Nope, we never open windows. -
As the title suggests, we have recently experienced a sudden loss of airtightness which was manifesting as internal doors that had been left ajar slamming shut as others were opened or closed. Mystery now solved as to why, but the question is, what was causing it? Answers on a postcard below...

My architect suggest this for a family home, thought

Reminds me of an old Odeon cinema. -
We had to put in soakaway crates, lots of them, despite being on fairly free draining land. Complete ban on connecting to existing surface water drains here, never mind discharging surface water to foul drains. Ridiculous thing is that the surface water drainage adjacent to our property discharges to a stream less than 200 yards away, and that runs direct to the sea. Edited to add: Not that any of this stops Southern Water from discharging effluent into the Solent 🤬

Maybe you need to think about it more 🤔

Hi Mike, it was originally suggested that speed 2 was 'normal' but we've found, through trial and error, what works best for us. Air quality was the main objective for the house due to Mrs NSS's lung conditions, and so far as any monitoring is concerned, her lungs know when the intake filter is close to needing changing. We have the Paul Novus 300. Pic of the control panel below.

Five years in we've experimented with different settings and settled for a summer programme and a winter programme. In summer it runs on speed 2 (of 4) from 7pm to 7am and speed 1 from 7am to 7pm. In winter we reverse that. If we have a particularly hot spell, as earlier this year, then we up the night time speed to 3. Summer bypass is programmed to avoid heat recovery when outside temp exceeds 20C. Speed 4 (boost) is reserved for the likes, for example, of when cooking fish and runs for 60 minutes unless manually stopped. In all bar boost mode there is no perceptible noise in the house. We never open windows, and doors are seldom open for more than a few seconds.

PM sent 👍🏻

Thanks TBC, very much appreciated, but hold fire for 24 hours, please. I messaged a a few mates earlier today and one has just replied to say he thinks someone he knows may have one. I'll PM you when I hear back.

Evening TBC, that would be amazing. Don't know anyone who frequents your neck of the woods, but very happy to cover courier cost each way, plus to provide a security deposit and to add a 'drink' for your trouble. 👍🏼

I do, but I won't divulge anything about them at this stage. No point until I have evidence.

... that they'd be willing to lend/hire out, please? Daughter and SiL bought a brand new house from a national house builder that I'm suspicious has little or no insulation in the walls. Currently averaging £17/day on gas for heating alone (mix of wet ufh and rads). Daughter works from home and has two children, one pre school age. She has the thermostats set to 18.5c downstairs and 17.5c upstairs but is struggling to even maintain those numbers. For example, temp in her study/office was just 13c this afternoon. Thanks in advance 👍🏼

Is there no antifreeze in the pipes?

Two hour session tomorrow from 5pm to 7pm.

As I said, likely to be far lower in summer, but we do have a PV diverter to the immersion heater and when it's really hot weather the heat pump cools the floor slab rather than heating it. I'm looking forward to seeing how much (or little) they actually consume.
-
I've only been able to quantify this accurately since the end of September, so early days yet, but utilisation was 84.8% in October and 89.7% in November. To date this month is 91%. Of course, utilisation is likely to be far lower in higher yield/ lower use months.
-
... and the Solar panels too. 22 days of the year to go and yet today we topped our previous best annual yield.
-
And now down to 4.2%

Insulating between bay windows, behind stone mullions?
NSS replied to GlanMenai's topic in Heat Insulation
Multifoil generally arrives as a compressed roll that has to have room to expand to its effective state. If you cram it into uneven gaps will unlikely do so.
