a form'..". well I did this before, guy came out, but said "I wasn't ready for a form". for chrissakes man. What "Form" is this?? what on earth do I have to fill out?? do I then have to wait 6 months for this form to be something'ed/ replied to?? this is an absolutely absurd process. You can tell how frustrated I am.
  12. Thanks for replies chaps- took a few days off/ needed after my n'bor probs. Back on board. Not perfectly square ended.. what the 60cm W relative to the L.. or are you talking about the 26mm H relative to the top? Good point about the shallow depth.. those "culdesac" rout shapes + those clamp things are just not right with 26mm tops, is that correct? Do you suggest a 45* join then, if, the mitre-join is n/a now? Useful these Howdens catalogues.. Ive got a colour plan for both walls, tiles, & cupboard colours to go by from the glossy pics. Buying tap today, so I'm off to a start. Still cant decide on a sink.. need a big bowl same as old one now, but dims of bowl seem n/a. Thanks alot- ZootHornRollo
  13. The thing is, I have had an 'architectural consultant' on board from the start as the 1st plan was -2- stories.. I dont think it stupid to have gone to this pro for this more "complicated" designA. The re-designB was the lower story.. basically a 4m sq box + pitched roof: I still had the AC on board (I mean how could I not have?) who then (so far as I was aware the correct thing to do) redesigned it, probably in 15min flat > submitted a 'revamp PP' with my £30 fee. I have no idea whether I've done anything whatsoever correct, in any of the stages/ people to have gone to- anything. As much as Id like to start again, with your help instead, I dont think I can/ I feel stuck with this AC who has already pressed me for 1/3rd his 'final fee' of ~£2K. Then the damn bat survey was an utter ripoff for 2 hrs 'work' @ £650 (2 eco hippies walked once round house, a few pics, then sat in a car for 90mins). He's not bad, or a conartist/ he knows his stuff, & nice guy whom Ive chatted to a good few times (without understanding much of what he says).. but I dont know if he should be on board at all, so, I have a feeling (as he can see Im lost at sea) he just sees me as an easy buck stringing xyz out. So I have the designB. But no word from the PP. I can only get ballpark figs as to cost of designB, I've tried all the builders I can, & none gave me a quote, I'm still waiting 6 months later in effect (now you see why I just cant cope with it all/ whole thing put on backburner).
  14. Ok thanks for this. I cannot though, make sense of.. If your extension is located within 2 metres of a boundary of your house, the eaves height of the extension cannot exceed 3 metres. If your extension is within 2 metres of a boundary of your house, it cannot exceed 4 metres in height. (Eaves.. are they effectively the gutter line on a pitched roof?). As I said, PP is n/a now.. Ive gone past this stage. I think. Whether or not I need it (I dont think I ever did/ this info above contadicts what a building officer told me.. adding to all the confusion) I have submitted an amended form. I dont think I ever got an answer as that was well over 6 months ago. I just couldn't cope with the process by this stage/ gave up. Now tho- I need this flaming extention made by hook or by crook. I have to somehow try & make sense of how I can get it built.
  15. I have one, but he's a heck of alot £more than all the others. As its such a simple box, that tbh I find the idea of even approaching an architect about (tho I had to, to do the original idea.. didn't I? Ive no idea..) this re-evaluated plan, is embarrassing. I have no idea if I needed an architect to begin with, what an 'architectural consultant' is, whether he was the 1st person I was meant to contact (& not a builder). Nothing. Total clutching at straws as to what or how to do. As far as I know, I am past the PP stage. I dont know if this is correct, but in order to proceed (to do what next tho I have no idea) I must assume either I have PP for the ammended box, or its not needed.
  16. Well, no. I got PP for the 1st idea, the 2 storys. I had to get PP for this, apparantly. Then once the quotes came in I couldn't afford them & I had re-ebaluate the whole plan to a 1 story box: then resubmit an 'amended' form- I was told to by the PP dept. So whether or not I need PP, now, or then, is n/a.. I assume(?). I have no idea is my answer, like every single facet of this damn process. Why on earth there isn't a step by step guide, even on the www.. I mean for gods sake. Im so sick of not knowing anything Ive been tempted to just build the sodding thing myself without any experience. Its a 4x4m box built onto a wall. With a lid. A year on now.
