Bosi Posted April 9 Posted April 9 Hi everyone, I’m looking for an MCS-certified electrician or solar installer to help me with a battery retrofit for my existing solar system here in LS11. I am planning to add a Fogstar Energy ECO 16.1kWh battery. I would like the installer to supply the battery at the 0% VAT rate as part of a "supply and fit" contract. I already have a used Solis inverter which I will provide for the installation. I’m happy to handle some of the cable prep/routing beforehand to save time, but I need a professional to handle the high-current connections and provide the necessary safety certifications. If you’re a local installer or can recommend someone reliable who is comfortable working with customer-supplied inverters, please get in touch with a rough quote or to arrange a quick look at the site. Thanks!
Mr Punter Posted April 10 Posted April 10 There will be loads of solar install firms who work near you. Get 3 quotes and pick one. It may be that they will not fit used kit or have wiring by others but you can ask. 1
Bramco Posted April 10 Posted April 10 I tried to do something similar with our install but no one locally was interested in certifying things if they didn't do the full install. Good luck - and if you find someone, I'd be interested in getting in touch with them - we're south Notts, so not that far away.
Nickfromwales Posted April 10 Posted April 10 It’s all about blame / risk / return visits and arguing over who’s part of the install or kit is to blame. Good luck, but I’d walk away from that job every day of the week.
Alan Ambrose Posted April 10 Posted April 10 Maybe there’s scope for the physical panel install - that’s probably 2/3rds of the work.
Dave Jones Posted April 11 Posted April 11 they wont touch it. its a closed con shop the MCS system. They will want to have done all the work and charged you 5x the market rates.

Think you either have to expect the following 1. MCS uplift in prices for everything then a vat reduction - overall expensive cost. 2. Buy it all yourself, pay the vat, either install yourself or get your local electrical guy to do it. Lower cost overall. I would leave original install untouched. Do the battery AC coupled then it's a stand alone job no scary PV involved for you electrician.

Thanks! Does this have a FIT agreement on it?
