As you have MVHR fitted (or will have), I really don't know hink that 25mm of insulation on the outside will make a difference. Just fit it between the battens, hard against the wall, it will act like a rain screen. OK the condensation point may move a bit, but probably only a few millimetres, and only in very rare weather circumstances. You want a VCL on the inside, masonry is not immune to moisture (if it was then 'damp walls' would not happen in old houses).

The force of gravity, and therefore time, changes depending on altitude and ground density. All the granite in Cornwall makes it 20 years behind the times.

Potential garden room/gym - early stage ideas
SteamyTea replied to Adsibob's topic in New House & Self Build Design
Check the height of a multi-gym machine, or at least get some video of your fingers trapped between the handle and the ceiling. You will need a bit of room between the building and the now illegal to plant trees for annual pruning. I would not worry about damaging them, they are like triffids. -
Welcome. So this is more of a commercial development, rather than a dream home. Many will tell you that improving on the thermal element of building regulations will costs you a lot more money, this does not have to be the case. Your choice of builder, and more importantly, the engineering imagination of your Architect, is what keeps the costs down and can vastly improve performance. Do what the Germans failed to finish off. Come friendly bombs and fall on Slough! It isn't fit for humans now, There isn't grass to graze a cow. Swarm over, Death! Come, bombs and blow to smithereens Those air -conditioned, bright canteens, Tinned fruit, tinned meat, tinned milk, tinned beans, Tinned minds, tinned breath. Mess up the mess they call a town— A house for ninety-seven down And once a week a half a crown For twenty years. And get that man with double chin Who'll always cheat and always win, Who washes his repulsive skin In women's tears: And smash his desk of polished oak And smash his hands so used to stroke And stop his boring dirty joke And make him yell. But spare the bald young clerks who add The profits of the stinking cad; It's not their fault that they are mad, They've tasted Hell. It's not their fault they do not know The birdsong from the radio, It's not their fault they often go To Maidenhead And talk of sport and makes of cars In various bogus-Tudor bars And daren't look up and see the stars But belch instead. In labour-saving homes, with care Their wives frizz out peroxide hair And dry it in synthetic air And paint their nails. Come, friendly bombs and fall on Slough To get it ready for the plough. The cabbages are coming now; The earth exhales.

I am currently working on the detailed statistics i.e. mean power/energy, max power, min power above zero, percentage zero power (base load is not really relevant to me as I have cut out parasitic losses). Shall get the temperature data in as well in time. I have been spurred on by our old mate @Ed Davies writing up about comparisons between his CurrentCost meter and his Smart Meter readings (I have the posher CC logger, so will be interesting to compare). My house is 48m2 in total, mid terrace, 1987 build with simple modifications i.e. extra loft insulation, secondary glazing on the double glazing (except for two opening windows for safety). The heating is all electric storage heaters, but with extra lockout timers to limit the E7 to four hours approximately, water is the same. This means that the heating is done 'last thing' rather than 'first thing'. Though I may change the DHW heating times as I start work much earlier now and extra heating is done unnecessarily. So the overall energy usage is 68 kWh/m2.year, just heating and hot water is 56 kWh/m2.year. That works out as a mean power of 6.4W/m2 for space and water heating.

As I was a bit of a trendsetter over a decade ago when I ditched a fixed line and went 'mobile only' like 30% of households are now, and as you can get 5G for £12/month, why is anyone (except if you live like the mountain men in Deliverance) getting a fixed line and all the infrastructure to shift it around the house? -
Beans are in the microwave (get a commercial one, so much better) then into Mary's Bath. Pasties, and sausage rolls are from the freezer, into the oven (always set at 190°C, regardless of what is cooked, except scones) and then into the cabinet. It is all in the preparation for so that the scummy customers and throw their food onto the floor and tread it into the carpet.

This is quite timely as winter is approaching and I need to sort out my kitchen extraction (never had any and since fitting secondary glazing can't open the window by the hob). I have a simple path from the back of the hob to an outside wall (just down a bit, though a cupboard and out though a wall). So how big is the fan and ducting? Anyone want to post some pictures up?

I was going to look that up, but as it has been changing too much over the year, I could not be bothered. Having said that, I should be able to download the prices, though I did have several weeks when the communication hub was not reporting, and EDF decided that I had used £100s every month.

So it is a year today that I had my smart meter fitted. Here are the readings Total 3256 kWh, Mean 8.9 kWh/day Day 574 kWh, 17.6%, Mean 1.56 kWh/day Night 2682 kWh, 82.4%, Mean 7.33 kWh/day Considering it was a cold start to the year down here, not too bad.

You going to stroke the monkey puzzle?

And you aren't. It is a while since we have had a riotous Friday. Shall have to see what is happening up the gardens later.

You're going to be the twink again tonight. I shall be the bear.
