  1. Yes he is. But its not called a zoo here.. its an 'animalarium' (true).
  2. But pumping out water in a trench, is understood (& to be done as there's 3" moat from last few days' showers).. but after which having an empty trench & then pouring on an average day even moderate rainy, is a different scenario to what I'm suggesting will happen friday..
  3. But Id only assume if such a day was forcast for that X site.. then the pour got rescheduled.
  4. I reassured by this, but look if 50-70mm hammers down during & after the pour it'll surely mix in.. I mean how could it not.. which therefore has to weaken the mix-?
  5. But should it be me to buy a sheet, erect a 20sqM tent on my own in driving rain & wind-?? they'll surely be a load of water coming off the middle 'island bit' the pour goes around, & in from the top.. I mean this is heavy 50-70mm all day rain: Ive rarely seen such a dire day of rain forcast in 3 years Ive been here. @PeterW
  6. Hi chaps. Got my extention foundations concrete pour expected fri, but looking at the weather its looks dreadful/ a hell of alot of heavy rain all day west wales. Is this of concern? As a client (no input in the build as such) am I in any position to query this chosen day? Damned annoyingly, it was meant to be poured y'day.. but my sod n'bors complained (for the umpteenth time at me/ only to instigate an official to knock on my door, police, council, env health.. anyone they can think of, mainly just to cause me stress of visit after visit after visit) this time the police knocking on my door: the excavated clay was being dumped in the forest you see & someone complained, tbh perfectly reasonable so to do if spread, & my builder has some jurastiction of the forest. It meant hours of rangling & landowners out & police had to be subdued, my builder furious with whoever called police (I know who as it follows a pattern as said) as it ruined the sheduled pour, & now I'll be furious if this wash-out friday pour instead will be compromised. And my sod n'bors happily grinning away watching. Its quite incredible how much stress 2 people have caused me over 2 years now, just with a phone. Zoot.
  7. G'day folks, my extention's started! so.. maybe I can ask help to form a plan for my electrics. Carrerahill's kindly outlined one (via PM) which no doubt is ideal but I'm not quite up to speed on some of the 'radial, rings' yet to picture it. What I need simply is: 1x overhead 'rose' light in upper room, 2x double sockets. In lower room, 2x double sockets, 2x strip lights (above workbenches @ side, but low ceiling). Consumer unit's in ideal spot, in my sit'room corner cupboard (modern rcd/ many fuses etc).. so I guess its drill thru wall behind > into extention? My builder's leaving me to do insulation, pB, electrics. So once he's built walls, door/ window, roof.. I can take my time on internal xyz. Thanks, zoot.
  8. for eg https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Grisport-72160CP-Brown-Leather-Steel-Toe-Safety-Boots-UK-6-5-EU-40-Made-In-Italy/323641930650?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908103841%26meid%3Dc31e5c9054734e489ce0aa854460c898%26pid%3D100227%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D13%26sd%3D401858679302%26itm%3D323641930650%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2054502&_trksid=p2054502.c100227.m3827
  9. My walk boots- no. I'm just saying I came across a 'next step up' Italian boot make GRI Sport (having hd usual types found in UK & always failed in 2 yrs) which also do steel toe work types.. Id bet hands down they'd be just better made/ last longer, & for not much extra cost as this ^ seller has seconds. an ebay boots-bargain walking or work/ just thought it might be a handy link.
  10. got my walking boots- really excellent quality/ blemishes unnoticed, fast post too. so I highly recommend this Grisport make (& ^ seller too) if you want proper quality boots to last that is.
  11. @Sensus thanks for this reply: very useful info I'll go over it again. I'm coming back to this thread (missed this ^ last post end august) at this stage to say I've just had permission granted, for the full balcony with steps. Great news & also I added 120mm to build on it too. Whether or not I'll afford the whole-hog design (+ steps) or just the balcony we'll see.. but major thanks to JSHarris for his input which undoubtadly helped my case. I think the PP officer was generous tbh Sensus: I get impression as I was very courteous & asked a few diligent Q's his way over the 1.5 yrs, he appreciated my efforts.. plus the majority it'll overlook is actually a horse field, the main reason. I am surprised tho! So I'll come back to this once the extention built.. but now I can get the french doors opening out for definite.
  12. I understand most wouldn't care to work this way, sure, but I have a very understanding Electrician/ friend in the village, who'll I'm very sure be fine with *me doing/ him test & certifying. So this is the furrow I'm ploughing (sorry I'll leave the PlanP stuff for yous to discuss as its too complicated for me). But is this* idea actually 'within the rules' sorry I'm not quite clear.. or.. is is not neccessarily but fine if my chap is happy-? thanks for help- zoot.
  13. Ok thanks ProDave- crikey another section I hadn't known of.. this place is BIG. @MrSniff I'm not quite sure on what you refer to.. but will ask my 'leccy chap these points. Many thanks- if anyone had a mo to dip into my "Zoots Electric!" thread (up soon) on this ^ section.. that would be great. thx zoot.
