  1. Inside being replastered and outside rerendered, so I'm not bothered about the reveals. Know they don't go for much but even if I get £10 for it it saves me having to cart it to the dump and buys me a few beers. Will see what mood the guys are in tomorrow...
  2. Got the 4 screws on each side, can't find anything on top or bottom. Slightly worried that both the render and plaster will need to come off to get the door out. Cant remember if I told the brickie I wanted to save the door and frame, if I didn't would they just smash the frame out as opposed to take it out nicely
  3. Anyone got any advice for removing an old uPVC door and frame with the view of getting it out in one piece to sell on eBay? Know how the door lifts off the hinges and located 4 screws on each side, but it's rendered on the outside so will that have to come off to get the frame out? here are a couple of pics
  4. I was late last night so I mustn't be explaining things right, let me try again with a diagram What is it: Virgin Media A CAT5e cable Faceplate B My phone Socket/Plug type: BT Socket A RJ45 Plug RJ45 Socket B RJ11 socket So at point B there is no problem, as a cable with a RJ45 socket on one end and RJ11 socket on the other sorts that out. But at point A a cable with 2 plugs wont work, and the cable you linked to Nick is the wrong way round, I need something with a BT plug on one end and a RJ45 socket on the other. I think this LINK will work but it uses a cable with a BT socket and RJ45 socket and then a RJ45 extender connector, I'm just wondering if there is something like what Nick linked to but with a BT plug and RJ45 socket
  5. That part is the easy part Nick Link But the other adapter bit I can't seem to find, found this, but that looks like a BT to RJ45 cable with a RJ45 to RJ45 connector plugged in the end. This thought there would be a neater solution..
  6. I have all my cat5 cable running from the sockets in the house back to a central place and these all terminate in a rj45 plug. now that I've had a look at that video and done some digging I think I need 2 adapters, one that will allow be to plug the rj45 plug into the Virgin media phone socket. And another one to plug my cordless phone into the cat5 socket - although I think I can get a cable with the correct plugs on the end for that one.
  7. Slightly off topic, but when we were doing the cat5e cable runs I assumed that it could take a phone signal, but looking at the connectors they won't fit in a phone socket. I'm sure there is an adaptor to convert the two of them, but can someone tell me what they are called? Is it an RJ11 to RJ45 converter?
  8. I have to brick up the old back door of the house we live in now as the driveway to the new one runs right outside. But house is 1930s solid walled effort, so wondering what brick I should use to brick up the doorway, asthetics aren't important as the house is rendered outside and we will be re-plastering the inside. Should we use concrete blocks on their side, or are aircrete blocks cheaper?
  9. I'd like to see some photos, did you get it polished or just a really good power float
  10. I thought the important thing was to have a grinder like he had that supplies water as well. i the early days of our build I wanted to make my own worktops. I found one like it here
  11. Point 4 was repeated several times so a 80m2 shallow pitch bungalow became a 100m2 shallow pitch bungalow and then the 120m2 modern flat roof and mono pitched roof dwelling on those ebuild links.
  12. Ferdinand Don't bother with that, looks like they were going to be awkward and too be honest I have other things going on and don't have the energy to fight it
  13. Unit is in the corner of the lawn, we are tight for space so didn't want to have an unslighty green lid on the grass, so we have used a man hole cover that holds grass on the top so it's not really noticeable. Pump sits a few metres away on a raised garden beds from where we had to dig down into the slight slope. Some pics here
  14. I have the bio- pure, no thing bad to say about it, although not yet been used in anger! But they were helpful to deal with and were able to suggest alternatives when I didn't want the pump in the ground on top of unit. I have it remotely sited and they helped sort out what I needed to do this.
  15. I have this, a 20 year guarantee from the manufacturer on the materials in which they will pay all costs to make roof good again. But I'm being told by BuildZone that they want a 10 year guarantee on the workmanship. Would any of trades give a 10year guarantee on your workmanship, the roofer gave a 1 yr guarantee already (which is now passed as the roof was on 18 months ago)
  16. Ian Going to nudge you again, and keep nudging you until you have told me you have done it. Have you talked to Hilliard yet about digging a big hole and filling it up with stone. www.tsd.ie
  17. So next small step of getting the Structural Warranty that I paid about £2k has hit a brick wall. The problem seems to be that as the roofers have given a warranty over the material used BuildZone are asking if it included the fitting and then they will exclude the roof from their warranty!!! Has anyone come across anything like this before where the structural warranty provide wants to excluded things on the basis that someone has given a warranty on that part of the build?
  18. Ian Curious if you read the report and chatted to Hilliard yet, anyway to avoid the piles and the hurt to your wallet?
  19. Hi Peter Yes used BuildZone for both warranty and regs, the BCO company the got me to use (I signed up 2 years ago as it's taken so long) was ACT. I employed a project manager to help me with the build so he dealt with them. Recently found out that they subcontracted out most of the site visits to another surveyor who covers the Cambridge area for them. But PM said they were fine to deal with. Main reason for using them was cost of warranty at the time, then if I didn't just their surveyors for BC then would need to pay more for them to take my chosen surveyor report and write a report for the underwriters. ACT were fine, no problem with passive slab, had seen it before and just wanted to check the layer of stone was before normal soil level and not on top so it couldn't slide out when being filled.
  20. So lots of small steps being taking to drag us finally over the finish line and into the house (which to be honest if we had to we could have moved into at the start of the year, but someone wants everything done) But today's small step is a big milestone, completion certificate has been issued. So now chasing BuildZone for my structural warranty, which I need by the end of the month as by bridging loan runs out and I have to remortgage. Also aware that the issue of this certificate starts the clock on my VAT submission and all that entails!
  21. Nick I hate to be the one to break this to you, but if he is delivering your mail, he already knows where you live
  22. Sorry mate - these weren't going to be for general consumption - so can't be bothered trying to learn a new skill to edit and add sound. I know it's prob not that hard to do, but to much on my plate at the moment, sorry
  23. Are you Mods able to rename this thread to Time Lapse of Build and I'll keep added the clips where something happens
