Water would have come out as they're wet tested by QC ;)

At least you can wash ?

So the tool marks on the chromed nuts and the fact that one of the small packages is opened is normal too?

(I could have still had a bath! :) )

Snotty email sent!

My email:

"Dear Screwfix,
I needed today urgently a new bar shower valve and a friend pointed me to the one below. Checking stock at Sevenoaks I saw you had one in and ordered it for collection. At the counter the assistant went and got my order. I noticed the box was open and queried this to be told it was probably just where somebody had asked for a look at it in store. As I was checking the box there were other customers so I made a cursory check that the parts were all there, (one small fittings pack was opened and the parts loose), signed for it and left the store. Upon arrival at home and unpacking it it POURED water out, in fact inside the bubble wrap was soaking wet.
Clearly this unit has been previously fitted and then returned to store. Aside from that the last customer was clearly a bit of an animal and there are tool marks on the chromed nuts.
I am really not impressed. Aside from the damage you should not be returning water filled components to stock. Who knows what bugs it might harbour or how long it's been in there!
However...without a working shower I've been forced to fit this as I have two teenagers in the house and two of their friends to stay. I've a slight weep on one fitting but I'll re look at that tomorrow as it's likely me.
I haven't written this email lightly, am a long term customer and have never complained before but this is just to express my overall dissatisfaction with Screwfix today.
Yours sincerely"

Their response:

"Thank you for your email regarding the above order.

I am sorry to learn of the issues you have incurred with the Swirl Thermostatic shower.

Whilst I appreciate your comments, we would not recommend fitting this and we would be happy to offer a replacement or a refund on the product.

Please can you advise what it is you are seeking.

Kind Regards"

Not really looking for anything tbh just as I say expressing my dissatisfaction.

Forward to their CEO and express dissatisfaction over both the experience and their reply. Assume you are leaving the shower in situ?

Can't be ar$ed to take it further. Let's face it the people behind the counter are just there for the job not because they're au fait with trades like in the days of the old hardware stores, specialist plumbing shops etc. Same goes with their customer relations people.

Wring them for some vouchers. Reply that you are looking to be compensated for their incompetence in restocking an item that should have gone into the discount bin and sold as parts missing / unknown returns, as you took an unpaid day off work to complete the job. Send it to the CEO, its only going to cost you 5 mins at the end of the day.
