Well a long morning today, 175 mile round trip and getting a little fed up. Saw two, both lovely machines but both not the spec they were advertised. One is supposed to be a 3t and was 2.6 (they even advertised the wrong model!!) and the other is supposed to be 3.5t and is 3.2. The first one is a hire place and the second a builder who bought from new, so I just don't get how they get it wrong. I've also noticed so many people quoting wrong operating capacities, advertising 2.5 or 2.7 as 3t machines

Cheers guys. I've emailed the neighbour and basically told him I can't see a solution. If they decide to go ahead, it will be clear that I cannot be responsible for the paving if it gets damaged
-
Cheers Redoctober. I honestly had no idea the pattern on the block would make a difference to the weight capacity
-
Thanks JSHarris, I appreciate the straight forward info Just out of interest, any idea what sort of weight should block paving be able to cope with?

I'm under a little bit of pressure from the neighbours who have finished building to allow the developer to lay the block paving access road. The problem is I obviously haven't started my build yet and probably won't for a few months. Does anyone know how much weight can be driven on a block paved road if it's laid properly? Cheers Vijay

Sold out online so went in store and got one. Will hopefully get a chance to test it out with a mixer this week. First impressions out of the box and I'm quite impressed

looks good, just looked up on Ebay - £300 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/mini-digger-log-splitter-hydraulic-log-splitter-jcb-8014-digger-grab-/191889187993?hash=item2cad7ca499:g:3cMAAOSw8aNXGUYD

Thanks dogman, for £30 it's definitely worth it then
-
Thanks dogman https://www.ter-europe.org/content/ter-check I guess it relies on people registering their equipment though

This might be of use? https://www.aldi.co.uk/2000w-inverter-generator/p/071156045900300?utm_source=Aldi&utm_medium=Email&utm_content=Product Image&utm_campaign=SpecialbuyEmail1stJulyA Any reason it wouldn't suit cement mixers and battery chargers?

how on earth do you know it's not stolen then??

What paperwork should come with a used digger? I assume there's an equivalent of a logbook?

My house is going green - mould on inside blockwork

so what causes it? -
I think I need to look into this a lot more as I didn't expect my architect to get the best solution but I just assumed (wrongly on my behalf cos I didn't think about it until AliG's post) that floor levels would be what they are and insulation thicknesses would be pretty standard. I've yet to start to things can be changed.

Just got back from looking at a nice 4.75t digger. My friend who uses plant machinery was very happy with it, no leaks and really smooth movements in everything. My issue was the tracks. I was told 40-50% life left but I personally wasn't happy with them as I would have said 30-40% if lucky but they had a hell of a lot of splits, which were especially noticeable when the digger was moving. At £800 a side plus fitting costs none of the " they've got plenty of life left in them" that the seller was saying sunk in.
-
I'm not sure to be honest, it's just the insulation that's been speced on my working drawings
-
Thanks guys. I'm actually happy to hear that it would be pointless. It was just an idea anyway and haven't had any prices yet. There's 225m2 of flooring to do, so a lot of blocks to get in place - but I'm happy to do it.

Is there a right time to build by the weather - it's June and look at the horrible weather we've had I'm kinda in the same boat and I'm just gonna start when I can and deal with what ever is thrown at me (or try to anyway lol)
-
what other maintenance is needed on a digger?
-
We were working to 0.11 but I'd like to get as low as possible if it makes sense (I'm just thinking of getting the house fabric as good as I can).

I'm having a beam and block floor on the ground floor (apart from the garage) and this is my floor makeup from top down: 75mm screed 500 gauge vapour barrier 75mm Celotex FF4000 150mm Celotex XR4000 1200 gauge visqueen radon barrier/dpm on blinding sand 150-225mm beam and 100mm Celcon blocks. My question is can I replace the Celcon blocks with an insulated block like Tetris or Jetfloor (or the beam suppliers own thermal block) but keep the other layers, so I'm basically increasing the floor insulation? I've yet to price it up but wondered if it's a good idea or will the difference be negligible? Cheers Vijay

With buried IBC's, would you need any sort of protecting wall or just literally bury them? Also, what sort of micron would the rainwater need to be filtered to on the inlet? Peter, you mentioned a 5 micron filter and a carbon filter, what are you intending to use the water for, gardens, washing cars, toilets? Cheers Vijay

That's logical, didn't think of that