  17. Ok so is joining these 26mm tops.. any different to the mitre/ parson's nose whatever it was.. ie as before?
  18. I think one shall be wear a large mannappy with one's 'leccy blanket. Now where was I.. kitchens yes. Ive harranged Homebase to ruddy well pull their finger out & get 3 of the acacia wood tops into breacon store pdq > then post to me @ £20. Great/ progress- 1st step! does mean I'm going to have to paint the damn doors etc tho... to much wood make me go crazy in the heat already. So Im think cream doors w' new handles/ wood tops/ cream-white tiles (those nice slightly reliefed 'brick-shape' ones) ~light green side walls/ racing green opposite ends.. all white-walls in house at mo. New hood/ redo lino.
  19. Hi- Ive got PPermision for a box extention to my stone cottage. It was 2 smallish, 2 story, but unable to afford quotes. So I resumbitted for, (£30) for a simpler 1 story design. I was told to 'get architect > give plan to builder > get permission > build it'. But how am I meant to to have any idea of what it might cost, in order to submit even an idea to my architect? For eg I got plans > sent to builder.. but couldn't afford the quotes. So I'm back at sq1 with no idea how to proceed. Can someone tell me what the process is now, assuming I get permision for the revised, simpler single story? its just a box with a door + pitched roof. Ive already wasted £2k on architects I now know I probably didnt need (so simple a design it is) but had no idea I wasn't supposed to, + a bat survey I now don't need. Ive had no advice/ or wrong advice, havent got a clue what Im doing/ who to call/ what to do/ what the steps are/ anything.. so Ive given up, I just cant cope with it. There's no information out there in simple 'step-by-step' form, to tell me what on earth Im meant to do to get something built. I need to start again, & just finding this site: if only I could have found it before! thanks, zoot
  20. Can someone tell me how I can get notifications of a reply, in my email inbox? thanks
  21. Good advice newhome.. only reason Ive not bought one is they remind me of my parents in the 1970's &, of course, if one should wet oneself after a stiff tipple or two! they make me nervous. .no I really should do that you're right.. Im going to do the floor & ceiling with celotex stuff/. Also thinking of upgraded 44mm for the walls (std 28).. but worried about the added weight; Im told with 2x glazing as well a 3x3m 44mm wall log cabin = up to 1.5 tons.
  22. I don't have central heating. I have: a logburner for main bigroom, 1 tiny £5 fan heater in bedrooom, 1 'leccy wall heater in kitchen (ok but as room re. insulation so bad is next to useless, like putting it on in a huge fridge its gonna do next to nothing), 1 chrome wall heater in bathroom- the most hopeless thing: I barely even notice its ever on. I am freezing in this house like you wouldn't believe possible in 2018. I cant get any heat to radiate to above rooms from logburner, ridiculously, bc theres so much cold walloping down stairway (due to upper room walls as Ive explained) its beats the heat back, & enters main room, so, I put a curtain across stairway- partially successful to stop cold getting in yes, but means any heat at all that was due to go 'upstairs' is now not possible = permanently freezing upper rooms. One reason for doing the log cabin is that with wood walls it'll likely be warmer than any room in the house.
  23. Chrissakes I cant figure out if this was planted deliberately (I cant recall I did thats for sure) but on an old pic shows a small green patch where this exactly is, from before the fight with idiots. Can mint grow wild, & very quickly? It looks decidedly like it was potted before planted to me, as it lookslike compost around its fairly compacted roots..
  24. Hemp seeds from the fishing shop eh? now do tell me more on this..
  25. Crap pic? whddya mean.. slr. Its leaves smell of mint, defo not nettle. Are you suggesting it could be 'catnip' not mint? & what the c**k is catnip?
