Hi All,

getting around to externally sealing the Nudura block to the footings.

Looking for help to find a suitable waterproof primer and membrane?

Cant seem to find many!

Cheers

I feel like peel & stick membranes for ICF are a USA building code thing.

Some of us here used Triton TT Vapour Membrane Paint. Seems hard to find now. @Russell griffiths

Good discussion here:

@WiltshireLink, I think this is the new name for Triton TT Vapour Membrane paint.

https://wykamol.com/products/technoseal-dpm

If you look at the product date sheet it has Triton name address on the bottom of the sheet.

I bought my tubs of Triton TT from The Preservation Shop. They carry Technoseal, tub is the same form factor.

I think I have 1 unopened 5L tub of Triton TT left, but it is 3 years old.  You are welcome to it if you are happy to collect. We are in Suffolk. Don’t think 5L will get you much coverage.

I have an unopened 20l tub of TT spare, well 2 x actually but will keep 1 x in stock. Damn useful stuff. PM me if you're interested. I created a mortar fillet between the foundation and ICF then coated it with TT, fibre tape on the joints then used a cavity membrane over the top to direct into a french drain.

Thanks so much!

Did you use a peel and stick membrane as well?

I used Thermohouse for my ICF blocks, they are Irish based. According to their technical specs, there is no additional sealing needed at the slab/wall junction. I have an insulated raft and the ICF block overhangs by 9mm. The walls are rendered and there is stop bead along the bottom edge. The EPS upstand of the insulated foundation is rendered with EWI Mosaic Render (EWI-050). Here is a picture.

We used the Triton TT as a DPC on the EPS of all the rough openings of the doors and windows. Thermohouse have specific ‘check reveal’ blocks for window and door openings.

There was a discussion about water ingress at the wall/foundation junction in this thread.

My post in that thread.

I assumed the shear weight of concrete in the wall helps slow the water ingress? On my build the ICF overhangs the insulated raft by 9mm, this is before the 10mm of render. The DPM laps over the top of the foundation insulation. Not had the rendering done yet, but assume there is a drip edge. They used PU foam when putting the blocks down, which I know is not water resistant. Perhaps I should use some TT Vapour Membrane paint along this edge. The good thing about EPS is that the water it absorbs, easily evaporates away, this is what makes it preferable to XPS. I don’t doubt that some water will ingress at this junction, but will it be substantial enough over the long term to cause issues?

Response was not to worry. Three years later house seems okay, no evidence of water ingress at this junction. Still have Air Test to come.

Not quite the same, we did a basement with icf. The tanking was peel and stick Koster membrane. No primer on the EPS, straight on.

I have used Newton Hydrobond Self Adhesive membrane on my ICF build.

https://www.newtonwaterproofing.co.uk/products-systems/products/external-waterproofing-and-drainage-membranes/post-applied-self-adhesive-waterproofing-membrane/

I did about 50cm of the lower wall, over the join of the footings and below ground.  This was because of different ground levels and having 2 level entry thresholds.
One wall is rendered and they rendered over the top of it ok.
