lizzie Posted May 30, 2018 Share Posted May 30, 2018 Looking at options for blinds.......internal. Has anyone fitted blinds to their Internorm sliders? I’m getting quotes but I’m not getting the look I want which is mounted inside the frame not outside the frame sitting on the wall above. The problem seems to be the very narrow gap that is between fixed window and slder as it moves across so needs something very slim to fit in. The perfect fit type look is what I am after but those blinds not suitable for use with internorm as they dont have a gasket to fix the workings into, they are really designed to be fiitted into upvc not internorm glued in glass. I didnt like the integrated option from Internorm but I am beginning to wish I had gone for it as it gives the sleek look I want......too late now. Any suggestions? If that is the case I have looked and not been able to find any sort of blinds that are slim enough. Our lift slide doors have 17mm beads and the slimmest plisse blinds I could find were 20mm. We have the 20mm plisse blinds in our porch because we only have double glazing in there and they fit well. Yes they are exactly what I want and you have hit the nail on the head I cannot find anything slim enough to fit the bead on the fixed part of the door. MirandaPoth Posted May 31, 2018 Share Posted May 31, 2018 We're getting an Internorm big slider in our main open-plan living room. Some of the windows in the room are too big for the Internorm integrated blinds so we're probably going to have separate blinds on all of them (so that they match). The problem we ran into was that normal roller etc blinds don't go more than about 2m wide and our slider is 5.3m total, which means I want two blinds about 2.65m wide each. We found that Luxaflex's Duette blinds can cope with this width and look really nice. They are about 25mm wide so the plan is to fit that extra-strong type of plasterboard above the windows and leave the battens off so that the blinds can disappear into the gap when they're open and when they're closed they will still be 'inside' the window reveal. We'll reinforce with aluminium or something if it looks like it needs it. It won't look as nice as having fully integrated blinds or blinds fitted into the inside of the window frames like in @PeterStarck's picture but we think it will look OK. Sadly I am not, we explored that look and it would have worked (I have the special heavy duty plasterboard everywhere anyway) but what stopped us on that idea is our internal wall reveal depth is 70 and that is exactly the amount that the handle on the window juts out so we have not got enough depth to cover handle with blind hence only option I am being offered is surface mounted on the wall over the window. We're lucky in that our reveal is 160mm which is just enough to allow us to have vertical blinds where we have the lift slide door. We haven't quite decided our reveal depths yet so will make sure we take this into consideration. I remember when fitting blinds to our current house I completely forgot about the handles (doh). That window is floor to ceiling height at 2.4m? For some windows I only have approx 40mm of window frame at the top and ideally I don't want the blinds hanging below that when fully 'up' (preference is to have the blinds within the window reveal). Trw144 Posted May 31, 2018 Share Posted May 31, 2018 (edited) @Pete Yes, it is - I have some led strip lights to go in the front top shadow gap - it’s one of my remaining jobs when I get some time (and inclination). lizzie Posted June 11, 2018 Author Share Posted June 11, 2018 (edited) Ok I have heard back now and technically it is possible to fit blinds inside the window frame reveal of my internorm sliders. This works into the fixed pane behind the sliders less than 25mm gap......it can be done with pleated blinds, floating so they can cover any or all of the window at any point they dont have to stack at the top or bottom. The blind harware is very slim and is bonded to the glass (removable if required in the future).The bonding is done by a specialist company and comes with a 10 year guarantee. The company who can do it are part of hunter douglas group (who also own luxaflex apparently). It is thomas sanderson who tag themselves as conservatory blinds but they do a whole lot more than that. Not cheap as you might imagine but it is a workable solution. The only drawback is they have a max width of 1.4m so they couldnt do my biggest slider.
