Hi Nod, I think I'll just do the gas in 150mm then as I don't really want an issue further down the line, especially as there's a bend towards the end The water is a gentle curve so I may just do that in 50mm as I'll be pulling that cable through. Anyone have any idea about insulating the water pipe, could I just use something like Armacell? http://www.jtmplumbing.co.uk/insulation-c555/armacell-armaflex-class-o-selfseal-pipe-insulation-c204/armacell-selfseal-armaflex-class-0-insulation-all-2-metre-lengths-pp10736?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_term=armacell-selfseal-armaflex-class-0-insulation-15mm-x-9mm-armaflex-15m-armaflex-15mm-x-9mm-x-2mts-co-09x015-a&utm_campaign=product%2Blisting%2Bads&gclid=Cj0KCQjwsNfOBRCWARIsAGITapZk1nWn8_uacACrESkZfnKO3xhKVzl6ljt6fd4rtNIlpdl-OfqrIdkaArU1EALw_wcB in which case I'd get larger ducting
-
Was told 38mm if I went for single phase
-
That won't work for me as I don't even know if I'll have gas - but I want to lay ducting so I can if I choose at a later date

Had the gas guy round yesterday who was pretty laid back with everything apart from having the gas meter under the stairs is a big no no for fire safety and gas pipe has to rise externally and enter horizontally through a wall - fair enough. One thing he mentioned was having 150 gas ducting saying that anything smaller is useless for getting pipe through, so that got me wondering if that's true for gas and the other services. How have people found getting pipework through ducting? I'm pretty sure I've read posts saying make sure everything is twin walled so pipework will go along the smooth inside - but what about ducting diameters? Duct runs are approx 30-35 metres. Water is 32mm Gas is 32mm Electrics is 3 phase so been told I need to use 125mm ducting Telephone - as supplied by BT (which looks to me 50mm semi rigid pipe that I connect together) Extra x 2 Also he said I need to use perforated gas duct which is OK, but for what purpose do they sell un-perforated gas duct? I need to insulate the water pipe where it comes into the house and under the B&B floor (approx 6m) but what do I use? Lastly, I'm ducting everything as it goes under the drive and will leave drawstrings in all of them. So should I still use tracer wires on some/all of the pipes/ducts? Cheers Vijay

No, BG subbed it out to Fulcrum. Yep, that's exactly what I found when I looked at the calculator. Plot 3 is mine in the 1-4......
-
Morning Peter, I wasn't aware of one but just Googled it - did you mean this? https://www.britishgas.co.uk/consumption-calculator.html That's been half the problem, BG have bounced it to Fulcum who deal with the install who tell me there's no gas pipe (even though BG paid them to do it and it is there). Fulcrum then bounce it back to BG - and there's my continuous circle I believe there is a 63mm pipe which I have been told would be a mains gas line (paid for by the developer). That is then branched off to the 4 plots and that's the connection I'm trying to deal with. Maybe not but I would like to get ducting in place in case I do, which as I said would only be for a combi boiler. I think it makes sense at this point to install ducting cos I wouldn't want to pull up the drive

Morning, Has anyone ever come across any official new gas install rules and regs? I'm having an absolute headache with the gas companies who've gone from telling me it's no problem, to there's no gas line to my serviced plot, to now there's a gas line but you might need an upgrade. Finally on Friday I spoke to a lady in British Gas who has pushed things forward for me and got an engineer to call me and is coming to site this week. He was very friendly and helpful on the phone but when I asked him if there were any documents he could send me or give me a link to, he said it's what he knows from working in the field for 20 years. One guy told me I would need to upgrade from a U6 meter to a U16 because it's a large house - but that can't be right as it's got to be down to how much equipment you run on gas surely. I'm hoping my new home will use a hell of a lot less than my current house due to insulation and build. Next guy told me I would need the upgrade if it's over 23m from the mains gas line to the meter as the max output of a U6 meter is 60KW and would loose pressure over 23m. Could anyone shine any light on this as I don't want to be "sold" an upgraded meter if I don't need it. I only plan to have a gas boiler (which is there for a backup really) and hob will be induction. Cheers Vijay

would 10mm shingle do as I have a bit left over from doing the drainage? Does anything need to go under the ducting??
-
for you pencil losers http://www.axminster.co.uk/c-h-hanson-retractable-pencil-pull-101888
-
Sorry, I should have made myself clearer, I meant colours for the extra/spare ducting Does the ducting need to buried in shingle like drainage or is it just buried in the ground/clay??
-
What extra ducting did you guys fit? Did you bother with a specific colour for it? Also, is it right to use perforated gas pipe? Where would unperforated be used? Trying to get an answer out of the service providers has been like pulling teeth

Can I use plastic air vents under the floor or does it have to be terracotta? I can only imagine it would be an issue for rats but they can't exactly go anywhere -

even if it's on a bottom course with a block over it??? -
Air bricks - min height off ground?

Cheers Nod. I've got about 20 to do so would be much easier to do it with air bricks. Or is there any reason I couldn't use an air brick vertically?? -
I need to install air bricks into the internal rising and sleeper walls and wondered if there is any reason I couldn't put them in the bottom course, so directly on top of the foundation concrete? Cheers Vijay

No problems if they just said that, it would be a reasonable excuse that I wouldn't argue with
-
Well Western Power refuse to let me have the meter box inside the house (unless it's on an external wall). There first reason was access to the pipe and when I said it would all be ducted, they suddenly started saying it's cos of the length of the pipe run under the house (B&B floor) will cause the main fuse to keep blowing. I argued asking what the difference was with it being buried for an extra ten meters but they just wouldn't have it, computer says no!!! So looks like I'll have to dig another trench to get the electricity duct over to the garage which is damn annoying!

so ugly on the wall or ugly on the floor seem to be the only options lol
-
I can only find semi buried ones like this https://www.strukta.co.uk/building-materials/meter-boxes/meter-box-ground-semi-buried-gas-brown
-
Just Googled them - bloody ugly ain't they!!!!
-
Has anyone managed to have a gas meter installed inside or is it a safety thing that they are always installed outside, in case there's a leak?
