daiking
Any recommendations? Cheap and cheerful please. Don't really want to have to buy a B&D WM825 or Bosch PWB600. I seem to have acquired a few sawhorses but struggle with them for small jobs.

Longer than I would expect a silverline bench to last... cheap and basic would be ok as long as I can be sure its stable, square and won't bend when you try to clamp something. ProDave
I know it's not what you want, but my B&B Workmate 800 is nearly 30 years old now and still going strong. for larger stuff, a couple of planks between trestles.
Onoff
My 32 year old B&D Workmate is fecked, sitting rusting in the garden. There was a period in my life when DIY fell by the wayside etc and it got neglected. I WISH it wasn't. I reckon it could still be salvaged without too much trouble. (I was thinking of making one from Uni-Strut.....) EDIT: There's ones on Gumtree, "hardly used" for like a tenner, can't go wrong. Like many things they don't seem to make them like they used to. Looks like I'll have to rip through a few scaffold boards. Possession is 9/10s of the law... Vijay
Not the cheapest but a fantastic work bench is the Triton Superjaws. I've never used anything else since I bought one. Very sturdy and just light enough to throw in the boot of my car when I need to
daiking
I managed back then with Stanley plastic sawhorses and some scaffold boards. but the sawhorses are fubared really like anything belonging to the builder. Bagged one of these bad boys now http://www.screwfix.com/p/forge-steel-multifunction-workbench/25421

Wild goose chase to get it for £30 mind after the one I reserved at my local SF vanished into thin air and I had to go to another branch. Cost me 12p to cross the toll bridge, Grrrrrrrrr. Barney12
Rutlands do a couple of B&D clones. They're "fit for purpose". They often have the smaller one on a 2 for £30 deal but its not running at the moment: http://www.rutlands.co.uk/sp+folding-workbench+DK7038 http://www.rutlands.co.uk/sp+woodworking-hand-tools-work-benches-folding-workbenches-dual-height-folding-workbench-rutlands+dk7037 I've bought quite a bit of stuff from Rutlands over the years. Its generally OK and the service is generally good. Just be a little weary of their product reviews as I know for a fact (As I've tested it twice) that they don't publish reviews which contain negativity to the site!