  14. Not a bad plan.. I'm sure Id be more welcome there than I am here, a bit anyway! @Carrerahill that's a good plan, I was thinking along these lines/ but sure he's got the neccessary experience in place if not known by the BCO who'll be dealing with the build (very small world here etc). I'll call him tonight. As to a pretty basic electrics design for my extention, is there a best place on the forum to ask general 'leccy Q's.. or this general build section?
  15. Ok great info last 2 posts Carrerahill, appreciated. Should I 1st be asking my pro chap then if he -is- "NICEIC or SELECT" register-capable (if you see what Im getting at).. rather than just assuming he might be?
  16. Aha roger that- thx Onoff. Whilst your there- won't there be insufficient load-bearing capability onto these two 'tagged on' back & front beams? I mean if the cabin load sits equally on the 4 walls: the side wall loads will push down onto beams (looong ones) > onto pillars & plinths/ fine.. but the front & back wall loads will push onto beams > brackets only: they have nothing below. The topside/ high two plinths I have two 1-1/4" thick (8x8) terracotta tiles to go under the corner joints, for my "risers". So the load here is ok/ pushing down on something below the beam. So its the streamside two points only of concern then.
  17. @Carrerahill ok thanks for that/ understand principle, which concurrs with what I thought -might- be a logical scenario (IE get in a friendly pro to oversee/ check/ last dibs). I have exactly the pro fits this bill to a T, who actually sees & impressed with my amp-making actually encouraged me to crack on myself & do my kitchen 'leccy work (no new wiring per se, but, a good exercise). If I can fit a shower, surely I can do a simple electrics plan for my extention. My pro understands my budget constraint/ means, & I feel he's on my side too. One thing differs here to most builds: its being built via a 'Build Notice' which afaict involves more visits by the BCO than usual method. Might this hamper my involvement? should I mention to the BCO of my plan even? or defo not. thanks- zoot.
  18. Hi Declan- getting prepped/ re-reading your steps (v.good of you). I get the 1st step above- but forgive my ignorance, how to clamp 1 to 2? Total wash-out scuppered any progress last week & this week too. gives me time to prep attack-plan tho.
  19. Hi chaps. If someone's doing a 'self-build' say block outbuilding or extention, & Building Regs are to be followed/ adhered to etc.. is it feasable to fit electrics 'self-build' too (if competent obviously) ? or do they always have to be outsourced to a pro in order to satisfy the BCO/ B'Regs? Thanks zoot.
  20. Looking for walking boots, I came across a seller doing italian (grisport) boots. some safety/ toe type. vg price. I saw this make in a local wales shop & well made/ a step up from usual UK jobs. item323641930650 see others they have. bought mine y'day from this seller.
  21. Update: got my Build Notice, done my build plan/ builder happy (no 'u-value' needed). BCO aware & happy with my Build Notice path taken. I'm just waiting on the balcony NMA (yes or no).. but effectively I've got green light to GO! So last step 20 hurdled, & can ask builder re. timeframe. Maybe he even gets the slab down soon. One thing I've yet to consider, electrics. Why so late? bc I'm going for a very simple plan (2 sockets in each room), from consumer unit in adjacent existing main room (handy). So advice if you would. I renovated my bathroom & kitchen including electrics (inc shower) no problem.. a damn sight easier my total rebuilding a '78 Fender Twin Reverb amp I can say!.. I'm capable of installing the sockets, with final checks by a qualified electrician (friend in village). Is this feasable/ allowed? the idea being to save £600 let's call it, by getting my chap to do the lot. Thanks- zoot.
  22. Hi @Onoff thats good of you- I now sort of understand the usefulness of it. But another £30.. & will I ever use again? just wasted £30 on this damn pillar & jeesesH.. totting approx costs up: I had -no- idea (let alone the complexity or work) its gonna be nr 1k. Its snowing me under again. We had a howling squall/ storm last night & I worry how this structure would've coped tbh too. I think I need a back 'brace' beam thing going from BFO tree behind to the back corner stream side, to stop any backwards movement. I guess the cabin secured down will help, rigidity etc, but alot of presssure will bear on the whole of this pillar-side from wind hitting the full front of the cabin, & the front roof overhang design won't help surely forcing it UP (& back RHS.) What form would two 45* brace after-additions take (onto 2x pillars etc)? I mean the way these 3 bits join, is surely integral to how much strength they will add to this 'weak' side.
  23. Ah ok. I thought its design/ function was just a more precise level you see.
  24. @Onoff was the idea of the laser level.. that it shines a full line across, so you can put a tape intersecting it from a distance away & it'll fire a spot on the tape? I'm trying to get why it would be more useful than a level, or why you might have suggested it.
  25. Sorry not understanding. Anyway look I didn't use one, I made a mistake by writing down a wrong figure/ a laser wouldn't have magically altered this, & I don't neccessarily need one if a level will do. It doesn't need to be super-critical level, its a used cabin with one side a tad loppy too, 'level' will do.
