Pump me happy. That means the right slump. How?
Vijay replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF)
Only way around that is as others have said, hopefully finding a company who can supply concrete and pump -

From what I gather, it's not just the slump rate that has to be spot on, you basically want it to start setting as you go up - that way it helps to stop bursts as there is less pressure on the concrete at the bottom as it's already setting -

Very good point. I was looking to leaving them in permanantly. Do you get specific caps or is it a case of making something up and gluing it in place? -

Toolstation always seem to undercut Screwfix and free delivery over £10 -
is it important to leave a gap between the pipe and any surrounding studwork/plasterboard to stop sound getting through? Do you insulate around the pipe?

Going through exactly the same thing at the moment, trying to get quotes and drilling home that if the spec is off on delivery, the lot will be turned away. I think the only way of telling is with a slump cone -
When installing your drainage pipework through the floors, what space have you left between the vertical pipes and the internal wall (that would be built afterwards)? I assume you'd want to leave some gap for fixings but have it as close to the wall as possible so you can box around it?

I'm looking at running services soon (hopefully) and wondered if this is the right rope to use? What diameter would be suitable https://www.toolstation.com/search?searchstr=34370 13254 72179 49183 16672 13574 28845 is 6mm ok?? Vijay

Sometimes nightmares are real: the insurance story
Vijay replied to ToughButterCup's topic in Self Build Insurance
Absolutely would I go after the 1200 quid and I would be looking to Durisol for it unless their is reason their instruction was superseded by another in their manual. It's fine saying the builder should have common sense, but if he doesn't follow Durisol's instruction and something goes wrong, he would get blamed. Jamie is spot on that common sense should have taken over and your builder (and probably yourself too) should have thought hang on, that's not gonna stay up - but Durisol make that claim clear so who are you to question them. I totally get that you're gonna be one busy family now, but as the guys have said, it could be no more than a few hours work in total for £1200 and pay for a piece of equipment in your house. After all, I'm sure for 1200 quid Durisol won't want the bad publicity too.- 70 replies

I think you're right about it being wrong but not much I can if they say it's right Do you have a link to the form you were told to use?
-
I emailed them back questioning it as it looked aimed at developers and not self builders, they replied "This is for self builds as well as for developers fill the form in for infrastructure and state for 1 premises and then go from there." - so that's what I ended up doing

Ian, what did Durisol say to that??- 70 replies

Is it this form that needs to be filled in for a telephone line? https://www.formwize.com/run/survey3.cfm?idx=505d0400000f0d

I feel for you Ian I really do. I've read your posts including this one and it certainly feels like you know what you need to do. I firmly believe the DIY route is a good one but as others have said (and I'm finding out), taking on too much takes its toll and you definitely need to find time to relax if you do indeed take things on yourself. Good luck with what ever you decided to do - go with your gut feeling I reckon Vijay

Discount Offers of the Week

What's the voucher for though?? -
So JSHarris has has BT master socket in the utility room (which I never though of). Did you just run the ducting to there and in through the floor or did BT have any say in the matter?
-
So any suggestions where water and BT should be ducted to? I assume BT would be the hallway and water could be kitchen/utility or garage?
-
I completely understand your thinking, but if things are in ducting, surely it's easier to replace pipes/wires without digging much up. Plus the beauty of cheap long length endoscopes surely helps
-
But what's the realism of having to dig up the drive as long as drawstrings are left in? For what reason would it need to be done? Gonna run an extra 2 or 3 ducts for electric cable/lighting/intercom for front gate Not overly keen on an external cupboard but certainly better than meter boxes!
