Beam on the floor on two wooden bearers Two slings in the correct (balanced) position connect pulleys (chain brake and lock) Bring in scaffold tower: bottom transom missing raise beam one transom at a time remove transoms as you go up and then replace transoms underneath the as you go up brace assembly carefully during lift twist assembly until beam is lined up place beam You got me fizzing now @Alexphd1 If you wonder why I keep coming back to BH, this thread will do... just saved me £500 (per beam) i.e £1000. (minus the nett cost of some bits of kwikstage)
Declan52
If you have some blank round bracing pipe you can use them instead of transoms and some couplers you can make a bay as wide or narrow as you like.

Declan52
I used more or less the same method for my 3.2m concrete heads. Setup a bay in the middle of the opening. Clamped a ledger across in the middle to attach the pulley block to. Used the pulley block and lifted the head up as much as the slack on the chain would allow. Set the head down across 2 planks then moved the pulley block up and repeated till I had the head up. Took maybe 30mins work but was a safe and controlled lift. Just make sure whatever chain/sling is rated for the weight plus all your shackles are in good condition.

Alexphd1
I think if I had more than 1 beam to lift I would seriously look at hiring a genie lift again for a week. Approx £120 Inc vat. Cracking bits of kit. Edited March 4, 2018 by Alexphd1

I’ve to 48ft at single lift plus some extras such as 2 board steps and 2 board transoms..! I will need a fair amount but I haven’t even started digging yet, so not something I really want to spend out on yet.

ToughButterCup
Thanks @Alexphd1; here as a direct result of your post earlier is my little mobile work platform. Thanks very much indeed. I cannot tell you how much difference having a mobile work platform makes to our work schedule, and my confidence in getting the job done. It is already clear that having mobile work platforms will have a significant impact on the build. I am going to build four. Thank you.
