Shivie Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 Hi, I'm new to this forum and would be grateful if someone has any advice regarding the following. We are currently building a small kitchen/diner extension and I have underfloor heating planned for it. We are tight for space so am thinking of putting the manifold in the pantry cupboard I'm planning on putting in the corner. My question is: Do manifolds give out much heat? I ask because our condenser boiler feels cool to touch when it's on. Can the manifold be adequately boxed in with insulation (but also accessible) that it doesn’t give off heat if its put in the pantry? Thanks
lizzie Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 Mine gives out a fair whack of heat. Pantry not ideal really.
Lesgrandepotato Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 Mines in the wall. Wonder if you can do the same trick? Just a lintel in the blockwork and plaster board either side
Triassic Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 In our previous house ours was in the back of the kitchen sink cupboard. To maximise space I mounted the manifold on the wall before fitting the cupboard, I removed the backboard from the cupboard before fittng.
Nickfromwales Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 It’s not just the obvious heat emitted from the manifold, but also the M25 of pipework that’s in the immediately surrounding floor too. You’ll not just have the heat from the manifold, but also the hottest section of floor in the entire house, all in the confines of the panty. Can it go somewhere else?
Sue B Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 Our manifolds in our last build were in the garage. It was the hottest room in the house.
recoveringbuilder Posted March 15, 2019 Posted March 15, 2019 In our last house our manifold was in a cupboard under the stairs, I used to have a clothes horse in there to dry washing, where we have it now the cats lie on the floor near it as they have discovered the great source of heat!
